- If my camera work didn't ruin it for you, and you appreciated me uploading it, contribute (if you can spare) a buck or two. I make no money from views, all add revenue goes to the acts. I wonder who does get the money though. The artist or the record companies? The artist owns the 'author' rights and typically the record company owns the 'mechanical recording' rights. But they didn't record it... I did.

Dave hired such an iconic band of musicians. Incredible
Back when a gig was more than just a gig. It was a proper show and more than anything else, FUN.
Yes!!!
DLR was one of those bands I saw numerous times, the shows never disappointed!
And more than that, lol... live was really LIVE 😂😂😂😂😂😂
LOL
This is why the 80s were the best for shows! You can keep your giant screens and pyro, I just want to see really great musicians and the best frontman ever doing their thing. I was fortunate enough to see this show and Eat em & Smile at Nassau Colloseum, and they were the best shows I ever saw. So over the top it was just insane.
You from Long Island too? Wish I woulda seen it
I seen the show at Ritchfield Coliseum, basically Cleveland, Ohio. I was just out of highschool and was one of the BEST shows and BEST time of my life. The 80's and this line up was what rock and roll was all about.
I went to a lot of huge shows in the late 70s and all of the 80s, and believe me, they had their share of pyro and over the top stage props back then, too. They didn't have the big screen then, but they did most everything else.
Eat ‘Em & Smile was my first concert.Rochester War Memorial.Tesla opened
Look at the variety of musical stylings Dave and the band incorporate so beautifully into this epic show! Unprecedented and spectacular!!!!!
I saw DLR on the Skyscraper tour at Wembley Arena in 88. It was absolutely stunning. The crowd went nuts from start to finish. Dave's face at the end said it all 👏👏👏
I was there also! Roth on a surfboard above the audience's head. Amazing gig! I was lucky enough to be a few feet from the stage to see all the action
I saw DLRs EEAS and SS concerts in '86 and '88. There will never be another frontman as great as Roth in his prime!!!
From ‘77 to ‘88 the guy was untouchable!
Maybe 77 to 80, after that it was all missed lyrics and karate kicks.
@@daves4645 he was still probably the best act of the 80's though.
@@daves4645 that’s DLR for ya though man. The best frontman of the 80’s without a doubt.
@@nic8577ahahhah no.
@@giorgioandreabaldisserri3811 who is?
Damn I wish this was a better recording...I seen them on this tour it was great
David Lee Roth is a great frontman & performer 💕
My fave era of Vai...Skyscraper album and tour are epic
2023 I'm just plugged into this joint and it is Fired dUp !!!
Big Thanks for your Postings !!!!
Haha, I was at this gig with my pregnant girlfriend. She went into pre mature labor after the show. Luckily, everything worked out and our son was born in July healthy, and dancing to DLR
I think Poison opened the show. They were okay. Lots of energy
That is one of the best ultimate Diamond Dave stories ever! Love it!
Holy cow I forgot how good Steve was he’s on fire 🔥
I remembered seeing this tour in Sydney, Australia in '88 and I'll never forget that surfboard 😂 - what a show!
Nice seeing a show the way it is suppose to be seen....No cellphones back then just pure rock and roll and having a great time...I miss those days, Half the time you can't even see the stage these days because of the phones sticking in the air.
Thank Christ someone had a recording device...imagine no record of a DLR show
I saw this tour in Columbia, SC back in 1987. Poison was the opening band. I wish we had cell phones back then. Imagine having dozens of hi def videos of all the great bands from that era. Lots of fun times back then. I managed to get a still camera in, but security spotted it during the show and took the film from me. No pictures lol.
The irony of your comment
@@Dman425 How? There isn't a sea of iZombies staring at their All Holy devices and breaking up the energy feedback loop that used to exist between band and audience.
@@ROOKTABULA I agree that it is nice to not have a concert recorded by everyone. But, if someone didn’t record these concerts, we wouldn’t have them in the first place. It was a different time. Recorders(as you probably know) were huge and expensive. Not everyone had them like they do now
Excellent: time machine back to a happy time. Thanks 👍😊
Dave’s singing on On Fire is exceptional. Just like the old days. And Steve’s solo. Yeah baby! 😁
Steve’s solo in on fire sucked
We need a Blu-ray of this show. EEAS and Skyscraper were masterpieces. Dave expressed himself 100 percent with Vai : they made crazy-rock. And Eddie expressed himself 100 percent with Sammy. They made pure-hard-rock. It was the best of both worlds.
