- Is there a better way we can manage our confidential data?
If you’re using Microsoft 365, then yes, there is. There is a security feature called ‘Sensitivity Labels’ what might just change the way you think about data security.
What is a sensitivity label?
Sensitivity labels are labels that you can setup in Microsoft 365 and apply them to documents, emails, Teams or entire sharepoint sites.
You can use them on all of the Office applications, you can make people within your organisation choose labels for specific files, or you can auto label certain files. The sky really is the limit.
Look at some examples of how you’d use a sensitive label in Microsoft 365 for your business.
- I create a Word document that is highly confidential. You might have a sensitivity label called Highly Confidential. Me, as the creator of that Word document can set a label on it. Only certain people can see it. Only certain people can change information on it. The document can expire at a certain day/time. I’m in control of my own private business data.
- You might have a sensitivity label called INTERNAL. If you write an email and you want the contents of that email to remain internal, then you could apply that label. The people in your business who received that email couldn’t forward it or copy/paste the information on it.
- You might have all of your private data inside of a SharePoint site. You could apply a label to the entire site called PRIVATE and that labels settings means that nobody can share any of the data with anyone external.
- You might need to share data with external people. You can set encryption settings so that the data is only available offline for a certain number of days. That is, after the data has actually left your organisation, you can still control access. That sounds like magic.
There are some examples of how sensitivity labels can dramatically help secure your business data.

Great video nicely explained. With E3 licenses, is it possible configuring confidential label to do not forward emails externally but can forward internally?

Good content - the editing is at times a little jarring. The small jumpcuts.
thank you very much sir , really useful tip
1. Sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 allow you to classify, encrypt, and control access to documents, emails, Teams, SharePoint sites to protect business data.
2. Labels can restrict document access to only certain people, prevent external sharing, expire access after a certain date, and add visible watermarks.
3. Auto-labeling can classify sensitive content like financial data to automatically apply protection.
4. Admins can require users to select a sensitivity label when they create content to force classification.
5. Labels help mitigate insider threats, user errors, and data theft by controlling access and markings based on content sensitivity. They strengthen permissions and data security.

Do we need Microsoft E5 for this or we can enable it on business basic also ?

Great tutorial, thank's for this. Unfortunately, there is no information on what kind of license You need to have to implement this settings in O365 tenant.
Hi, question about Sensitivity label. I created a word document and save it to my personal Icloud. I noticed that it still prompts me to apply label even I'm not saving it on my Office Onedrive. I'm using a device that is not managed by Intune. But may office account is using my company office 365 account.
Is it applied on office apps?
