I'm definetly trading in my 2008 Civic EX-L coupe for an SX Koup 2.4 6 speed. The Kia offers so much more than the Honda does, and I'm a hardcore Honda fanatic. I've owned 12 Hondas. I think the Koup is the best car in it's class hands down. Stop being surprised Kia can make a good car now. They've been doing it for a few years.
Well I test drove the 2.0L and the 2.4L yesterday. First I sat in it. Every inch of the interior felt solid, not like it would break. A butt load of plastic, but not cheap plastic, cup holders EVERYWHERE, bluetooth is standard. Didn't feel it with the 2.0, but the 2.4 is a pocket rocket. Felt firm and pressed hard against the road which is what you want in a sports car..It handles great and the dealership told me there's several upgrades to add horse power, covered by the warranty! :D
80 people are 8th gen honda civic owners just like me.but still i'm gonna thumbs up this video cause i like the Kia Forte koup.its not a bad car at all.the outside is very stylish.
I drive a 06 Acura TL. I test drove this for my girlfriend and I gotta say, this is a great little car. I don't know why insideline disses the interior, it is much nicer than the civics and corollas, and isnt boring to drive and look at like both of those. Kia and Hyundai have stepped up really quick, and now have some really impressive reliable cars such as the Genesis Coupe, Genesis Sedan, 2011 Hyundai Tucson and the list goes on....
I bought a Forte SX Hatchback and I love it. It doesn't have the "In your face" look of the Koup, but its grown on me. Its zippy, easy to park, and versatile. Honestly, what more do you really need?
Sloppy Manual? Hmmmm, unless this car comes with a dual clutch manumatic, ANY manual tranny will be a huge upgrade. I'm assuming he said "sloppy" because he's not very good at driving manual. I've driven cars with bad synchros and I would still prefer them to any automatic.
Not necessarily. If you live in an area that has a lot of stop and go traffic such as Los Angeles; an automatic transmission will be a major blessing for commuters on the many freeways that criss-cross L.A.
@@michaellovely6601 I've had commutes with bad traffic (17 miles takes 1.5 hours) and I'd still take the manual. This is opinion of course and there is definitely no right or wrong answer just preference.
Thanks for the comments. If you want to tell us more about what kind of videos you want, check out our short Inside Line Video Survey (see details in description to right).
Have you driven the SX? Probably not, the transmission is not sloppy at all! The clutch takes a little getting used to but thats it. It releases a little low.
I own a Forte Koup. Such a beastly car. It looks so fresh, not just like a flat Honda Civic. I love the rims, and mine is also red! My friends keep on asking me, what is that car? When I tell them its a Kia, their mouth drops. :)
My parents owed a civic si and it was a great car, I loved it. With that being said, I just bought a Forte Koup SX. Yes the Koup has less hp than the si but it has more torque. Car and Driver tested the 6 speed SX at 0-60 at 7.1 sec which is right there with the si. Both cars are great in my opinion but I liked the looks of the Koup better and It only cost me $18,000 rather than $24,000 for the si. For $6,000 I could put a turbo on it if I wanted to.
@SeadGBosnia The cars are sorted into classes by their PRICE and SIZE, not their HP. There aren't 2 compact car classes that further divide the cars by horsepower. The Forte, Elantra, Civic, Cruze, Mazda 3, Jetta/Golf, and Scion tC are all cross shopped due to the fact they're all similar in price.
Guess you should check again. Civic SI STARTS at 22 grand and has 2.0 liter 197hp engine and 3 year warranty. if you want bluetooth xm radio etc (you know all the shit the Kia Forte Koup comes with stock), it's around 25 grand. Forte Koup SX starts at 17,695$ and has a 2.4L engine 173 hp, and comes with bluetooth and sat radio, plus a 10 year warranty. I wasn't even comparing it to the SI anyways since it's 7 grand more. I was comparing it to the Civic EX (same price range as Forte Koup).
@diazspeed1 I think Kia started in the US in 1994. I talked to many people with "old" Kias and they have not had any problems with them. I was doing my research before I bought mine. I bought the Koup and LOVE it. One of their new designers was previously at Audi. I think they're really coming up in rank, by producing better cars than they used to.
oh yeah i understand that part actually, cuz i say the same about the Scion tC vs Si, but in this area, the tC would be better than both the Koup and Si. have you seen the Koups compression ratio? not suitable for boost, i see about 250-290hp boosted tops with that kind of comp ratio for stock internals, and the tC has seen up to 400hp. and the tC 0-60 times are similar across the board with Koup and Si as well as 1/4mile times. and as you said 5K less than an Si.
