  • If my camera work didn't ruin it for you, and you appreciated me uploading it, contribute (if you can spare) a buck or two. I make no money from views, all ad revenue goes to the acts. I wonder who does get the money though. The artist or the record companies? The artist owns the 'author' rights and typically the record company owns the 'mechanical recording' rights. But they didn't record it... I did.
paypal.me/WilliamGVideo It may interest you that donations of $20 or more gain access a link for the fully uncompressed version, typically 13 GB/hr or $10 gets you a 2 GB/hr version, (RUclips versions are crunched 10:1 or about 250 Mb/hr) All donations are provided with a link to a comprehensive spreadsheet itemizing extensive details of the William G channel videos.
It may incorporate digital stabilization and some slight edits.
Shows prior to May '88 were shot on VHS-C so there may be gaps for tape changes approximately every 20 mins.

This is absolutely Dave at his flawless diamond best, before this I was watching a show from 1999 in Finland and the two aren't even vaguely similar. Steve is at the top of his game in this performance and the rest of the band is super tight and solid as a rock. On this night with that band and that amazing crowd Dave truly was the greatest front man on earth imo.

Great band! Great show. Sure it sounded great live, camera here is not accurate, it's rough. Some songs are missing i think. Who on earth is going to sing perfectly these songs with all the running around, jumping, martial arts etc? No one, young or old. I saw the eat em and smile tour. It was awesome. You were smiling for a few weeks after the show. You were entertained. There was no better showman and frontman in the 70s and 80s. Ted Templeman said it himself there would of never been a Vanhalen without Roth. Also i met a lightman who along with 24 other roadies who worked for Vanhalen, he and 23 of them went with Roth when the band split up. Roth treated them good. Those first 6 albums have it all, 4 great talented guys. A drummer who is amazing and has a snare sound like a hollow log, totally his own sound. What a bass player, who sings these harmonies that are perfect. A guitar player who revolutionized the guitar. A super star and the other superstar was Roth.
    They had originality.
Vanhagar did not. I don't dislike Sammy Hagar, i do like his song heavy metal.
Anyway it was too sweet and radio friendly V.Hagar for me, there was no adventure and drifting off into other things like I'm on fire, mean street, atomic punk, everybody wants some, I'm on fire, tora tora, loss of control, hot for teacher, house of pain.

One of the best frontmen of all time, just for his performances in the 80's.
Not a great singer, but that's not the be-all and end-all of being a frontman, especially in live rock n roll shows.
Roth just took control of the stage, the band and most importantly the audience. Not many frontmen can do that on this kind of scale.
Steven Tyler of course, back in the day. Chris Robinson. Even Vince Neil back in the 80's, up to around 1993 or so. Mick Jagger, even today, great frontman.
Roth is definitely among the best.

My first concert ever! Was totally blown away by the energy and how hard they worked to put on a “show” and not just “rock out”. From the big timpani drum interlude, rappelling to Oh Canada, boxing ring second stage, three-necked guitar, surf boarding... to the little moments like stopping “Goin Crazy” to switch to Spanish and the insane guitar flourishes Vai brought to the table. The next time DLR came to town it was a completely different vibe. He had his painted on coke smile and dialed in a pretty basic show that seemed to focus on sounding like a budget VH instead of it’s own identity. I remember the openers Cinderella and Extreme both blew him off the stage.

The Eat 'em and Smile tour in '86 was definitely a ballsier and overall better tour but this one had its moments. Skyscraper had some genius Vai moments but it felt like Sheehan wasn't the only one with a foot out the door. Matt B did an admirable job but it sure would be fun to get the original lineup together for a one-off show even if David can't swing the vocals like he used to, just for the energy!

I saw this tour in Phoenix. Great show! Standing right up front! Dave surfing overhead into the crowd on a surf board. Steve played that triple neck heart-shaped guitar, with necks on each side, playing with both hands at the same time. Unreal! I got to see Vai, Eddie, Satriani and Yngwie all up close. Like within 5-10 ft. I won't even begin to say who was best. They were all such different experiences, and all so great. I'll just acknowledge how lucky I was to get to see some of that stuff. Satch for Alien, Yngvie for his first album, Vai for Skyscraper. The time I saw Eddie that close was Diver Down. Just ... damn good times man. (by the way, this vid is all fucked up man. I had to write this down on a different vid and copy it before YOUR vid fucked up! still great to see. thanks!)

