When the Duke of Edinburgh visited Victoria in 1985, the Premier John Cain had just successfully demanded the resignation of the Governor, Sir Brian Murray, following an uproar after the Governor had accepted free air travel to the United States. To distance the Duke from the drama, he was accommodated at the Hilton Hotel in Melbourne instead of at Government House.