@2fast4all We're talking about a $3k price difference between both cars. For that kind of money what bolt-ons were you considering that would allow the Koup to match an Si around the track? i/h/e's will probably not make up the 0.3 second lead the si has on the koup in the 0-60, and will definitely be insufficient to beat the Si in the 1/4 mile.
@phtmexplo The civic you're talking about is only Si trim, such a sports-tuned. In terms of horsepower, honda Accord uses 2.4L I4 engine which makes about 'only' around 180hp. This car might be placed between normal Civic and Si... or compared to Scion tC which also uses 2.4L engine.
@WrenKim I only know that u can buy a "civic type R" straight at a Honda dealer so its not sports-tuned, its Honda-tuned straight from factory. The Accord Euro-R was powered by the K20A 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine with 220 horsepower straight from factory also ...
I think that saying it is a copy or not depends on the market. If the Forte was launch first than the Civic people will say Honda copy the Forte it all depends whether the can was first launch or not in my opinion and the Forte is a sharp looking car in its price range.
Wow, those the headline to this video has set a lot of people off. I have driven both. The Civic is much more refined in the driving department. The 2 tier dash thing, your either gonna love it or hate it. I love the look of the Civic, but I wonder what Honda could do with a refresh. The Forte drives very good but is missing Honda's years of refinement. The Forte's interior is nice. A huge step up in Kia's department. All the bells and whistles are there. (blue tooth, good sound system.)
@MrBigcraig531 u do know this is against the regular civic right?? The SX Koup is cheaper than an EX Civic Coupe and has 33 more horsepower. The SI is a completely different class.
Well its more of a Civic from the front, Lights from an Accord/AcuraTSX, back from Mitsubishi EvoX and side from Alpha Romeo. When will Korea start making their own models?
You shouldn't talk as if you have an opinion when you're judgment is biased. This is definitely a threat to the civic. The model over all is a winner, and will only improve over time and come with more trim offerings in newer models. This is just Kia's test sales run for this model, and so far its raising a lot of eyebrows and nearly every owner has nothing to say but good things about it. I've been looking for a sporty affordable coupe with manual auto... and I think this just might be it!
i tried this car, didnt really like it for some reason lol. I mean it was good. But then i tested the 2010 honda civic coupe, and it was sooooo much better. so much more fun to drive and the handling was just superb.
I agree the Civic never caught my eye, I liked the RSX when they changed the body style in 05. I wasn't a fan of the bubbly headlights and taillights in the previous model.
@phtmexplo well if you know that much about it you must also know that kia has a 1.9L 276 hp car too, right? granted it's the optima SX, however you did not specify which kia you were talking about you just said "Kia". The base model optima fits the 2.4L 173hp description, the SX does not. I guess the best thing to do would be to compare similar cars?
@mnetrucker the Forte Koup SX has a base price of about 18k. The Civic SI has a base price of about 22k. They are on two completely different levels price-wise, it doesnt make much sense for them to be compared. It should be compared to like the Civic Coupe LX, as it is the same price...
The Forte Koup is much better looking than the Civic Coupe. Way better. I've compared them both up close and personal side by side. I've driven many competitors in the past few weeks too. The Koup really is just better all around. The seats are very supportive and well sculpted. The steering feel is amazing and braking power is excellent. The EX has the smaller 2.0, so go for the 2.4 in the SX if you can. You can get this car fully loaded for just under $22,500. Eat your heart out Civic.
my 5 speed seems to do the same, its pretty strange, but I guess it doesn't have any bearing on performance or reliability or anything, just a weird little thing it does
Honda has done well with the Civic and rightly so, however Kia has leaped ahead with quality, design and features. Bringing Audi design legend Peter Schreyer on board as Kia's chief design officer is paying off!
The Good- The cloth seats, I mean "WOW" When you sit in this cars seats, you feel locked in. Even after 3 hours on the road it still feels comfortable and natural. Handling, the car is a joy to drive. The steering has a good feel and heft. On a hard turn the koup hugs the road.. I still like it after 6 months. This car is no racer, it just looks like one. A Si would crush the EX I have and the SX. I say Test drive The Civic's, Lancers and Mazda's along the the Forte and decide for yourself.
@phtmexplo I think what he meant by "Civic killer" is as a complete car not a drag racer. The Civic manages 139 pound-feet at 6100 rpm which means it's gutless at any speed lower than that. The Kia has 168 pound-feet at a lot lower 4000 RPM, which makes for more usable power band. That's the reason for the 2.4 and that's the reason Honda use's a 2.4 in the Accord and not the 2.0.
they took the bottom lip of an EVO grill, the lights from a prius and the front lights are the same as the civic. The civic front bumper is the same but taller. the trunk looks like a Volt. o0
@FoxRS I have a light that comes on when I'm driving for best fuel efficiency , I have the 2.4 l Koup. I average 30mpg's at the most in perfect conditions on the hwy I've gotten 37 mpg..... no lie. Yes, I was pretty shocked. I LOVE my Forte Koup.
