@@whobitmyname IMO TF3 is easier with just a bit of pattern memorization in the stages 4 and 5, and probably in the last stage, I got finally my 1CC in the 2nd attempt
Got this with the console in 1990. Those top views take me back. Never made it to the last level, and honestly, I'm glad I didn't because I would have burned my retinas.
Ahh... Remember renting this back in the day. I think it was my 8th birthday (1997), I remember getting Star Wars Micro Machines and after the party ended, my best friend Jaime and I were in the living room playing this. The startup music to this game still gives me an emotional reaction.
@@roderickstockdale1678 Oh no, I meant there were actually Micro Machines (the little toy models) of the fighters, starships, and other craft from Star Wars available at the time. I would get mine from Target. I didn't specify correctly; my bad.
Level 5 is literally the worst level design I've ever seen in the 41 years of my life, and i love challenging games, that's not challenging that's just terrible design. you can see that even with a pro playing he needs to keep going back and forward because the ship doesn't stop, it's like the ship has gone insane it's just ridiculous, no wonder they removed that from the sequels.
Hey, what does the synthesized voice say right before he says ‘Good Luck’ at the start of the game- does anyone know? Thanks in advance… I’ve been wonderin’ about that for years!
The overhead levels are balls annoying having to go back and forth. If the entire game was the side angle levels this would have been a huge win. When I 1st played it I thought the entire game would be like level one.
Dude, last night I got all the way to plealos and destroyed all it's cores but when it started falling I didn't know what to do and panicked and flew away only to lose it completely and get stuck in hyperspace. I call it the bad ending.
11:55 i think this is stage 5? that's the worst level design I've ever seen, in all of my gaming, 41 years playing challenging games I've come across some bad levels, but nothing this bad, this is just unplayable. good thing i don't have nostalgia for this or i would be just another one saying how good this garbage is, thankfully the sequels removed the top down stages. I congratulate you well done.
The first 3 bases are not that hard to get to (although playing it back in the day and trying to find them would be a pain and a lot of gameovers), but once you know where they are, it's alright. It's the last one that is a nightmare to do it the intended way. I just take short cut by intentionally dying and phasing through the walls to get to it. Honestly, once you've played the game a lot, you don't mind the top down stages that much, in fact you almost find them to be a nice change of pace and a relief because they're actually easier than the side scrolling stages. The hardest part of the top down stages is just finding where all the bases are, but once you know where they all are, they are pretty straight forward (stage 4 being the exception), although cheap deaths are par for the course.
I decided to try this game out and, from a no nostalgia perspective, it's not very good. I love Thunder Force III and its AC counterpart though. The back-and-forthing on the overhead stages wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that you have no idea where to go. Even after getting to stage 5 several times, the overhead stages are still confusing.
First game I ever played on the Megadrive and it blew me and my brother AWAY. Fantastic game and the soundtrack and FX are brilliant.
Pilot: This is Excelizer.
Whoever he was talking to: “Roger, Good luck” ☺️
Hahaha, thanks for this! I just couldn't make it out at all!
😂 Anytime gorgeous

I still have the physical copy of this game, one of my* all time favorites. Game play and music.

VG Longplays just rocks this game!
This was always my fave of the series because of the top down parts.
I agree. The top down sheets are reminiscent of 'Last Mission', arcade. another fave of mine.
You make it look so easy. I thought this was the toughest of the 3 Genesis releases, mainly because of those overhead levels
He makes it look easy because he uses savestates.
TF3 felt so much tougher because of the speed controls.

My cousin’s friend beat that game but took like an hour to beat the game. Yes it’s a difficult game even I can’t even pass the first level
I love this game. The visual style, the sound and music is so out of this world and alien
Thunder Force 2 is legendary with Spectacular graphics and STUNNING gameplay
This game had the hair on the back of my neck standing up when I first played it back in 1989. It was mind blowing

This also happens in the overhead stages when you get a weapon right as the game transitions to the performance screen.
my best 3 part:) cuz i had this game first on sega

At least they realised this and made the 3rd and 4th game how I like it.
If you think this version's hard, the X68000 version would melt your face off.

I think the thunder force games looked and sounded great, but were to hard and unplayable.. I prefer Musha, and The Curse.
Thunder Force III is great and won't kick your teeth in. There's a reason why people remember that one the most.