I remember seeing DAVID LEE ROTH on the Eat Em' And Smile tour man it was amazing!!! Dave was spot on.it reminded me of VH thru 78 thru 81 until Dave started to get a little too hammered live.Dave was sober as a judge during that tour and this one too.as appreciative as I am to mr.Gemmell putting this out it is a lousy recording and not indicative of how good they really sounded.i mean you have to hand it to Dave he put together a super group.Steve Vai,Billy Sheehan and Greg Bisonette!!!! wow!! to me imo eat em and smile blows away 5150. I like hard party feel good rock, not into a bunch of goofy synths and ballads, and I'm sorry but Edward lost his great 'brown sound" crunching hard guitar edge w 5150 and ou812 imo.i think a critic put it best when he was reviewing the critically successful 2012 A.D.K.OT. he said "For some reason when Roth is in the band,Eddie plays guitar like the world wants him too and Dave has to get some credit for that" I read that on Wikipedia by just putting in "A Different Kind Of Truth" A.K.A THE REAL F'ING VH BABY!!!!

    • @blite13
      @blite13 7 лет назад

yeah right, that's why everyone remembers Dave's 'eat em' and no one remembers or plays 5150. Dave is a clown with limited talent. He rode the VH wave and still is and why is that? Because he can't do it on his own...even with a 'supergroup'. Dave needs Eddie for fame and cash. Eddie needed Dave to tour and bring in cash for his Bro who was broke. And of course, they needed suckers like your self who worships a guy who can't sing and pay huge cash to see a poor version of once was.

Oh and a different kind of truth was a flop. They can't stand each other, that they can't even write something new together. But this is what you consider great.....dork.

I DON'T KNOW ASS HAT BUT DAVE HAD ABOUT 3 OR 4 SUMMERS OF PLATINUM SUCCESS PAL. SAMMY IS A GOOFBALL ON STAGE PLUS DLR WITH VH IS 1 OF 5 ROCK BANDS TO HAVE MULTIPLE DIAMOND CERTIFIED ALBUMS...VH78 AND 1984 NONE WITH HAGAR SUCK ON THAT AND CHOKE. LOOK IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA. THOSE 1ST 4 STUDIO ALBUMS WITH ROTH ARE ON PAR WITH LED ZEP FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!! EDDIE TRUNK KNOWS A HELL ALOT MORE THAN BOTH OF US COMBINED ABOUT HARD ROCK AND HEAVY METAL AND HE SAID THAT. HAGAR W VH WAS A POP SUGAR COTTON CANDY DRIVEN MACHINE...IT SUCKED. WHEN VH EVEN WASN'T KNOWN THIS UNKNOWN BAND OPENED FOR BLACK SABBATH ON THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR AND COMMENCED TO BLOW THEM OFF THE STAGE. THAT IS A HARD FACT MY FRIEND. EVEN IOMMI SAID HE TRIED TO PLAY FASTER JUST TO KEEP UP WITH THE ENERGY THIS UNKNOWN BAND WAS DOING. HAVE YOU EVER IN YOUR LIFE SEEN AN OPENING UNKNOWN BAND BLOW DOORS OFF OF A MAJOR ACT??? DIDN'T THINK SO. EVEN THE EGO-LESS MIKE ANTHONY SAID "WE WILL BE HEADLINING AFTER THIS CAUSE WE BLEW THEM OFF THE STAGE.

Luv DLR and like only a fanboy could.
      But.....
After watching this and a bunch of other late 80’s rock concerts, everyone can understand why the music had to change.
Guns N’ Roses & Metallica, then later Alice In Chains & Nirvana, said no to Glitter Rock.

I'm sure it was a good show, but 1986 when they were on the Eat'em and Smile tour was the show to see!!! What's crazy is that anyone who was in the music scene where I'm from seemed to have taken the night off to come see the show!!!!!! All the Who's Who were in the audience!!!!!!!!!! It wouldn't be the same without Billy Sheehan!!!!!! Plus, I heard he lost a boat load of money on this tour!!!!!!! Nevertheless I am a big David Lee Roth fan!!!!!!!!!!
