I know I'm two years late, but Smash Ultimate was the first time the Blast-O-Matic was depicted firing on-screen. Back in its debut in Donkey Kong 64, the actual destruction of Donkey Kong Island was left up to players' imaginations because it could be too grim to depict and still get an E rating.
A whoole lot of love went into this character's reintroduction. The crown throw from the original Donkey Kong Country, all the characters jumping on his head (how you did damage to him in Country), Kaptain K. Rool from Diddy's Kong Quest, the helicopter backpack from Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, the Fortress Laser from DK64, as well as the boxing glove from DK64's amazing final boss fight AND that fire Gangplank Galleon remix. THIS is how you bring a villain back from the dead.

Alpineer Mega Man is a much more popular and iconic character than K Rool, and was a third party character people initially didn’t expect to have a chance. It was so hype at the time. I do really like K Rool too but Mega Man’s inclusion was really important

I've only played the first DKC on my GameBoy Color. I'm not even a fan of DK, but geez, I love this trailer. It gaves me goosebumps and I can feel all the love that has been put in it.
If you don't have the system you could probably emulate them, I don't know how though. DKC Returns is hard as hell but a lot of fun and tropical freeze is a must! DKC 2 is probably my least favorite, but they're all pretty good in my opinion.

Man, Nintendo has really stepped up their game with this reveal trailer. I remember I lost my mind and screamed in excitement / hype when my favorite character was announced. But man, time flies! It may have been one year since his reveal trailer, but we will never forget King K. Rool's Finest Hour! Edit: Well, here we are. Two years ago today, and K. Rool is still going strong!
They KNEW this reveal trailer was perfection, and whipped it out again for round two, and made the Banjo one even better. So much attention to detail. K. Rool has essentially been homeless for years, and lives with the kongs now, (putting all the rare characters together) and nintendo recognized the striking similarities between the duck hunt dog and banjo & kazooie. Beautiful.
He still has Gangplank Galleon and apparently he rebuilt Crocodile Isle so he still has a home and his crew. They just decided to have him chill with the Kongs like a "Go-Karting with Bowser" moment to establish Banjo's return since he's also a Rare character.
Anybody else get fan-shivers with that last charge/clash between DK and K. Rool? Like, legit, if the Donkey Kong Country TV series would’ve been like THAT, it would be held in the higher echelons of TV-dom.

Man, Nintendo has really stepped up their game with this reveal trailer. I don't think any other reveal was quite as enthralling as this one...maybe the Ridley reveal, but it's perfect that more villains/rivals are showing up in Smash 5. Also I'm glad he isn't an echo of Bowser or something silly like that.

They KNEW this reveal trailer was perfection, and whipped it out again for round two, and made the Banjo one even better. So much attention to detail.
K. Rool has essentially been homeless for years, and lives with the kongs now, (putting all the rare characters together) and nintendo recognized the striking similarities between the duck hunt dog and banjo & kazooie.

And then there is Dedede, the only member of the one species of animals that appeals to me as much as Diddy Kong. Of all of the non-Donkey Kong characters that had to appear in this trailer, it had to be a penguin! His belly is jiggly too, and he slaps it when his friend wins for him.
