I've been working on this latest project for a couple of time and I'm glad with the result. Obviously it's one of the more famous and recurring themes in the franchise making this video (currently) the longest in this channel's series.
The featured theme is Mt. Dedede which is King Dedede's well known theme. Dedede also has some different themes which are not covered in this video like Dream Course's. In addition I decided to include 2 themes originated and inspired of the original one: Masked Dedede and Taranza's theme. I had fun making this one (more than the usual) and I hope you'd like it as well. Enjoy!

Not really, actually! The second half of the song that everyone loves wasn't in the original, and wasn't added until Kirby Super Star. THAT'S the version that stuck around
@@jokirb2739 yeah, that seems to be a pattern! Keep the main tune, and then occasionally add an extra bit before or after to keep around. Star Allies did it too, with Forgotten Land keeping that piece in!

I can’t believe I forgot, the reason it always goes as hard as a final boss theme is because it originally was a final boss theme
Not to mention that the original version in Kirby’s Dream Land doesn’t even have the second half of the song. It went as hard as a final boss theme at only 50% power.

I think after robobot, each time they make a new of the dedede theme they add something new that carries on to the next game. Which is kinda why kirby osts hit so hard when imo

I wonder how they'll top Forgotten Land? Because I thought they wouldn't be able to after Star Allies came out. Sure the game was kinda subpar, but it was still a blast and the final boss was absolutely wild.

There is no perfect dedede theme, for perfection means it can't peak anymore.
Dedede Theme goes beyond, it Grows and Evolves eternally.
There is no perfection, but milestones: the original Dream Land, Super Star, Masked from Ultra and Macho from Star Allies.

currently, it has evolved into triple deluxe's masked dedede theme and forgotten land's roar of dedede. we'll see how far it evolves in the future.

I love how Taranza s basically associated with Dedede's theme at this point, and how the lore implies that Dedede is actually scared of spiders (specifically Taranza)
it's one of those little things that helps build characters and relationships

@@edoardocaccia6226 I meant that there's a leitmotif in common with Dedede's theme and Taranza's theme, like they sound similar to each other in some parts
@@carlkoopa7389 yeah, I was asking why the developers would make that choice. But I came to know that Taranza kidnaps and controls Dedede so I see now why they would share leitmotif, it's like "you're technically still against Dedede but not quite"
I absolutely love how this is presented. Feels very “official music gallery” in every aspect from the bordered footage to the corner sprite to the text crawl.
Both Dedede's theme and Meta Knight's theme are enjoyable to listen to. The remixes they got in Forgotten Land perfectly match their situations.
"Roar of Dedede" and "Masked and Wild" both have something off about them that fits with Dedede's situation, they're both still recognizable but it's clear that something isn't right. While "Sword of the Surviving Guardian" feels a bit more causal than the previous Meta Knight themes but at the same time it almost feels like it's more of a sparring match that's happening compared to the previous fights we've had with the mysterious knight.
Trivia Edit: By the way, both Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse have errors related to the sound test.
In the case of Kirby's Epic Yarn all of the Dream Land stage tracks claim to be from the original Kirby's Dream Land when in actuality it's only Green Greens and Bubbly Clouds that are from Kirby's Dream Land. Every other remix (minus King Dedede's theme and Meta Knight's battle theme which are considered original to Epic Yarn for some unexplained reason) are from other games. This was corrected in the British English version which clarifies that the remixes come from Kirby's previous adventures.
Meanwhile in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, King Dedede's theme is labeled as being a remix of the version from Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra when it's clearly based off of Kirby Mass Attack's version. This is not the only time this has happened.
In Kirby's Dream Buffet the file name for the King Dedede remix is labeled as being from Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble instead of Kirby's Mass Attack although the pitch was changed to match the Gameboy version of Dedede's theme. Perhaps whoever did the file naming was unaware of which game that specific remix came from due to the pitch being similar to the Gameboy versions.
Meta Knight is more of a harsh mentor than a real enemy to Kirby. A true enemy wouldn’t supply him with a weapon and all. This situation is obviously to let him grow even stronger to save the Waddle Dees.

In the amine, Amazing Mirror and this game (probably others), Meta Knight stopped being a villain or anti-hero and, yes, became more a mentor and ally to our young star warrior. Though I can't put it past him that MK wants to hone his skills against a tough opponent; one Galacta Knight springs to mind.
I've heard D-mind's theme is actually a version of Dark Mind's theme, though the two are quite similar.
I've never played a Kirby games, Forgotten Land is my first but when i heard the OST of this dude "wtf he's way too badass", so i come here to understand and..well.. now i see

It's worth noting that Dedede was never a villain in a mainline game of his own will after this. When D3 said that his grudge with kirby would be settled, he ment it.

It’s crazy how they got so much mileage out of a simple tune. So many memorable variants… and a few that may have missed the bar
I love Dedede tbh. When I was younger I used to dislike him. One of my friends liked him but I always preferred Meta Knight. We would always "fight" over who's better, having silly arguments and all. But as I grew older I somehow started to think I like Dedede better, and his theme really grew on me a lot more. I always liked it, but not that much in the end. Now it's my favorite Kirby song pretty much, and it's awesome to go down memory lane with this. Super nice, and I love Dedede now. He's my favorite grumpy penguin and his hammer is super neat.

