These aren't the most advanced techniques in my toolbox, but if you follow these two rules, your cross-examinations will be more powerful, you'll have more control over runaway witnesses, and your jury trial results will be better than ever before.

as someone who has been cross examined many times, this guy is right on. these tips will control the testimony as best that he can...but....he will still be stuck with the facts!!
People buy emotions over facts. That’s just human nature. These guys bank on emotions. It’s all theater until the punitive damages are read.

I love cross examination! I was doing it this morning and told my friend about it. "Hey, I was doing some cross examination stuff this morning!" "Cool! What did you get?" "Well I was doing it with a colleague. I said: 'Yup, I'm pretty sure this is a cross. It has some scratches in it though..." Wonderful stuff those crosses are...
My top two tips:
1. Check the Court Record to find the evidence you need.
2. Object to any section of the testimony that does not match with the evidence.

Protip: slam desk for added effect before every question. Also, make sure to yell HOLD IT! before you press a statement (you should press every single one regardless of relevance) and TAKE THAT! every time you present evidence.

You forgot, when you get witness cornered in their lies, CUE THEME SONG.
I am a total novice and I figured that out myself by just common sense. I wrote my cross examination on these exact principles because you want no room for the witness to take control
Actually 5 tips:
1) every question is a leading question
2) One fact per question
3) do not use adverb (really?,overly?,slightly?). it gives witness to object
4) don't use perception (you saw him doing...,you see it...)
5) taglines(correct?,is that right?,am I right?) shouldn't be used often because it can cause harm to your leading question. If you remove the tagline, your cross-XM will be more powerful. But this contradicts tip no. 2.
Thus it depends on how your case is.
I wonder if this guy has looked at the comments section at all and got confused as all hell due to all of the Ace Attorney references.

I also hate it when lawyers make leading questions by just added "isn't it" to the end of a sentence. it is so very confusing. For example, You didn't go to the store, isn't that true? You did not go to the store is not that true. If the witness says yes, are they saying they went to the store or they didn't go? Double negatives are so very complicated to understand, especially when the lawyer uses them wrongly and fails to understand two negatives are a positive.

@Dashbarr It doesn't have to be a lawyer. The general public has to also do some effort, and this helps them be able to work with their lawyer and not screw up...

If you fail at an object the judge will penalize you. OBJECTION OVERRULED

So, you're saying you'd trust someone to help you not go to jail, and just do all the work? It might help if you knew some of this stuff before hand, so you would be able to help...
After watching the first six and a half minutes, there's one thing I would like cleared up: Should every question be a leading question?
Tip 9: Point your index finger (filled to the brim with justice) whenever you find a contradiction. Sometimes you might want to point your finger at the prosecutor in order to get a point across. Do it. Point being, spam point.
In my opinion it really doesn't matter if your asking me a leading question with the hopes of me giving you a yes or no answer, the witness, defendant or plaintiff still can give you a explanation and make it more detailed. That tactic would never work on me at all.

@casey321b The lawyer is the one who is the professional. Trying to tell someone who is an expert how to do something is interference. Do you want to piss off the person trying to keep you out of jail, or even worse, hinder them?
@casey321b What? What are you referring to? Why would the general public need to know about cross-ex tips if they aren't on trial? Do some effort? Its the lawyer's job to tell their clients (not the general public) what to do on the stand, not how to ask questions.

Once you got the witness on the verge of breaking down in real court and the Judge is slamming his gavel trying to get you to push off, start to play epic music "cornered" Is prefered and slam your desk a lot.

+Laurence Jackson Short answer to your question: you can't. But that's just because you can't stop someone from lying, regardless of the publicly acknowledged contradictory facts.
But you see what you did there with the answer? It was short, not an opening for the deposed to give a long or damaging answer. And's the effectiveness of a leading question: it allows them to only stick along the line of thought you want, not the line of thought they may want.
Easy tip...become very aggressive, start shouting what the fuck, then proceed to ask in an exasperated voice where were you.

Very good advice here. But do remember that jurors can become weary of hearing 'isn't that correct' at the end of every question. It is important to lead but don't do it too often in succession. Jurors are not stupid. Boring them is a cardinal sin and they will not thank or forgive you for making them bored. Human beings cannot help liking and silk king certain people. You want them to like you but you must not ingratiate yourself with them. If you appear thoughtful, professional, understanding and aware they have a difficult job you can get them on your side. For example. You represent someone injured in a car accident. You do not want your client to seem like a money grabbing (not really hurt) pedestrian. Make it individual. Help them understand that your client had no choice but to sue if he was to afford the medical care he needs, or opes to help others be safe, was hard working, decent, law abiding citizen (like the jurors) now has difficulty working etc etc. never lie but always aim to show your client in a good light. I base this on 20 years in court with plenty of victories (also plenty of losses). Another good tip, remember you will not win every case but should not allow losses to discourage you. Always review cases you lost and see if you can pinpoint where the case was lost. YOu may have done a great job and lost because one of your witnesses did not perform well. If so don't beat yourself up. Just resolve to ensure in your next case you gve that extra attention to your witnesses. Be sure you know what their evidence will be and their limits. Good luck.

Nothing can be worse than for an attorney to blindside his or her self in court. As presented in this video, when the leading questions turn to a witness explanation, Murphy's Law can come into play all too quickly.