Best of Both Worlds........I see 👀what you did there
If Dave didn't exist someone would have to invent him and I for one am truly grateful for the entertainment his given me over the years Dave is truly one of a kind and the world is better place for having had him. I salute you Dave 🙋
I saw this show in Lexington Kentucky and Poison was the opener! I saw the Eat em and Smile tour in 86 in Knoxville Tennessee! Both kickass shows!!!
Thank you for the memories thank you for loading this on RUclips
Saw Roth At London's Wembley Arena in the UK that year in 1988 during his Skyscraper tour incredible show I must say as the atmosphere was electric .. 🇬🇧 🏴
33:34 - Steve's cue for a new guitar is epic!
Lighters...... the good ol days! Thanks for posting
The absolute best show i ever saw. Amazing 32 yrs later , still the greatest show I ever saw!
Aint talking saved the show !!
Saw this tour in Seattle. Poison was supposed to open but one of their members got hurt falling off stage in Spokane so they were a no show, which was fine with me. DLR profusely apologized and added a couple extra songs to the set list (so he said anyway at the time). Hella fantastic show. Gregg Bissonette is a beast.
tell me about it man. i was also at this show in the 15th row! Great fucking concert. DLR has something to prove after leaving Van Halen. Both DLR & VH concerts on the two tours after the breakup were fucking amazing
I’m sorry if this is the best show you’ve ever seen. I wish DLR had taken the show more seriously and did the lyrics better.
I saw this tour in LA when I was in 5th grade. Also the best show I've ever seen.
These were great shows,
This is pure gold! Thank you for uploading it.
I was at this show!! To this day it’s one of the loudest shows I’ve ever been to. Man it was loud!!! It was awesome though.
Best show I ever saw. Still is!
I saw this tour in Peoria Illinois....Faster Pussycat opened for them. Amazing show.
This is just immense. Thank you for uploading it.
Dave was the most explosive singer in Rock n Roll.
All i remember at this concert was the dude next to me screaming out "Ice cream man" for the entire show.
I saw them on the tour and I'm pretty sure they opened up with "ain't talking about love".
Poison opened.
Both were good live!
The fact that Dave closed out with Jump really shows how much class and love for us fans he has. Reading Ted's excellent autobiography and other VH history stuff, most of us VH fans knew Dave wasn't really on board with the keyboard direction off the start. But the fact that he took hold of the song, got an amazing line up, and they closed an awesome set with it really says a lot of great things about the Diamond Dave we all love. He could have closed with Yankee Rose, a number of things that were his. Instead he and the amazing band delivered one heck of a performance on a song he came full circle on. No matter how you slice it, ya gotta love the man. There are just some people that there will always only be one of, that no one can touch. Elvis, Billy Idol, Diamond Dave. They will always live as icons in rock history. And deserve to.
He left Van Halen because Jump was the final nail in the coffin. The fact that he closed his show with a song he hated, really says a lot about the fact that he didn’t have anything on his own, and he was trying to hold on to his Van Halen coattails. The rest of his career after VH speaks for itself….
Trying to figure out the logic here. 1. We're on a DLR page. 2. It's a pretty darn good concert. 3. Dave had quite a few albums that most metalheads, mtv, the 80s & 90s rock scene, and a lot of VH fans thought were pretty good. Oh, and sold pretty well. Followed by really successful tours, with more albums with more amazing musicians. Which brings us back to number 1. We're on a DLR page. Oh, yeah. 4. Why did you click on this to get here? 5. Why did you choose to comment? 6. Are you trying to start a I hate Dave so I'm going to post circular logic posts club? and probably most importantly, 7. You obviously didn't read of the VH biography, history, Crazy From The Heat, Ted T autob. books. But thanks for playing. Most of us VH fans are pretty chill, so we'll still let you hang. As long as you don't keep saying dumb$!##. Then, well, you're on your own skippy. Get on the bus Waldo! @@kwmproperty7379
With the irony being that Skyscraper is a keyboard heavy album.
He always closed with Jump throughout his solo career
Wow, this is great. Thanks for uploading
true show man seen him 4 times 3 with vh then this met im 2 times in person very honest man!
Awesome! Thx for posting brother 🤟🙏🏼
Would LOVE to see this in HD!
Thank you for posting this!!!
Old band mate, Brett Tuggle ( RIP ), Played keys and back vocals for DLR for 3 tours.
saw them for this tour in Dayton, OH and it was a blast :) good memories and tunes, thanks for sharing
Did you happen to see VH 1984 in Dayton, when poor Autograph were pelted by the audience until they left stage ? That was Rough. I like Autograph, and they were Dave's friends.
I saw DLR on the Skyscraper tour in Europe, and this band definitely was astounding...
Thanks for sharing this!! 😎👍🙏🙏🙏
Saw them at the Worcster Centrum near Boston in 88'. Incredible show.