@keelgirl1 i m thinking about buying kia koup but people tell me a lot of bad thinks about this car . and i don't like mazda 3 new looks. so anyway kia is giving me warrenty for 5 years bumper to bumper no need to worry. what u think?
@mexicanamerican21 not really, it can be quite sluggish if you don't shift right. When you are trying to get up and go it feels like it slips sometimes.
AYAYAYAYAY!! you are correct! driving a honda coupe is gonna be expensive for you're car insurance! Kia koup is more cheaper in insurance because it is not an eye catcher for thieves.
@unresolved777 even then, I don't see why they couldn't give the regular civic a bit more power. I was deciding between the SX Koup and EX Civic Coupe and ended up going for the kia solely due to the power, I live in Southern California where most roads have speed limits of 50MPH, so I needed the extra grunt. And the Si was a bit out of budget for me
the reason they say that it's better is not because it actually is, but they're looking at the value of each car. the forte is similar to the civic, but the kia is a bit cheaper and the warranty can't be beat
Okay, I've owned a Forte Koup EX for about 6 months and this is what I can tell you about this car. The Bad- The 4 speed auto really kneecaps the 156 horses, don't get me wrong this car can move, but you can feel the engine going "Ummm...why aren't we going faster?" I am not the racer type so it really doesnt matter to me. Cheap plastic on doors- It looks nice, works well on the dash, but doesn't look good after the seat belt hits it reapeatedly.... can be buffed out, but why do I have to?
This review puts the impressive numbers it put down in the track video into perspective for the idiots calling it slow. Nice car. Why no comment on the glowing speaker covers?
i said the same thing, why is it that the Koup, with more hp, and alot less weight is slower than a tC with both 5 speed and 4 speed auto. my guess is the tC's tuning, VVT-i is more advanced than CVVT.
@tytadevosyan The point is the fact they were comparing a base model Civic with 140hp to a Koup SX with 173hp, so it's only appropriate for people to compare a Civic Si to the Koup SX now.
@unresolved777 yea that's true, although i might not install the angel eyes because it requires taking apart the stock headlights. I think i'm probably gonna screw it up. I guess everyone wants their car to be unique, I'm sure there's cars with similar mods, but you could probably change the logos or do something to give it your own personal touch. For some reason, most of the Koups I see are the EX trim, not the SX. Personally I think the $1K extra is worth it for all the extra stuff
ilike it. i saw one for the first time on the road today and made me ask myself WHAT IS THAT!!! it definitely got a second look. id buy one. if i had any money
that was the theta Engine you speak of, the Theta II is only developed by hyundai now and is no longer a chrysler and mitsu engine, the theta II has been reworked and will now come in GDI form for 2011 on hyundai vehicles. This Theta II is one of hyundai's best Engines and is very reliable too. The Mitsubishi Evo uses the Theta I block engine with a different head and The genesis Coupe Has the Theta II block but built for turbo
@phtmexplo actually being the fact it uses the theta 4 series engine its adaptable to the genesis coupe's aftermarket spectrum they can be fitted with the same turbo found in the genesis 2.0t and can even house the big mighty evo x turbo which that engine based off the theta 4 the forte can handle roughly 600hp from what i have seen some put out and thats without a high boost turbo so basically this car is koreas civic and this car is using the non turbo genesis 2.0t engine
@FSPRofLStomP as if there's anything wrong with that. The 2.5L in the Mazda 3 makes 167 hp and even the 2.5 5-cyl in the jetta makes 170 HP. its on the higher end of its class. And if you're trying to compare it to a Civic Si, don't bother. This competes with the regular civic. A top line Koup SX with manual goes for roughly 19K which is more than 1K less than the cheapest Civic EX.
They're talking about the price vs the specs. For about 5k less you can get something very close to the Si. Hell, just add the turbo and the summer tires and you'll be just about on par with the Si and it will STILL cost less.
