PANNING. Panning is the best early night activity. Gets you nuggets, flint, and sling ammo. I always suggest building into your starter house a specific room for panning. (Small enough room that drifters won't spawn in.) Cooking is much less important than an early cellar. The simplest cellar is a 2 deep hole with a container in it that you then put a block on. Yes, you have to dig it out every time, but that's the cost of having food that actually lasts a bit. On cattails- they last indefinitely while raw. I suggest as you look for a place to settle, grab a stack of roots to store. Excellent tactic to survive your first winter.
@@TheVintarian thank god that the wolves are slower than player, otherwise the game would be ridiculously hard Maybe they will add creatures speed setting, with the Wilderness Survival making then faster
@@thomashiggins9320 and another tip: if a bear is chasing you, try running in tight spaces on jump on a mount - its fatass body will confuse its AI and it will eventually stop chasing you (hopefully)
when you find loose copper on the ground, mark the location on your map and come back later when you have a pickaxe, there is copper ore a few blocks down the ground
But *do not* pick up the chunks. They mark the spot you need to dig, precisely, and until you have the items needed to smelt the ore, it's just needless clutter in your limited storage. Leave the surface ore right where you found it, until you can actually *do something* more than stick it in a basket. 🙄
To add to your suggestion to use cattail roots as emergency food: Cattails are finite resources in your local area, so try to be a bit conservative with your cooking of them. You can also plant the cattail roots, by shift+right click on a soil block.
Yeah, I never eat cattail roots. Cattails are more useful as a renewable resource; it's faster to pick and eat berries; you get more berries per bush; and you don't need to cook the berries.
Another tip: ground storage. You can lean tools and weapons against a wall (ctrl+shift on the ground, some things need just one wall block to lean against, like an axe, a spear needs two), stack firewood on the floor, and put down lots of different items by shift-clicking the floor. Saves you precious storage space that is very limited in the beginning. Terra Preta isn't found in the world anymore as of 1.19, but can be crafted in later game. Instead you can find high quality soil, though medium soil is also sufficient.
First player, first session tip: Remember where you've build your shelter (using the map) and be back before dark! Just had a both very scary and very boring "black night" experience. :c)
Also, pick a high spot with limited access. It's a lot harder for bears and drifters to block you in if your shelter is at least four blocks up a hill. The best choice is a flat-topped hill (mesa).
Super super helpful! After willingly playing without any outside input for a few hours, this video is just what I needed when I start starving on day 4-6 and don't know what to do.
@@Dark__Thoughts actually you just need a clay bowl and a fresh water source (I think the developers are experimenting on making some water sources undrinkable) Find a small pond, rather than a huge lake
@@uncolored2060 I could only fill the bowl but not the pot. It's not an ocean, just a little pond where I made my first starter house. And I think the handbook said you need a bucket to move water, which required a saw IIRC and I'm just working on getting charcoal and my first copper tools. So far away from even thinking about an anvil and more advanced metalworking.
I would add panning to the list of things you can do to pass the night. It's not the most impressive thing, but you might get a few nuggets of copper that would be nice before you get your hammer and pick.
#1 You only need to break the blocks that are orthogonal to the tool head you're knapping, in your example video you're needlessly breaking the diagonal ones.
One useful tip with cattails, craft hand baskets with them. That'll give you enough inventory space to start with! That's like the first thing i always do, when playing!
tip: Carry a torch with you at ALL times they can light things on fire and are generally useful to have a light if u wanna take a peak in a cave or 2 plus torches will never go out in your hand unless u start swimming or it gets wet (rain doesn't count as wet)
This is a "clone" game, but in a GOOD way! Just like how "Wildfrost" innovated on the idea that "Slay the Spire" set, this game does the same with "Minecraft".
most games like this are not considered "clones" of Minecraft, it's just the same genre, voxel. Minecraft is just the most mainstream game in this genre, that everyone overly compares everything too. Personally there aren't enough games like this one that are genuinely unique and not clones of Minecraft.
Technically it is a clone of a MC mod called TerraFirmaCraft, or even its modpack TerraFirmaPunk to an extend, as it has some other MC mod influences as well. A lot of its main mechanics are straight out of TFC though.
This game is cool in theory but it needs to be optimised better and that damn blocky terrain is a bitch to traverse. They should update this game with terrain smoothing like in 7 days to die or Rising world.
Guys should i buy this game? I just started on my first job and i'm very unsure on if i should buy it or not. How much was it worth it for those who bought it ?
Tip 11: do NOT download mods until you've gotten at least a little familiar with vanilla survival. Mods make things fun, sure, but they also add complexity to an already complex game.

Also, another good tip: avoid forests if possible - bears got much more common recently and the wolves were always a problem.
This is great info. They are super deadly and best avoided at all costs.

Early game, definitely avoid thick forests.
Unfortunately, at some point you'll need a lot of wood, and honey bee hives are found in trees.

Make a cellar to make your food last longer! Even a 1x1x1 space with a storage vessel or a basket works, just cover it up with soil or straw.
for a channel with only 27 subs I was expecting a hot mic. Very good quality and great tips. Keep it up man.
I appreciate that! We just got started. Glad you found them helpful!
Damn , just now i realized the channel has llke 100 something subscribers, with this Quality in production i was expecting at least 10k, its amazing
Thank you!!

Great video. Love this game!
been playing an artic challenge and i hate seeing you get 9 redmeat from on creature, the best i get for redmeat is bunny's and they give at most 2
