Nice! You were exploring a somewhat risky area of Papeete. While it may not be the most ideal spot to visit, there’s a certain charm beneath the rough edges you captured in the video. Excellent content as always, Gabe!
Hi Gabe. The fruit is definitely mango and possibly Davidson Plum. The red flowering tree is a Poinciana. It seems very chilled there 😀 Looking forward to seeing some of the island interior. Cheers.
Looks like a typical small South Pacific Island town. Have been to Nadi and Suva in Fiji and Port Vila in Vanuatu and they are only stepping stones to the beautiful rain forests, beaches and other Islands. Papeete appears to be the same. I imagine it comes alive during the week. Still great to see. I hope you do get over to Moorea, that would be awesome. Cheers.🍷❤
Wowwww nice Beautiful Town Papeete in Tahiti Very Friendly People and Quiet place Town and Neighborhood I love th Goodvibes and Nature ot this place Thank u so much sir Gabe for your Wonderful Walk around tour video Godbless 🙏🙂👏 from the Philippines ♥️🇵🇭🙂🙏😊
Looks like you could do a day trip to Bora Bora for just over $300 US. You would have 6 or 7 hours there. Just a thought. My brother in law went there and did some hikes to gun emplacements left by the US in WW2.
On My first day on a Hawaiian Island, I drove out to the E side of the Island. Tried some cooked breadfruit (Uru/Ulu) and did not eat ANYTHING for 3 days. Not sick, but not sure what happened. The Story of how I lost 15 lbs on my first week in Hawaii.
Make sure to see the next video of Moorea, it was beautiful, a lot nicer than Tahiti. And yes I'm sure if you take a boat tour out to the reefs they're some of the best in the world. Apparently Bora Bora is even nicer than Moorea, so that's on my list to visit the next time.
Thanks for taking us off the beaten track with you, Gabriel. I stayed at the same boutique hotel, but I didn't get to explore outside the city center. Bon Voyage✈✈🧳🧳
Hi Gabriel, there's not much to do around town but at least you traveled around and know where not to go next time. Surprising because most main cities are the travel destinations for visiting aside from the beaches. In Tahiti, the beaches are the places you want to go, at least it's a relaxing town. Those were small mangoes in some areas you do find them larger.
School in French is ecole pronounced Ay-COLL, written like this: école First "e" has an accent aigu over it which means the "e" is sharpened a bit (aigu means sharp) . The "e" would normally be pronouned "eh" but the accent dictates that it is said like "ay"

29:60 Good translation you did of this signage, Gabriel. You are almost fluent in French, we can hear. Breadfruit gets its name from when its cooked, it smells and resembles bread. It can be baked, steamed, roasted, boiled and mashed like the white potato. it has a potato - like taste. The guy probably was offering you one to take home and cook. Captain William Bligh from 'Mutiny on the Bounty' is credited with bringing the Breadfruit trees in 1793 to St. Vincent and the Grenadines islands in the Caribbean. Breadfruit is very tasty and when ripe and yellow, they are even sweeter. Breadfruit was cheap food for the slaves working on sugar plantations.
I wonder if it Would be less awkward to use a baseball hat camera (like insta 360) when interacting with people? Maybe those cameras are not small enough yet. Ultra-small spy cameras are crap for vlogging in my experience.
It's funny how when you get to some places that are generally portrayed as extremely beautiful or "paradise" that when you actually go and visit and see it, it's disappointing.
@GabrielTravelerVideos no, it simply means there are no waiters, just like a cafeteria in the states. You pick up the items you want and the end of the line, there is a cashier;)
At McDonald's the ordering and paying is self serviced and I hate to figure out how to work the robot. And I hate self service cashiers on the supermarket because I don't have a credit card...
@ it’s a fruit punch soda sold in USA that’s produced by Dr Pepper / 7-Up. It’s like a budget beverage since it’s not a coke or pepsi drink but still pretty dang good when had at the right time
You uploaded this about 30 minutes ago, so it says but I am curious to know what is the time difference between Tahiti and Seattle, WA. I suppose I could look it up.
What I do when I vlog is I'm always holding an impossible-not-to-spot full mirrorless camera with a 24-105mm lens at a 60 degree angle so they know exactly what I'm doing. 99% of the time I get good reactions.
Am sure you will eventually get there, but I'd get the heck out of Papeete. Your first two videos aren't representative of the place at all. Way too urban! Maybe take the local bus around the island. There are many nice beach towns along the way. Moorea is nice too. Probably the best beaches I've ever seen.
You need to hire a car. Go up the valleys. Visit Teahupo'o. Climb the mountain on Bora Bora. Do the cross island walk on Mo'orea. Hire a bicycle on Huahine.
Never been to Tahiti, but I searched the internet: Ono’u is the Tahiti international graffiti festival. Edit: Reminder to self: Only comment after watching the full video. You found out yourself.
Dispensaire has nothing to do with dop😂 It simply means clinic. Lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi and dimanche are days of the week mon-sun.
1) Papeete looks like quite an island town. I do not see any taller buildings. Are there any? Does it remind you of Kaua'i and its towns? I looked up the weather in Kaua'i and in Papeete and the latter is TEN degrees warmer than HI. Guessing it is also much more humid as well. 2) Picky pronunciation point, from The Fussy One -- Papeete is pronounced: PAH-pay-AY-tay. It not pronounced: PAH-pah-ay-tay. The second syllable is "Pay" not Pah. 3) The local Polynesian language spoken in Tahiti is called Tahitian, just like the people are. 4) SHOCKED to hear from you that there are no beaches, there. Wow ... I could have sworn that beaches were all around the islands of that nation and that people would be hanging out at them. Oh, but then again there is this, too: Teahupo'o (called Cho-poo or Chopes) is a great surf spot on the southeast coast of the main island, that has a terrific surfing spot, with the most perfect waves in all the world! Surfers of excellent calibre flock to it to test their mettles. You can read about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teahupo%CA%BBo
The signage at this point (26:32), "Vous n'avez pas la priorité", simply means that you ain't got no right of way, Baby. Cars will not stop for you, automatically although I do wonder if they stop for Peds (pedestrians). One'd better hope they will if one's crossing a street, huh? Even I would need a French dictionary if I were a tourist over in Tahiti, because French folks the world over simply do NOT say stuff the same way they do in France. Man, the Montréal Québecers really mangle the lingo, and use entirely different expressions, as well! Even French people from France have a tough time understanding how they say stuff.
@UffeUlferts I heard on the video, but I mean they actually go there on vacation. Just because a country owns someplace does not mean the larger country always visits it.
And you say you are Canadian. You should know your days of the week in French ! Okay, I know you were just born in Canada and moved to USA when you were very young. All Canadians that go to elementary and high school learn French and have a limited French vocabulary.
This is not the main center of Papeete you should first do your home work and show the beautiful waterfront and surrounding and not the remote back streets.
Your rather dull video motivated me to check out Papeete using Google Maps and I think renting a car would have been your best choice. There seems to be plenty to see there but it's spread out. The Museum of Tahiti looks awesome and Charles Hall Museum looks cool. I remember reading his Mutiny On the Bounty trilogy inspiring me to join the Navy although I never got anywhere near Tahiti. A friend of mine who got busted out of Nuclear Power School for smoking pot got orders to a destroyer that visited all of those cool South Pacific islands. How was I to know that getting caught smoking pot was the path to the great adventure. I was a good boy and got rewarded with three years in the gloomy shipyard at rainy Bremerton, Washington while the Enterprise was being overhauled. Ugh. By the way, have you ever given thought to visiting Pitcairn Island, the island where the Bounty mutineers eventually settled? They have Google Maps ground view of Pitcairn and others have vlogged from there but your perspective would be interesting.
I don't understand why you don't do even the slightest amount of research about where to walk in the city before heading out. The video could have been so much more enjoyable if you had done that.
Well, after having to endure your insanely annoying intros, now we have to listen to you reading signs in French. You can't do it. Stick to anglais (English) s'il te plait.