@techdude6693 the koup is priced in between a civic ex (around 19k CAD) and an Si (26k CAD) civic and that is exactly what it is...it is better equipped and faster than a civic ex but not as good as an Si. Equipment might be similar to the Si but the Si out performs the Koup by quite a bit. Now if you go with the SX Luxury which is actually quite close to the Si in features...then you are at the same price point ($26k CAD) in which case it is much better to go and get an Si.
how can you say the manual transmission is sloppy? You didn't even test it. Car and Driver didnt mind the 6 speed manual and they managed 7.1 sec 0-60. Id be curious to see Inside Line tests a manual car.
the 2009-present Kia Forte/ Kia Cerato/ Kia Cerato Forte (Singapore)/ Naza Forte (Malaysia) is assembled in China: Jiangsu Kazakhstan: Ust-Kamenogorsk South Korea: Hwaseong, Gyeonggi
I own this car, stock the 0-100km/h (which is slightly more than 60 mph) time is less than 6.5 seconds, I've tested. If you can't get that A: Don't call the manual "sloppy". and B: Put in a better driver.

@mexicanamerican21
I can't help but wonder if they meant that Kia's manual transmissions are sloppy?
i said the same thing, why is it that the Koup, with more hp, and alot less weight is slower than a tC with both 5 speed and 4 speed auto. my guess is the tC's tuning, VVT-i is more advanced than CVVT.
@tytadevosyan The point is the fact they were comparing a base model Civic with 140hp to a Koup SX with 173hp, so it's only appropriate for people to compare a Civic Si to the Koup SX now.
68.5 mph for a $20,000 car is extremely well, put some good summer tires and it might reach close to 70...I like it!
Personally I think the $1K extra is worth it for all the extra stuff
ilike it. i saw one for the first time on the road today and made me ask myself WHAT IS THAT!!! it definitely got a second look. id buy one. if i had any money
what have you against a manual transmission? are you ....?
that was the theta Engine you speak of, the Theta II is only developed by hyundai now and is no longer a chrysler and mitsu engine, the theta II has been reworked and will now come in GDI form for 2011 on hyundai vehicles.
@azjen i dont understand the "sloppy manual" thing either... i own an si and it shifts smoother than any car ive ever owned
@MrMsavard1 I've heard a lot of people saying that about Honda. I'm not much into them but how is Honda losing their Touch?
Koreans are making a charge at the world in the automotive industry.
Kia Forte, Forte Koup and Hyundai Genesis Coupe = Pure Awesomeness
Does this one have the optional
Push button start? Or is it only for the 4door? Pls help..
Kia's first genuinely cool car imo. I think there's going to be a ton of these on the streets with wings in the back and neon hanging from its belly.
My brother has the 2.4 it’s a really fun little car actually
does this have an inbuilt gps? like what are the features of this car?
Drive one before you take their word for it. It is not sloppy at all, like I said before the clutch just takes a little getting used to.
I miss my civic such a good reliable and good looking car!
They're talking about the price vs the specs. For about 5k less you can get something very close to the Si. Hell, just add the turbo and the summer tires and you'll be just about on par with the Si and it will STILL cost less.
@d1gps15 What? I'm having a hard time understanding what it is you are trying to tell me. Are you saying Kia makes a car that looks like a Civic?
@buganwille you realize 197hp isn't what you'll dyno at right? probably somewhere around 160 at the wheels.
@dasspr ...isn't that what a torquless Si does?
@techdude6693 the koup is priced in between a civic ex (around 19k CAD) and an Si (26k CAD) civic and that is exactly what it is...it is better equipped and faster than a civic ex but not as good as an Si. Equipment might be similar to the Si but the Si out performs the Koup by quite a bit. Now if you go with the SX Luxury which is actually quite close to the Si in features...then you are at the same price point ($26k CAD) in which case it is much better to go and get an Si.
whatever you civic fanboys are saying, this car is still great.. I bought a 2011 EX AT with sunroof.. I love every part of it!
@jdmdcmn yea, except this isn't a Civic Si competitor, it goes against the regular civic.
how can you say the manual transmission is sloppy? You didn't even test it. Car and Driver didnt mind the 6 speed manual and they managed 7.1 sec 0-60. Id be curious to see Inside Line tests a manual car.
@noktole I test drove a Mazda 3 S as well as the Forte Koup SX, and the Koup performed similarly if not better.
@zorkor are u sure nothing can kill civic?
Since when was manual transmission sloppy?
the 2009-present Kia Forte/ Kia Cerato/ Kia Cerato Forte (Singapore)/
Naza Forte (Malaysia) is assembled in
China: Jiangsu
Kazakhstan: Ust-Kamenogorsk
South Korea: Hwaseong, Gyeonggi
I own this car, stock the 0-100km/h (which is slightly more than 60 mph) time is less than 6.5 seconds, I've tested. If you can't get that A: Don't call the manual "sloppy". and B: Put in a better driver.
this car will never be better than an Civic Coupe SI / Type R.
KIA 2.4L 173hp
Honda 2.0-Liter 197-hp
