I'm about to rant a bit, don't take it too seriously. Most states luckily don't require you to apply to own one or give a reason. If you buy it at a store there's unfortunately a background check, but in most states if you buy it privately you don't need a background check. Background checks are basically just another way for the government to find out who owns what gun, so they can attempt to disarm people at some point in the future, hence why we are against background checks and registries. The point of the Second Amendment is not hunting or sports shooting, because it literally says "being necessary to the security of a free state" in the text of 2A. It is about keeping a free country secure, in other words, citizens ought to be armed so that the government can't screw with their rights and put them on a train and ship them to a concentration camp. The Declaration of Independence also states that "...whenever a government becomes destructive to these ends (individual rights), it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it." The Second Amendment's entire purpose for existing is so that civilians can own weapons that allows them to challenge their government, which is why AR15s and 50cals are protected. If anything, you might be able to argue that hunting and sports shooting rifles might be able to be banned, because they don't serve a military purpose and are therefore can't be used to resist a tyrannical government, but one can absolutely NOT argue that AR15s and 50 cals aren't protected by the Second Amendment. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
@@94nolo The cartels wouldn't spend the money for these things when they could just get like 10 toyotas. 9mm protection is not worth anything, police have ar-15s for a reason. But it's not like they're marching armed convoys through the U.S. anyway so it's irrelevant.
