+Chris Crowder The driver/designer is a long time family friend of ours. His name is Clayton Hollingsworth. He owns a powder-coating business in London, KY. For more info on the build, I'd hit up his son, Gilbert Hollingsworth (owner of Gilbert's offroad) on Facebook.

My regards to the Hollingsworths. Nice build. I like that the dampers are inboard, yet they are not really a pushrod suspension--much simpler and easier to tune on a rock buggy. It looks like the upper a arms just got an extra triangle to relocate the shock mount.
Love to have seen the build. Trans, T case, diffs. Great video tho, reminds me of a SEMA truck with M561 "Gama Goat" IRS / IFS parts with 44s, this is like what it would give birth to.
About 4 years ago I test drove a Solstice GXP Turbo. Had to take the soft top down because I'm 6'4". It was spring, but it was in the 40's, 4" of my head above the windshield, really the car had no balls off the line, but quickly made up for it about 45mph. Flying down the road the window stickers and shit flew out the car, looked at the speedo I'm doing 98mph ... "U" turn to go back on a 4 lane, took the traction control off, it got some tire, kept on it till the turbo caught up, smoked the tires sideways on a 2 lane. I would buy one, but I just can't fit in the dam thing. Great little car. You like yours?
totally badass. this may just be my opinion, but i think it would do a little better if the suspension was set up a little softer. Maybe stickier tires too.
Great looking build and engineering. I like the way you mounted those inboard shocks. However, they don't look like they are facilitating much travel. Probably much better on the open desert terrain.
If your gonna build a 4 cylinder motor why would you go with a ecotec? I'm not being a shit talker but more curious. I would figure a foreign motor would better fit.
That motor sounds neither happy nor healthy. And if more wheel speed is required, that is literally all it has to give. No way can he go to a higher gear, he's just screwed. Very, very cool buggy in desperate need of better powerplant. There has to be something the right size and weigh besides this Ecotec.
Ya I really think it was dumb to go Eco tech. It sounds like the computer pulled all the timing out of it for some unsafe condition. Hate to say it but he could be making way more power for less money if he went K24a Honda but hey the owner is probably a die hard Chevy guy so much so that he went for one of the worst modern four cylinder engine families ever instead of doin research on good 4 bangers. Just saying I've seen 200 hp NA K24a motors go for $1000 with a trans with less than 50k miles on occasion and he bought an Eco tech for no less than 2grand. He could've had a really nasty and reliable 300+ hp K series for that. But hey to each his own
neither of you seemed to notice that he said he was having computer troubles no way he paid $2k for that engine you could piece that together today for about a grand minus the n20 throw on different cams, pulley on the supercharger, tune it and you've got 300+hp in a lightweight and reliable setup
+cms8383 +cms8383 you seem to not see that I explained the computer troubles. He's using a stock computer obviously, which if you know these motors you know it's a PAIN. I'm building a little tube chassis drift kart and I've considered lots of 4 bangers. Do your research a decent cobalt ss motor and a usable trans will never be less than 2 grand and also will not perform nearly as well as a k20/k24 which can be had with s trans for much cheaper. If you're saying you can throw those together for less than a grand you're on drugs. You can't find a base low hp ecotec for much less than a 200 hp base k24a with a trans and low miles. Then you are saying you can build a 300 hp car cheaper than a Honda motor which is insane. The same blower on the Eco tech would make more reliable hp on a k24 w/o cams. I'm a ford guy so you'd think I'd be saying dura tech 24/7 but you have to be fucked in the head to argue a ecotec over a k series.
+Sean Bowman You can buy an entire Cobalt for under $2 grand, I can find at least 5 2.2l-2.4l Cobalt or Cavalier engines for sale for under $500 dollars on Craigslist at all times. Those super chargers are readily available through GM performance and will put out 300hp with stock internals even with the 2.2l's. From what I've seen it can be rather difficult to find a bell housing adaptor for a K24 that will mate with a turbo 350-400 or 700r4. However, those adaptors are readily available for Eco techs. Dollar for dollar you will spend double-triple the amount he did on a similar 4wd K24 build.
+Wagon Burner why mount it to a th350 or any other coventional trans and tcase setup. this rig runs subaru diffs if im not mistaken the motor is mounted longways why not use what used to be the left and right axle shaft output for the old front wheel drive to turn driveshafts for the now front and rear diff. Hell even a good gsr limited slip trans mounted to any b series with a turbo in a chassis the size of a rzr xp would blow a sxs out of the water for prob half the price of a new sxs.
+Brian Stout which one are you referring to? this buggy has been a work in progress for a couple of years now. long before the Armada car was even thought about.
