This becoming Meta Knight’s motif over, say, the main theme of his revenge is a wonderful touch to show how he grew from the story in Revenge of Meta Knight. By stopping his attempted usurpation Kirby showed him that Dreamland’s carefree lifestyle doesn’t need to end, and he’s chosen to embrace and fight for that. Kirby really does bring out the best of all his foes.
Meta Knight's Revenge is more associated with the Halberd, rather than Meta Knight himself. He's supposed to be a brooding, mysterious swordsman, so a smooth jazzy theme is more appropriate.
Mfw I get confused for so long because “Revenge of Meta Knight” is the theme that plays during the initial cutscene for the minigame and you are all talking about “Boarding the Halberd” and “Havoc Aboard the Halberd”
@@Yiron0 Smash doesn't help, because they called it "Revenge of Meta Knight." Though that theme is a medley of both Halberd themes, so it wouldn't be appropriate to just call it "Boarding the Halberd."
I remember being really confused hearing this as the main basis for the _Star Allies_ boss fight. I know it wasn’t completely without precedent considering its use in _Robobot,_ but I always interpreted that as being representative of the end of a chapter in MK’s journey (and the Tri-Dimensional cannon also opens with the _Halberd’s_ “take off/cutscene” theme and has elements of DDD’s normal theme in it, too, so I didn’t really know what to think of that one). Other than that, considering its use in both _Super Star_ and _Ultra_ (where it’s also the game over music for “Meta Knightmare Ultra”), I had always considered it the “Meta Knight failure” theme. So I was surprised to hear it in _Star Allies_ as opposed to, you know, his regular battle theme from _Super Star, Ultra, Epic Yarn,_ and _Robobot._ But then someone in the comments on one of the uploads of the _Star Allies_ theme posited this idea: this isn’t the “failure” theme for Meta Knight; this has become the theme of a Meta Knight who has learned from his mistakes and is moving forward. A Meta Knight who has grown from his previous defeats. Character development in leitmotif form? Only in _Kirby,_ folks. I love it. 💙⚔️
I think it's reflecting the changing dynamic between Meta Knight and Kirby, as well as what the story presents him as too. Meta Knight was a more mysterious and sinister figure in the earlier games, where he's presented as morally ambiguous and in possession of an unclear agenda, going so far to be the main antagonist in Revenge of Meta Knight. As such, he gets a menacing, fast-paced battle theme that keeps you on-edge. “My Friend and the Setting Sun” only plays after you've saved the day and is somber and introspective in tone, perhaps representative of a defeated Meta Knight rethinking his actions and concluding his plan to militarize Dreamland was flawed. This portrayal slowly got removed as the games progressed, so by the point of Star Allies Kirby, and we the audience as a whole, are familiar enough with Meta Knight to know that he has purely heroic intentions behind all his actions and therefore no longer need to be on guard whenever he appears. As such, he gets a battle theme that's badass, heroic but not menacing, because you know you're fighting a friend that you can trust. This is especially true in Forgotten Land; in that battle, there's no possession from an evil being, no ambiguous morals nor poorly-communicated goals, just two heroes and friends giving their all in a sparring match. (I also like to think that another reason his old battle theme was replaced was because Morpho Knight remixed that one, so they wanted to avoid giving Meta Knight a theme too similar to the Reborn Butterfly.)
That’d make sense also why he returns to his old slightly sinister (and banger) battle theme in Planet Robobot. Sure, he was brainwashed in Star Allies too, but it wasn’t as bad as Mecha Knight, he was mindless and merely controlled where in Star Allies there was enough of the old Meta Knight in him to at least give you a sword.
The reason why Above the Halberd and My Friend and the Setting Sun appears in Tri-Dimensional Cannon it's because it's a reference to the Combo Cannon bossfight. I got this idea from a comment.
My Grandparents got me into Kirby. They were fans. This theme always makes me miss them. Always get choked when I hear it. Until Forgotten Land theme came out. I feel more strength now. It's cool to have these themes give me 10x more feels because of this.
Interestingly, Meta Knight doesn't work alone, similar to King Dedede, Meta Knight basically has an army, there are common enemies and mid-bosses in the Kirby series that are basically most affiliated with Meta Knight, regular enemies like Blade Knight, Sword Knight, Heavy Knight, Gigant Edge, Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Trident Knight, Javelin Knight, Jungle Bomb, Birdon, Miasmoros, Wheelie, Grand Wheelie, Gim, Dubior, Wester, Bugzzy, Capsule J, Capsule J2, Capsule J3, etc.
Personally i think its because this is to show meta knights changed. Also small note i noticed. This theme only shows up in; the end where meta knight is reformed from evil, battles where you can befriend meta knight, or meta knight is an ally. Basically you never hear it when metaknight is "the bad guy". and to make it clear as to what i mean. Any instances where metaknight is the main antagonist or part of the main antagonists side is what i mean by the phrase "the bad guy" ... ... This note turned out to not be "small".😅
Alongside Milky Way Wishes ending theme, this is also my favourite (especially in Kirby Super Star Ultra). While Kirby Star Allies King Dedede’s theme is my favourite over Forgotten Land theme, this theme is the opposite as well. The King and the Sun is also very similar to this theme as well, while this theme is basically the true 'Meta Knight' theme for this series
Considering that My Friend & The Setting Sun is Meta Knight's theme song, I'm not surprised that it gets remixed so often, especially nowadays. That being said though, I don't consider this to be a bad thing; Kirby music is always great, after all.
I'm a lil' sad how FL's MK intro if you kick the sword away isn't as funny as SA's, it's literally just the same cutscene except Kirby dodges instead of parrying (unless Kirby already has Sword and kicks the sword away)

They could also do remixes of The King and the Setting Sun that would sound similar to this in future Kirby games for a fight against King Dedede wearing a Mask.
@DBStudios_2819, if they did remixes of My Friend and the Setting Sun during boss fights against Meta Knight, then they can do remixes of The King and the Setting Sun during boss fights against King Dedede wearing a mask, and the remixes of The King and the Setting Sun would sound identical to My Friend and the Setting Sun, since My Friend and the Setting Sun are The King and the Setting Sun are indentically similar-sounding tracks, it is fair that both should have remixes during a boss fight against Meta Knight and King Dedede wearing a mask.
it's funny that star allies meta knight is a remix of my friend and the setting sun, and forgotten land is a remix of star allies AND fighters 2 themes
From a warrior that wanted to make everyone as skilled and trained as him, to a guardian who fights so that others do not have to. The knight who serves noone, and who fights for everyone. The knight among knights. The Meta Knight.
I'm kinda obsessed with the way that the version in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is literally a straight remastering of the original song, with all the same instruments but no SNES/DS sound compression

I find it quite interesting that this theme is more referenced than Revenge of the Meta Knight in terms of Meta Knight's theme
Revenge of meta knigh is so much better, but this… just has some sort of energy to it the former doesn’t.
