Makes sense, half if not the vast majority of the people subscribed likely don’t even have a Steam Deck or other stuff like it and instead just watch the channel for the sake of watching cool tech videos, like how most of the Binging with Babish watchers watch his cooking vids while eating old take-out. So it’s not unlikely that most of these people are suggesting awful ideas simply because they don’t have a Steam deck to confirm that no, it is genuinely not a good idea and the source they got it from was idiotic.

I got the Sabrent 2TB from Amazon. It took about 2 weeks to arrive, but it was very expensive due to tariffs as I'm from Europe. Having 2TB SSD plus 1TB sdcard is awesome. I haven't even filled up the whole storage yet.
I also bought the Gulikit joysticks and they are nice. Be careful to buy the newer version. The older version requires soldering a wire, and it doesn't have the AB switch: it only works on version A. And regarding the versions A and B: if you select the wrong one, the only feature that won't work is the ability of the joystick to detect when you touch the top of the joystick. So be careful if it *appears* to work fine. Besides being unaffected by drift, the new joysticks can reduce the "dead zone" to almost zero. The dead zone has to be reduced in the settings, but it's quite easy, and can be done in the GUI without the need to go to the desktop mode.
I also bought the Jsaux backplate crystal version. It looks very cool, and improves the thermals. It achieves that by having a metal plate that gets very hot, but it doesn't bother me.
I agree changing the front cover is definitely not worth it, so I didn't do it either. A lot of work and big risk of damages and imperfections. Don't do it unless you are obsessed about aesthetics and you are trying to turn your Deck into an art piece or something.
I also got the Jsaux mod case. I quite like it, although it will make the metal plate dissipate less heat, worsening thermal performance by a bit.
I believe there's really no other mod worth doing, and if you get all of this stuff you'll be totally fine until the Deck 2.

The trackpads are extremely useful provided you know how to customize them. I use them for virtual menus in emulators or games with extra keyboard commands that a standard gamepad can't use. Also, the reason the left trackpad wasn't working consistently in the main menu is because it's not set to swipe gestures for navigating. It's set to dpad mode which means you click down in the direction you want to navigate. Your swiping was sometimes putting enough pressure to activate it.

  • @GumikoVT
    @GumikoVT Год назад +22

The left touchpad works like a dpad in the ui. Pushing down on the top/left/bottom/right of the touchpad is what your supposed to do in the menu. I would guess what's happening while your swiping is sometimes you push one side of the pad down while swiping. The touchpads are really useful for games that don't have gamepad support. I would recommend trying something like roller coaster tycoon 2 or an rts game with the touchpads.

The "2230" form factor is actually derived from its physical dimensions. It's 22mm wide and 30mm long. The most common form factor for M.2 drives is "2280", which is--you've guessed it--22mm wide and 80mm long.
Other admissible lengths are 42mm, 60mm, and 110mm. There's also other admissible widths besides 22mm, which are 12mm, 16mm, and 30mm. I'll let you infer what the form factors for any combination of these would be called ;)
No, this will not be on the exam :P
Bonus Factoid: The connector is only rated for ~60x plug/unplug operations, so you should probably avoid needlessly unplugging those drives.

15:10 "The Steam Deck's useless, just, worthless touchpads" Blasphemy. They are incredibly useful, plus they make the desktop mode (or any mouse-operated application like Yuzu or any 4X games) usable, and are pretty nice in FPS's if you get your settings tuned in well. Also they have haptics, and the default steam navigation mode makes it act like a d-pad where you press it (until the haptics click) to move around, not swipe. In games with mouse control though (including shooters), they're tuned to feel like trackballs with momentum and everything which, combined with the gryo, is surprisingly very nice once you get used to it. If you play splatoon, the gyro makes it handle like that but with a (faster, more mouse-like) trackpad instead of a stick.
All of that could be said about the Steam Controller too which had the trackpads in a more comfortable location. Valve pls, Steam Controller 2 with all of the Steam Deck inputs and a better trackpad location

You complain about the touchpads - yet you don’t know how to use them properly. They’re fantastic, please learn their function before you shit on them. It’s the reason I got the deck over the ROG
You act like desktop mode is an inconvenience. Valve touts that this is a full PC. Of course you have features in Desktop that you can’t access in Game Mode. Game mode is fine for normal users who won’t do things like this. Desktop is for people who are into tinkering and getting things that shouldn’t work, working.
Additionally you mention that the sticks are off center. Both the Amazon posting and the website for the stick tells you to calibrate them with the button on the bottom with the calibration screen open. Prior to sealing the unit.

Sincerely I had a really tough time with it and it had nothing to do with the physical swap but everything to do with trying to get the data onto a thumbdrive and train SSD with that specific operating system. At one point after three late nights of working on it it actually started to install the new OS automatically. It was as though I had a mystical non-physical helping hand at the end of my extremely difficult process. I'm definitely not new to tinkering and this SSD swap was completely beguiling befuddling and ridiculously difficult for no apparent reason.

make sure u clean the glue goop like they tell you😂 that way u wont have a screen sticking out.. its kinda common sense.. mine is 100 flush.
use plastic thin cards to pry the screen. heat it up and the just use the suction cup to hold the screen. u dont need to bend thr screen.
the track pads if u customize us hard asf.. it was the worat part for me being weak but also my screws strupped and ya.. had to literally fil3 down the screws for hours ..
as for thr motherboard part, follow jsaux for disassmebly u dont have to tear everything apart. then follow exteme when putting it back.
u wont have any problems if u take ur time and follow the instructions.
ive never done this and it wasnt hard. it took long because the facrory workers screwed things so tight things got stripped:(
one last tip is make sure track pad isnt screwed tight that messes sensitivity and joy sticks .

the only controller that exists like that is the NES controller, but obviously the drawback there is no analog stick. I would recommend a shell swap or the HORI Dpad controller. If you want a rubber dome based controller then the split pad compact is also comfortable.

But I want to thank you for saving me $30, being the voice of reason when I have absolutely no need to put these in when there's a chance I'll actually be getting a completely brand new Deck back.
Now the only ledge I need talking off of, is the thermal pad swap 🤔 a couple games I play lately do make the Deck noticeably hot, like Robo Quest and Satisfactory. Not dangerous levels, I know the Deck would shut down if so, but I'd still like to drop a few degrees if I can.
Have you any thoughts on the thermal mod? Tell me how unnecessary it is, my wallet begs you. However, if I can go down 2-3 degrees Celsius, it kinda feels worth the $15, no? I have no idea anymore.

If anything ever goes wrong with your Deck, and you wanted to RMA, you'd have to revert the entire mod back to the original. Or sacrifice your whole transparent shell. It's either a waste of money or time, if that were to be the case. With my luck, I see that happening to me, so I've held off. This isn't a factor if your warranty is already voided though.
