After watching your RUclips video, I decided to purchase for use in my own 4Runner. I couldn't find it online anywhere. REI's site simply displayed "this product is not available." Called REI to see if had been discontinued. The sales person didn't think so, but couldn't find it in their system either. She offered to walk around the store to see if she could find one & she did! Drove straight to the store & purchased it using 1/2 price sale for REI members. While there saw another one still in the box. Another salesman told me I was lucky as there were only a couple more available in all of USA. Very high temps in PNW this weekend and it occurred to me I could easily carry it down to my basement and quickly set it up to sleep tonight where it's much cooler. For the sake of others, I really hope REI hasn't discontinued.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It looks like the cot is no longer listed on the REI website. People might get lucky if they ask for staff to look for it in the back of the store.
@@DQ-su6qf I'm just messing with you. I live in the area, Brownsville and let's just say Californians aren't that popular here lol. I'd keep that on the DL

@@KingSolrac thank you! No new updates, still using it for solo camping. I do find that people return the for to REI so you can snag one at a decent deal if you check!

Equally as impressive as this cot is the info about your vehicle. my next purchase will be made with turning it into a camper, so this is very helpful. I'm short, so can sleep easily on the 'floor' of my Escape right now, once it's unloaded at a campsite. But this cot allows for the bed to be in place, and plenty storage underneath. What I need are screens that allow me to keep all the windows open and the bugs out.
What I didn't showcase was some netting I bought from Amazon. They're great for cracking the window to get airflow and reduce condensation not to mention keep mosquitoes out. I also bought a USB lamp/mosquito zapper from Costco and it just works wonders for pesky bugs that sneak inside. Came in handy in Yosemite!!!
I have been considering getting this cot for my 4th Gen 4Runner for a while, great video showing how it fits. I am also 5'10", so it seems like a good setup. How is the cot holding up after 3 years?
It might just work out for you. If it's not on display at REI, ask if they have it in the back, if they don't see if they can order it to the store for you.
I bought one of these cots for my similar model 4Runner and used it last week for the first time. One issue that I did not see described in your video: because the center legs are up, I would turn over at night and find my cot starting to collapse because of the lack of support under the center of the cot away from the wheel well. I think I'm going to have to custom make a support for that side of the center of the cot. Has that been an issue for you?
@@RichieValentine 5'11" in height. Came back from the trip weighing in at 168. I also notice, however, that my cot seems to have a lot more tension than yours. You show a scene where you are sitting in the driver's seat and easily move the foot end of the cot to show space under the cot. My cot has a lot of tension and basically springs up. So it could have something to do with that. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't have some kind of support and I missed it in the video. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@bennington200 hmm. It shouldn't be that way. You're right around my dimensions. I would trouble shoot it a bit more and really tighten down the knobs on the side and give it another shot.
Great question, I'm not quite sure. I'm going to say no, because the cot already takes up slightly more space on one side. Notice the side I laid down, it's 1.5 seats.
I have one and find it to be too soft...as in not enough support. I toss and turn all night because my hips are KILLING me...no, I do not have hip issues. Has anyone stiffened a cot like this? Plywood would work...but how do you secure it to the bottom of the cot?
I absolutely love it. I recently went to Yosemite, car camped, and currently I'm in the Alvord desert. I'll new set up walk through in a new video soon.
If you were okay having it in center of vehicle would you be able to put the middle legs down? Also… it appears your head is at a decline. Any way to avoid that ?
I probably could center it if I folded down the passenger seat that is behind the driver. That would allow for the middle legs to fold down. As far as the sloping, that's just how my truck is. Other vehicles are flatter.
Did you check online or in stores or both? My Rei did not have it on display but had it in the back storage. Wonder if they could do a store search for you at a different REI

Perfect for the minimalist car camper. Thanks for posting this video. Easy to convert this back to a daily driver.
I can't deal with wooden framed sleeping platforms.
Yes, ….we at Toyota will soon offer this cot with a Toyota logo, for four times the cost, for that authentic Toyota “feel”.
Watched this. Wanted to let you and everyone know, a Coleman cot works just as well with an added Coleman pad. Safe travels y'all!

I's sure it wouldn't be too difficult to rig some of leg extension on the head end to level the cot
Definitely. It doesn't bother me, I enjoy the slight decline. Jockowillink mentions elevating your legs for power naps which is pretty cool.

With how much the drivers seat would have to move forward, I don't think it would work out too well.
