    Congrats on your first solo remote anchorage. If I may . . . . . When raising your mainsail, let off the main sheet completely. Keeping the main sheet tight causes the mainsail to start filling with the wind as you hoist the sail. The higher the sail gets, the more wind fills the sail making the hoist very difficult, if not impossible. Once the sail is up, ease off the topping lift while sailing, you'll get a better sail set. Nice looking Triton, they are great boats.

      Thanks for the tips! I appreciate it, lots to learn but love the process

    Yes. Unattached bins will come flying off. It's sort of like reeding, if you think about it,do it. Good sailing!

    So happy to see someone raise sail. To often sailing videos just become motoring around.

      Thanks, yeah I try but being on a bit of a schedule and not being able to control the weather means some motoring at times. Definitely prefer having the sails up

    On the few times I've anchored (as a solo novice too) I've tried to set the anchor alarm on my phone at the moment I drop the hook (as I stand at the bow). It's not easy as you're doing more than one thing already, but that way if you swing 180 degrees the alarm isn't triggered unnecessarily.

    • @TrailguidePictures
      @TrailguidePictures  Месяц назад

      Yeah, I think I forgot the alarm until it was down but something to practice. I just added some extra ft for the drift. Plenty of room in case I dragged a bit before the alarm went off

    Very nice!
    I have a lot of experience in river canoe trips, inflatable dinghy journeys, fishing from boats but I would like to build my own sailing mini cruiser so this channel seems to be quite an inspiration.

    Oh yes and please try to tie off your halyards on the mast to your mast stays a lot less clanking in the wind for sleeping.

    • @TrailguidePictures
      @TrailguidePictures  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks. Yes, I do.
      I actually pull them out tight and tie them to the shroud. It’s better than tying to the mast but still bangs around up top

    So happy for you to be enjoying your trip after all the trepidation that can be involved in this lifestyle. I think more experience will lead to less stress and more of these moments. The constant slapping of water on the hull would drive me insane though! Great job sharing your experience with us.Thank you.

    It's nice to see these lovely old boats still sailing. I have a 1966 Bristol 27 which is 1ft smaller than the Triton but orherwise very similar. We have the outboard well model which we prefer over an inboard. Happy sailing.

    Some hints, eh? Tighten your main halyard, and ease the topping lift for better main sail shape and control! Otherwise, Good sailing, Mate! Enjoy every chance you can get!! Still sailing at 87 in two weeks!

    been with you on Algonquin, in the shop building a wooden canoe, and now setting sail. Do you think this model will take you to the Ocean and beyond? I have considered the Alberg boats for some time, have looked at the Titan’s, considering a 30-43’ sloop or ketch. Comments?

    That "just me out here" feeling is what I dream of too. In my case, Patagonia.. but Chilean maritime authorities make that a bit "constrained". Total freedom should be the whole point of this, no?