If you don't know how the base model the motor comes outta, you wouldn't know it either, though I will say, it's lacking the normal supercharger whine like most apps, I'm glad to see the Subaru outlaw as well, though I'm not sure about going solid axle, even with the benefits of less moving parts
I'm pretty sure you would change your mind when you got there, video does this hill zero justice, and the rocks sticking out are a lot bigger than they look
Should definitely get drivers to tell us everything about interesting builds like this. Would love to see one

Sounds pissed off. Really interesting IFS chassis.
not sure that engine is too happy. I know the super charged eco tech tends to Rev much quicker than that Johnson two horse ya got there .
Hahaha...I'm with Josh on this one. Was a killer build......just lost me when I heard that startup >.
My regards to the Hollingsworths. Nice build. I like that the dampers are inboard, yet they are not really a pushrod suspension--much simpler and easier to tune on a rock buggy. It looks like the upper a arms just got an extra triangle to relocate the shock mount.
+FuriousFilipino yeah it works well and he is still working out the bugs on it
Awesome Video As Always!
Thanks for Taking the time!
Cool looking Buggy!!
Wow man that thing looks beast! Interested to see how much punishment the full independent suspension setup can take!
probably one of the coolest bouncers out there.. right along with the kracken and ultrabouncer
Probably staring at the future of the sport right there. Both my my mud truck and race car have a clutch pedal so what the hell do I know right?
I too am a big fan of a gearbox. If you know how to drive they work wicked !
hahaha => i was looking at rc cars and clicked on this thumbnail and it's a real car :-D
+karel degreef haha, yep does remind you of an rc though
+karel degreef me too xD
karel degreef it's not a real car. It's an asshole mobile
Thought it was an rc too.
those people arent really driving it. it still is remote control. kind of like a carnival ride
isn't that built by the shop that built outlaw?
The IRS Buggy looks like It would do just fine dune running or desert racing, with a change of tire.
yeah I am sure it would, would be cool to see for sure
I like it!! Pretty cool! Just needs a Ls! lol
+ROCKWELLOFFROAD.COM LS powering the future one swap at a time. Hell in the future the manned mars rover is going LS powered
Love to have seen the build.
Trans, T case, diffs.
Great video tho, reminds me of a SEMA truck with M561 "Gama Goat" IRS / IFS parts with 44s, this is like what it would give birth to.
Eu
the future right there. great stuff!
Every prepper should have one of these
Nice build just gotta get it tuned in could use a little more travel?
smoothest ride up the hill fer sure riding like a caddy with a cobalt engine lol nice
I would have gone with an EcoBoost myself, but its a very cool buggy. I take it he has a FWD transmission with the diff welded?
softer spring rate would do wonders:)
drive shafts level.... use that droop:)
I like that IFS set-up.
same motor as my solstice. can put out 400hp stock with e85 with awesome tq.
id love to have a idenpendant suspension buggy and a solid axle buggy.
About 4 years ago I test drove a Solstice GXP Turbo.

You like yours?
They are intentionally gutless at low RPM to save the motor, transmission, and axles from bad things.
Is this a 2.4? Or 2.0 lnf with a supercharger? 2.0 lnf is better of staying turbo
Running gear specs?
The chassis is pretty technical with the inboard shocks and rocker arms. Who builds those?
gmax876 looks all custom for that push rod Suspension
MyLonewolf25
looks sweet but zero travel
Good for road racing, just add slicks.
Cool i thought it was a a RC from the thumbnail lol..nice ride !
totally badass. this may just be my opinion, but i think it would do a little better if the suspension was set up a little softer. Maybe stickier tires too.
kewl shock setup! and kewl full independent suspension!
Great looking build and engineering. I like the way you mounted those inboard shocks. However, they don't look like they are facilitating much travel. Probably much better on the open desert terrain.
The inboard suspension setup is really cool, much less vulnerable than a conventional setup! But the lag with the engine.... ugh
+Robert Bosley computer was messed up is why the engine was running right
Once I saw Clayton driving it the similarity to the Outlaw made sense.
Goes and looks better than it sounds.
I want to see the car drive track more often.
did anyone else think this was an rc car at first
THAT was pretty badass!!!...
Is that using the transaxle into the IFS carriers?
LSJ very impressed yes im assume its not stock but lsj
I guarantee those inboard front shock mounts aren't strong enough. Cantilevered 4" off a single tube? Not a chance.
been running for over a year now and no issues
Glad to hear it.
Looks the part but lack of suspension travel really hurts it's abilities
looks like a new breed off beast!. Is that the GM/Vauxhall ecotec 2000cc lump?.
I believe its a 2.2L but yes, its a GM Ecotec
that is the 2.0 lsj, out of a cobalt ss/sc
+Brent Coleman Thanks for the information, cool truck.
