Good stuff. I have a 2.5NA sitting in my garage that I hope to fire up in the near future to see if it's a worthy replacement for the tired 2.5 lump in my Series 3
Hi Mike, I have four 2.5 N/A engines (all military) and none of them have that diaphragm fitted. They all have a similar plate bolted on the bottom of the pump, but no diaphragm. I think that part may be from a 2.5 turbo diesel pump and the diaphragm will adjust the timing/fuelling depending on boost from the turbo, similar to the boost pin system on the later TDi engines. As you said it seems to make the engine run better, I'd be interested to see what kind of difference this may make in terms of performance while driving when fitted to an N/A instead of a turbo engine. Also, when fitted to a N/A, where have you fitted the other end of the diaphragm pipe to? Usually I would expect there would be an outlet on the turbo to connect it to which won't be there on a N/A. If there's some way to actuate this without turbo boost pressure, perhaps you've stumbled onto a way to get a small improvement in performance from the N/A engines?
Well it runs and idles! Will have to see what it is like in the truck So I swapped out the turbo advance and retard and the only other difference was the oblong top on the pump for the fuelling = the casting on the NA was slightly different to the Turbo I was considering swapping that out but may be better to send to a pump shop to do due to the springs etc inside and the setup for the fuelling = otherwise the same pump
The engine whisperer at it again.👍top man. The weather is also good back in your home land.
Best wishes and keep well.
The elf and safety brigade would have a field with you. Nice to see the old school getting on with it, well done.
ALL 68 HORSEPOWER WORKING TOGETHER THOSE PONY ARE PUMPING AWAY !
Although not powerful the 2.5 N.A. is pretty bullet proof. Great work mike
Nice work Mike sounds tunable good luck with it.
Indeed may be able to get 2 more BHP out of it!
WHAT EVER NEXT MIKE!!! WHAT ARE YOU LIKE!!!! 11,000 SUBS NOW, WELL DONE THAT MAN.
