I love these videos of console installations. Some of tech heads really enjoy looking at the process of connecting everything to the console, including outboard gear routing. It also gives us ideas of future routings that we might do. Something about watching sound travel gets me STARTED!

Fascinating indeed guys. Really interested in your journey especially with the Origin.
I’m doing similar but in a smaller fashion lower end system.
I have a Mackie 32 x 8 routing to a Tascam MSR 24, via direct outs to the Clarett 8 pre and Octo pre with adat. Using master bus main inserts for outboard Warm audio comps and Kark Teknik eq’s.
Also just bought 2 x SSL UF 8’s and the UC 1 which I’m finding interesting.
I’m always looking at different ways of hooking things up with both daw and my analog desk and tape gear etc, and find watching you guys so interesting.
Also looking at acquiring the Fusion for my master bus which I am sure will up my anti a 1000 fold.
I envy you so much being an owner of the Origin.
Thank you for taking the time for sharing your great hybrid system, fascinating indeed
    Jon

    Really enjoying your “SSL” journey.
I had my Switchcraft patchbays about the same level in my racks while I figured out my routing.
I’ve since moved them to arm height now while seated.
Trust me, higher is better and much easier on an old back.

Wow-- I learned one big fact from this video. I had no idea that the AWS boards don't have motorized faders and bases it on software recall. I can completely understand why you went with the Origin and grabbed the UF8/ UC1 controllers instead of going with the AWS Delta consoles. I had a long term goal to purchasing one of the AWS consoles. Now I am not so sure. The Origin is looking like a much better ROI now. Fascinating and very informative videos. I am really enjoying watching your process of getting your SSL based studio set up. Thanks gents!

    • @MixingMusicAnalog
      @MixingMusicAnalog  3 года назад +1

Actually, I do think the AWS does have motorized faders but the recall on the EQ/compression, panning and such still need to be physically touched. Those are not digitally controlled. You may want to double check their website. Also, keep in mind that the AWS is literally double the cost of the Origin starting at over $100K. To me, having motorized faders is not worth the extra $50K. I don't do that may recalls so to manually recall the board takes about 15 mins. I will be doing videos on that in the near future.

Highly suggest looking at the back of the Origin’s Manual (well Any SSL really) because it has SSL’s recommendations for setting up patchbays with their console.
SSL long ago went with an ALL DB-25 system (which I 100% agree with) that moves essentially All I/O over to the user’s remote patch panel, with no reason for ever going behind or moving the desk once it’s installed. (I believe they used to even sell the patchbays all properly organized and labeled by SSL. A few Commercial Studios here in LA had identical setups that I assumed came from SSL, but as I think about it, whomever sold and installed the boards could have done it as well.)
Knowing what SSL intended is always a good start.
They’re using 6-total Patchbays to give I/O access to the entire board on an individual points by-point basis, and geared toward (Normalled for) Recording (as opposed to Mixing).
That said, I prefer what I call “Double Stacked” Patchbays.
You guys noted “Outs” over “Ins” on a single Patchbay. 96-points, 2 Rows of 48.
Well on a Double Stack (2 separate patchbays wired as 1) there are now 4-rows of 48-points.
    I label them Bay 1, Row A,B,C,D. Bay 2, Row A,B,C,D. Etc.
    In a Mixing Setup,
(Bay-1/Row-A) 1-32 DAW Interface Outputs. 33-48 SSL Bus Outputs 1-16
(Bay-1/Row-B) 1-32 SSL Line (or Monitor) Inputs. 33-48 SSL Stereo Group Inputs A-H
(Bay-1/Row-C) 1-32 SSL Direct Outputs. 33-48 SSL Stereo Group Outputs A-H
    (Bay-1/Row-D) 1-32 DAW Interface Inputs. 33-48 DAW “STEM-Print” Inputs A-H
(Bay-2/Row-A) 1-32 SSL Channel Insert Sends. 33-48 SSL Bus Outputs 1-16
(Bay-2/Row-B) 1-32 Outboard Ins (User Preferred). 33-48 SSL Stereo Group Inputs A-H
(Bay-2/Row-C) 1-32 Outboard Outs (User Preferred). 33-48 SSL Stereo Group Outputs A-H
    (Bay-2/Row-D) 1-32 SSL Channel Insert Returns. 33-48 DAW “STEM-Print” Inputs A-H
(Okay to be continued…. I just got back from a month in Greece a few hours ago and decided to watch this, the started typing like an idiot. I’ll edit and expand and explain later. But the purpose is to have Total Flexibility, and simultaneously have the Ultimate Normalled system without using a single patch cable. I came up when the Patch Panel was the Central Nervous System of every Studio. Even with DAW Routing, I believe it still is, and with Hybrid possibly even More so.)

I agree with you to a point, but I do like to track through hardware though. Track through hardware, mix in the box, and then master through hardware. That's my ultimate goal. I'm just about done with my custom vocal/Di channel strip. Once that's done I'm going to grab a mastering Pultec (500 series from IGS), and a 500 series buss compressor from IGS as well.
