Honestly, HOW did Sakurai come up with this character?
The only reason he looks the way he does is because he used up all of his levels assets in the original Kirby game, because Sakurai decided "screw it, I'm not wasting any data space" and then a: gave him the most complex look and b: gave him the most complex move set out of any character or boss in the game.
Everyone else had corners cut just so that they could have variety. That's why waddle dees, doos, and Kirby all look so similar, because in the original game, they literally had the same model for their body.
And then, instead of being a villain, he is just an narcissist who loves food and hates Kirby.
And all of that churned out the most legendary ruler to ever live. Brilliant.
He dont hate Kirby, just look at the Subapace Emissary

Given that Sakurai voices Dedede, and that he pulled that stunt in the K. Rool trailer, and he played a big role in The Subspace Emissary, and that he’s kind of just a troll in general, I think it’s fair to say at this point that he’s a projection/self-insert of Sakurai himself.
If you look up the smash tips section and go to Dedede's neutral b, it even says "King Dedede won't copy them, because he's already perfect" so it IS a projection of Sakurai no doubt
The only difference between the two is that Sakurai doesn't hate Kirby.

His forward smash feels more powerful than his down-B, which is pretty whack considering the down-B is meant to be this slow ultra-powerful move and no one uses it.
His forward smash is REALLY slow though, the charge up speed is terrible in a 1v1

Dedede was a real asset to me in Adventure Mode. A few swings with the hammer and I blasted my way to victory.
Hey that was basically me but it was me when I got Ganondorf. It only took a few well timed smash attacks and warlock punches and I would win. To make matters even better, I got an ability from the skill tree that meant I couldn't flinch when charging smash attacks. So I was sitting there waiting for the AI to mess up, and then I would forward smash and there would be nothing they could do about it if the AI fell for it. And with Ganondorf, I even beat Dharkon with ease.

Noone talks about how this was used in one of those battle cats fangames and was actually fitting and there was an actual harder boss than that that uses the actual fire theme. But then is used to waste since the boss when he loses he cries like a stupid spoiled toddler.

Fighting king dedede at the end of Kirby's dreamland after the boss rush is my all time favourite boss battle. The atmosphere I felt as a kid just from a gameboy game, this music and the original are just epic.

They really do a good job in giving the song a rotund feel if that makes sense, kettle drums, short notes between stressed notes to make them seem even longer, accents and crescendos at just the right moments
How to main Dedede
1. “Hand me another bag of em’ Chips!”
These smash songs, they are perfect.
Songs today are too short. Five to seven minutes of pure goodness are preferred. This one's a bit short, tho.
It's just long enough that you can enjoy the song, it's just short enough to not get old.

As a Dedede main, I want to share some tatics I use with the King
1. Up-Neutral your opponent with a headbutt, then attack them with a Up Air-Nuetral Spinning Hammer as many times as you can
2. If there is a crowd of fighters, Up-Speical with a Dedede Super Jump and cause major damage on the crowd
3. Ledge gaurd by using your Charge Hammer (Down B and hold) and side smashes, don't let your enemy get back on ground
4. If in Sudden Death, Dash Special with Gordos and prepare to inhale and shield a lot
Anything past here are other tactics I edited in.
5. If your enemy is shielding, use your dash smash to break that Shield, Dedede's slide is very strong and nearly takes down full shields
6. Your Down Neutral (rolling) and Dash Smash (Dedede Slide) are very powerful, use them on ememies at high %'s to get them of stage or even blast them off the stage for a KO