I can tell it just got more and more intense as the series went on.
You gotta love when they take some obscure song (e.g. Dedede’s theme in Kirby’s Dream Course) and incorporate it into a different song (in this instance History of Dedede) and make it that much better. Hal is the master of not just reusing a song, but refurbishing it.
Hell, now that I think of it the same can be said of taking a PIECE of Triple Deluxe’s intro and making that into its own song for Dark Taranza.

Of all the Dedede themes, Kirby Super Star is my favorite, but _Roar of Dedede_ is a neck-and-neck second for sheer epic-ness.

I love how dedede's theme just evolves progressively
I like how Dedede is at first Kirby archnemesis in the earlier games but then becomes his friend (kinda) and now gets either possessed or manipulated by the main villain in later games
He usually only gets possessed in the games not as multiplayer optimized, as in those he is playable.
You forgot that one part in Forgotten Land.

There's a cutscene in which after you break Dedede free of the whole brainwashing thing, he saves a downed Waddle Dee from getting trampled and goes to hold off the Beast Pack while Kirby goes up the elevator to Lab Discovera. You hear a bit of Masked Dedede playing during that bit.

I love how a remix was made for rainbow curse... despite him not even being present in the game other than some random model
Rainbow Curse remixed a lot of Kirby tracks so it’s to be expected that his theme would show up somewhere.

He transcends expectations. All that can be expected of him is to be present in some form, and for his theme to go unbelievably hard.
When Star Allies added the new verse to Dedede's theme, I didn't quite enjoy it at first, after re-playing Star Allies many times I started enjoying it, but with the new Dedede's theme that KatFL added, I feel like without that new verse, the song couldn't exist
King Dedede is my favorite video game character (take that however you want) and his thems are literally always good. There literally is nothing bad about any themes for my boy.
When two themes are mixed together it’s always done soooooo well, as seen in King D-Mind and Wanning Masked Dedede/Waxing Meta Knight. I really hope they mix more boss themes in the future
My least favorite is definitely Canvas Curse with how arrhythmic it sounds. Star Stacker is similar but still has far more flow to it plus it served as the basis for Masked Dedede's theme so it gets bonus points for that by default.
canvas curse's ost is so fun it sounds harsh to you early on but then you start grooving with it's experimental nature
I mean I even have a big appreciation for the atmospheric value of "World of Drawcia" and that track is pretty freaky

Modern versions of "Mt. Dedede" are in the key of C minor, while the 8-bit ones are in D# minor.
Except Star Allies, which deliberately is in Eb minor because that game is throwback central.

Dang, there's a crap TON of renditions of this theme, and I'm only a quarter of the way through this vid! Just goes to show how iconic this theme is to the point where it's even used for tough bosses other than Dedede himself. It also feels like by the time Super Star was being made, they listened to the original version from the gameboy games and were like "This is good... but it could use a little extra something". And now, here we are.

@@Psydkik Taranza has 6 hands, I’m sure he’s coordinated enough to use 2 for the accordion and 2 for flying! I’m unsure what the last 2 will do, but I’m sure he’ll think of something!
Great video! It was worth all 52 minutes of my time! Also, just a warning, I think you missed “Dedede Battle” from Kirby 64, but you might have purposely left that one out anyway. It’s not a big deal though, just thought I’d mention! :)

Hal Laboratory are wild. Not only they make awesome and beautiful Games like Kirby they even make the Legendary Smash Bros series. The story's are always crazy and very good and the quality is even better. When I thought Star Allies and Super SMASH bros Brawl were good then I definitely changed my mind after Forgotten Land and Ultimate came out.

Ok, for dome reason, the Masked Dedede segment of the Dedede & Meta Knight Medley from the 25th Anniversary Orchestra sounds like something that would play in a cutscene from an official Kirby game. Pretty neat!

I wonder if they used Dedede's Dreamland and 64 design so that they could use his NPC model in Forgotten Land for remakes? Because it seems odd that they would suddenly go back to that particular design specifically for FL after all of these years.
I mean, they went back to the SNES Dedede in Return to Dreamland after being based off his anime appearance for so long. I wouldn’t be surprised if they like rotating designs for him simply because they can get away with.
They probably just felt like changing things up, but a Kirby 64 remake would be sick.

The game had an unused Kirby dance melody which means the game was meant to have the iconic Kirby dance.

Long live His Majesty the King. Also, Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu (aka Kirby's Super Star Stacker) is actually hella fun if you have a friend to play against. Shame it'll probably _never_ come to Switch Online outside Japan.

It’s really easy to forget how clean the models in the 3ds games were, since you don’t normally see them in anything higher than 360p, when you artificially scale the games up to a higher resolution you could tell someone who had never heard of these games before that they were switch games and they would totally buy it.
Dedede in epic yarn is so clever with puppet strings instead of just possession or mind control