Skyscraper is one of my favorite c d's.
I was lucky to see this show in Ritchfield Coliseum, basically Cleveland, OH. This was one of the greatest shows I've seen over the years and I seen many. Diamon Dave was just spot on perfect back then and what can I say about Stevie Via???.... You seen the way he played the guitar here, his guitar 🎸 🔥 was begging for mercy. He literally sent his guitar thru a portal to a different dimension and it came back crying, weeping and said fuk it ...😂 This line up was great just like the 80's in general. Best times of my life.....
Thanks for posting this - awesome show and didn’t realize Dave did VH material in his sets. Absolutely loved listening to this show played on my 13th birthday in the rink of my favorite hockey team!
Amazing share, I have discovered Steve Vai 30 years ago, and he remained for me the best guitar player ever since then
I saw this concert! Great video and memories.
Great upload
Never knew he had the same kit on this tour as Eat 'Em & Smile...Thanks for sharing..
Same kit?
Diamond D Greg’s drum set... or drum kit
Crazy to think this was only 10 years after VH 1 came out!
I was 13, one of the best albums to go down in rock history !!!
What a show. Dam
I was at the concert right after this one in Cleveland Ohio, It was my first concert I'll never forget, poison opened up
Cool. I seen this tour at the Ohio center. Stayed out all night waiting in line for tickets at Buzzards Nest records. Got front row seats on Steve’s side.
I saw this concert, Poison opened up for them and they played songs from their second album “Open Up and say aaah” be for it was even released. I still have my concert ticket stub.
Hell yeah 🤘🤘
Saw Dave and this band at Monsters of Rock Donington UK on this tour. Stripped down to 45 mins. Still magic. What a day that was Helloween Guns n Roses Megadeth DLR Kiss and Iron Maiden. Those WERE the days.
The audio of that is on here of Dave. Have you heard it?
I was there too ! Remember he forgot the words to Jump !
There'll never be another like him . Those were the best of times ❤
Saw DLR on this tour in Niagara Falls man what a great show.
Wow, I was at this show. What a great show. I wish I'd caught the Eat'em tour, as this one was just a little too slick and polished. I was disappointed how much Billy Sheehan was minimized on the Skyscraper record and didn't end up on the tour. That said, this was a great show, and DLR is a great showman.
Sheehan was doing his thing with Mr. Big, which I think is a better suit for him.

I was at this show great memories
Dave had incredible energy. The first gig I ever saw. Just went to Uni in late 88, saw this at Birmingham NEC in England in late fall. Not a bad first gig! Crows went bonkers when Jump started at the end
I saw that drummer play in a club with jazz great Larry Carlton. Versatile drummer.
He is really an amazing drummer and cool guy. He has a RUclips channel. Check it out.
Congratulations and a thousand thanks to @William G for opening your treasures with images of large groups, singers, who cover more than 32 truly incredible years.
Having the idea of filming 30 or more years or 25 years ago was not trivial in color, camera and sound almost always precise between audio and video really a thousand thanks William
I just participated, and invite those who can do it or want to.
David from France
I read basically every comment and never get sick of accolades from kind and clearly intelligent viewers like yourself. Thanks again.
I saw this concert when he came to Spokane Washington and it was awesome!!! No cell phones, just thousands of people rocking out to one of the greatest frontman and his band! Also, Steve looks a bit like Chris DeGarmo of Queensryche, when wearing the trench coat, lol.
Very clear why Steve Vai is now regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His technical ability and showmanship during his live performances is unmatched.
Steve Vai is the most charismatic guitarist I've ever seen. Humping the floor while two hand tapping your guitar? Even Eddie didn't do that and he's my fav guitarist of all time.
Watch some Prince shows for more charisma. Similar creative moves, great dancer and guitarist.
I have that Ibanez bass that Matt Bissonnette is playing early in the show
Three years later grunge comes on the scene and the party was over.
Simply depressing:-( things were so much fun then..
Thanks 👍😘🇸🇪
Thank you for filming this and sharing. Bravo! These Roth shows have some of the loudest crowds I’ve ever heard.
Solid show in many levels!. Roth rules!!
amazing, saw them in rotterdam ahoy in the netherlands , same year. Right before everything changed in rock and metal music :)
Exelent band
Great upload, not cool that the right side went out after 15 minutes but still great. 🤘🎸🥁
Switch to mono...
I saw this show two weeks earlier in Portland ME. It was my first concert and it was great. I remember the surfboard over the crowd and a boxing ring also over the crowd. I've always felt this was the closest i came to seeing original VH because of DLR. I saw Van Hagar twice, and they were good, but not as Roth centric obviously.