That’s what I like about your videos. You see all sides of the areas that you go to at least the ones that are safe enough to see.
Oh, and I love seeing what you choose to eat, as well. Thank you for taking us along to wherever you go.
Great video! I enjoyed seeing the local or non-touristy areas of the city.
The rotten fruit you saw on the ground was mango azucar, popular in Colombia, where I am now. It tastes much better than regular mango.
Hey Gabriel...I really enjoyed your videos. Have fun!
Hi Gabe. The fruit is definitely mango and possibly Davidson Plum. The red flowering tree is a Poinciana. It seems very chilled there 😀 Looking forward to seeing some of the island interior. Cheers.

It sure is pretty there. -5 degrees here in NH 😢 Enjoy❤
Looking foward to Moorea I think those red flowering trees are called guanacaste trees. Hope you will find fabulous swimming spots in the next video
I have had interest in visiting this part of the world further. Supposed to have some of the most untouched reefs out on some of the remote islands

That Intersport caught me off guard. We have that here in the Netherlands but I guess it is a French chain.
It's a European chain based in Switzerland
Me too Intersport is also here in Nordic countries. Intersport is international corporation the head office is in Bern, Switzerland.
Intersport is pretty much everywhere. We have quite a few stores in Greece as well.
@spy967 fascinating
PS I love your shirt 😊
The answer is yes even if its not quite the paradise the name conjures up. Moorea and Bora Bora are much more beautiful!

Definitely go see moorea and the Tuamotu’s
Some parts of Papeete look a bit rough. It seems there are beaches further away from Papeete some look o.k for swimming.
Magasins are general stores of a sort.

Wtf ! I’m so sad seeing this. I always have imagined Tahiti o so so so beautiful
City is nothing special, but nature is beautiful. Every country and territory in the world is worth visiting.
The Rest of the Island, is of course more rural. The S End is amazing.
Breadfruit is awesome. Roast the entire fruit in a fire until it's charred and black, then pull it out cut thru and enjoy. Might be too plain for some but can always be dressed up w spice and sauces too. It is a strength giving superfood

Looks like a small city in Southeast Asia, especially in the Philippines. They also have breadfruit and the apple mango.
Strange dogs cannot be counted on to be friendly even if they seem that way. They are vocal and can turn on you, much like those monkeys in Bali.

Weird to see Intersport in Tahiti, we have it in Sweden too
Alimentation générale means simply grocery store.
Restaurant self=Restaurant self-service 😊
Okay, but a self service restaurant? So you cook the food yourself? Kind of beats the point of going to a restaurant.😛

The mural with he bear.. somebody was smoking some ganja to come up with that one 😂

Don't eat breadfruit off the tree unless it's very ripe. It's startchy and used more like a sweet potato. Makes great desserts.
Indeed, @darrylk808, blend ripe ulu with coconut milk, ginger and a little sugar, bake. So ono.
13:25, that is a mango tree.
Do you know who planted that tree
Please, answer the question. Who planted it?

It's a quiet town with not much to do, the rest of the island has beautiful hikes and beaches.

Yes, Moorea in the next video. ✌️

On Mediterranean islands, almost the entire coast is suitable for swimming, other than at ferry ports and cliffs.
Sometimes even the ferry ports are good spots for swimming, on the smaller islands where there aren't a lot of ships coming in.