For such a light bug someone messed up with the coil rating, or the leverage provided by the arms.
How did you make this awd? What trans/ diff did you use?
wow that thing works really good
Damn. Works so good it's not exciting to watch.
Holy shit! It's look like a postapocaliptic buggy :)
+Michal550D wow very original comment michal
If your gonna build a 4 cylinder motor why would you go with a ecotec? I'm not being a shit talker but more curious. I would figure a foreign motor would better fit.
sorry for the comment on such an old vid but what size of CV joints are being used? looking in to building a rig and looking for options.
I am not sure, Check out RCV Performance they can get you what you need!
@@MadRam11 thanks man
Cant believe that chevy cruze engine is strong enough for supercharging..
the suspension is very hard
Where is the outlaw?
Sounds like you got a misfire - maybe re-gap those plugs.
Was that engine pulled out of a Chevy Cobalt SS?
+Maine Man yes it sure was
MadRam11~ That fella had a damn good idea by doing that. Kuddos to him.
motor needs a tune or just sounds like crud maybe
+Stephen M computer was messed up
I shit my pants...sounded just like that.
haha
definitely needs a tune up, other than that it's a great looking buggy
how much ?
lil 4banger doing work!
how heavy is one of these?
this one weighs around 3500lbs
whats the 4x4 system from?
it's all custom built, uses 9" center sections
MadRam11, what trans, stock?
What state is this in?
Alabama
Air down them tires
Costs at least 10 times more than a rail buggy but will only slightly out perform it!
Awesome!!
That motor sounds neither happy nor healthy. And if more wheel speed is required, that is literally all it has to give. No way can he go to a higher gear, he's just screwed.

i think the superchoocher stopped choochin
super ,mais il a y quoi d'etre sourd en fin journée
i knew someone would make a cheap version of that bad ass ifs rig
+Brian Stout which one are you referring to? this buggy has been a work in progress for a couple of years now. long before the Armada car was even thought about.
You get er dialed in and some seat time that looks like it will kick a Zz
Totally wrong CG and shocks and springs not even in the ball park. Neat idea just not ideal.
+ChainDriveRail do you know how cantilever rockers work? im guessing no.
+enigma9789 Of course, but that has nothing to do with his springs and shocks being completely wrong.
Needs a pulley swap and/or computer work, or actually use the nitrous oxide, looks like a dry set-up to boot =/
this guy has to put those mud tires on backwards for more grip
You see that's why we need more physicist, what works for the very small can be skailed up to the very large.......
Looks nice, but too little travel and almost no droop, and that pushrod suspension must be a bitch to tune.
красавчик
I dig it!
A drug dealer dream . The getaway car .
Cobalt engine? looks like one.
yeah sure is
MadRam11 slick man!
I didn't see any supercharger -
It's on there its a cobalt engine with factory supercharger
its on the left side of the engine its right on the intake
Sounds like a 1956 beetle running on 3 cylinders with no exhaust. Not pretty.
suspension is a lil stiff
I was looking for RC.
You need torque to turn big meats and climb hills.. not gonna work out to good with this powerplant..
Because Ecotec use push load suspention
Brutal
Nice
sweet !!!
I wish I could get a buggy but my parents say it is to dangerous this video is not helping me prove my point
It's safer than driving down the interstate in a car
👍👍
a boxer engine would sound so much better.
If you think you can't off-road Independant suspension you're an idiot
But
Dam this thing sounds mean
I love it
Didn't see the supercharger.
Doesn't sound like it's supercharged.
Looks basic, sounds basic
lol, its a cobalt engine with a supercharger, I have no reason to lie
If you don't know how the base model the motor comes outta, you wouldn't know it either, though I will say, it's lacking the normal supercharger whine like most apps, I'm glad to see the Subaru outlaw as well, though I'm not sure about going solid axle, even with the benefits of less moving parts
The suspension is to stiff, good design, but without a good suspension it is worthless.
Lol that's the most fucked up suspension geometry I've seen in a while. Dude get zero travel
It actually has a decent amount, are you sure you are understanding it?
It s realy coolll :)
Motor didn’t sound healthy like it was Breaking up
Sounds like Samurai or Jimmy
that little buggy is a doozy
kinda sounded like it was eating a cylinder or two
Nice machine, but I got to tell you my two wheel pedal mountain bike will go up that hill faster. Time to cook, watch our videos.
he was having engine troubles, anytime you want to bring out your mtn bike, I will gladly film you failing
bahaha
MadRam11
Ha Ha, would take about 15 seconds to get up that hill in 1 gear.
I'm pretty sure you would change your mind when you got there, video does this hill zero justice, and the rocks sticking out are a lot bigger than they look
MadRam11
You might be right, that truck would surely go faster downhill.