Honestly, Dave might have sounded better in this era than he did during most of Van Halen's era when he usually chopped up the music too much and meandered his way through the lyrics. On this tour he was keeping it all pretty tight and actually singing.
I will NEVER FORGET THIS CONCERT IN AUSTRALIA. I WAS iN HIGH SCHOOL BUT I WENT ALONE.(2 trains..) COZ i WASN'T GONNA MISS IT AND ME PARENTS BOUGHT ME THE TICKET. I PUT oN ME BATTLEJACKET AND WENT.. CAUGHT UP WITH FELLO BANGERS FROM SCHOOL ON WAY OUT AND SOMEONE CALLED OUT.."" RUSH MUST BE A SMALL PERSONS BAND"" IT WAS ABOVE MY 1987 BACKPATCH. FLY BY NIGHT.. 2112
Oh!! We GOT!!!!!!! MORE!!!!!!! THAN THE AMERICAN PRODUCTION.
THE BEST. FROM AUS.
Melbourne?
@@Andybaby how in the name of GOD DO YOU KNOW THAT????🤣
@@glennhird8398 I was there. I saw DLR and Steve Vai stretching behind the curtain, just before the show at Rod Laver.
@@Andybaby good guess. Or do you remember my JACKET?.🤣🤘🏻
Wow! I Roth really looked on top of his game here! Still love Van Halen with him the most, but he looks like his shit is together here, big time!
Saw the opening night of this Tour in Vancouver Canada it was a 10/10 Concert
I saw all the big 80’s acts live and this show may have been the best.
Also in the top 3 for me:
Crue - Dr. Feelgood tour
Def Leppard - Hysteria tour
Steve and Dave worked well together!!!!
Man this is killer
Impressive show. This is not only DLR at his prime but a moment in music when everything was all over the top. Record companies imvested a lot of money on Tours & promotion and the genre was untouchable until '89. Vai destroys some of Eddie's solos and even some of him but who cares. He was a perfect match for DLR musically & during his performances live. I can't imagine who could have filled that shoes if it hadn't been him.
Eddy came up with the riffs n songs ....Vai couldnt
@@Swanlord05Vai is a better person and is still alive and healthy :) unlike that prima donna drug addicted EVH
Bad ass video
people who say Dave was only a studio singer and couldnt sing live never saw him live
Steve Vai the over the top guitar master. A perfect fit for DLR.
This was over the top r n r and he had the best there was around him.
To me this was the peak of the 80-ties supergroup thing.
Man I miss those days
Yes. I Miss those days sooo bad. We are fortunate to have been there
No mobiles. Fantastic
Amen
Wow great to see! Amazing how you can get a camera in like that back in those days too!
Would love to have seen anybody those early tours! Never understood why he played so much VH - he has so many other songs from their albums that would have been better in this scene
A lot of the bootleg videos from this era were recorded in Canada. I think they had loose rules. In the USA it was nearly impossible to bring a video camera to a concert.
Grandiosa performance.
One of the greatest entertainers ever
Tip of the cap to Steve Via, he had some pretty big shoes to fill and he pulled it off with style and class. 🤘
Dave’s killing it to
David looks great here,on top of his game.. Seems like he always blitzed at the end of his Van Halen tenure.
Still haven't forgiven my Mum for not letting me go to the Sydney show. I was 13 and seriously crapped in cotton wool. My BF at the time did get a tour tshirt...which I still have!! What a combo; DLR & VAI. He sure knows talent. Later to team with Jason Becker & John 5...after having Edward as your guitarist, sets the bar very high indeed.
GREAT JOB ALL...THANX 4 MAKING Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO the music worldwide.
LOVE YOU ALL...!!!
Glam rock was such candy then! Gluttons for punishment? Almost certainly! However, I loved every minute of it, esp. when it was done LA style...southern California!
Matt Bissonette on bass here. Replaced Billy Sheehan for this tour and playing with his brother on drums.
Billy was starting Mr. Big at the time.
I have the Ibanez bass that Matt is playing in the beginning of the show
Saw Dave when Van Halen went on their very first tour. 1978 I think. It's a foggy memory.
David is a black man in a white mans body! Full of soul. He can pull off a classic blues tune and rock harder than hell!!
So cool to see this!!! I saw DLR at Hammersmith Odeon 31 August 1988 (and at Donnington too). Hammersmith was a great gig and by today's standards such an intimate venue. Matt Bissonette on bass was really brilliant to those of us lucky enough to be front row, and was handing us loads of guitar picks. Vai was a little more stand offish!! He arrived in a limo out front of the venue and got mobbed!
