I remember this part, and I remember the fear and panic I had when he had all those spike plates pointed straight at my face, I was not very good at portal 2 so my mind was racing, I genuinely felt threatened by this part, the mixture of the visual of giant spike plates pointed right at your face coupled with the onimous music really made me feel like I was Chell for a moment.

2:14 I can never replay this game again for the first time but this little musical sync with the gameplay utterly blew my mind and threw me right into the moment. My heart was racing playing through this scene the first time, a moment in my video game career I'll never forget.
Same here, the sync up between the song and that music for that moment was just, ugh, so good! Damn it I wish valve made more games, when they make a proper game, they really do an amazing job.

Ahh! I love how around 0:45 you can hear bits of both "Wheatley Science" and "I AM NOT A MORON" and I just swoon at subtle snippets of other pieces fit into a later one! This is one of my favorite OSTs, definitely.

It is actually very fitting with what wheatley does with aperture, just like the song he just combines things together to make new things. Like what he did with the Franken turrets, the test chambers, and even with the crushers he made that are shown in the part where he kills you.

it's amazing how well this game finds clever ways for wheatley and glados to try and kill you, after all, the aperture science facility was never actually primarily made to kill humans. In this scene, i felt genuinely threatened by wheatleys "moronic" way of trying to kill the player (reffering to the conversion gel). Even on that catwalk right behind him, i still felt threatened, cause i knew the game would have some clever way to catch me off guard. Very few games are able to enduce that feeling of panic in me. But when the music is added into the mix, this scene and the parts right after genuinely feel like i'm saving the world from nuclear war or something (which i kinda am considering when a nuclear explosion goes off in michigan everyone would think the US was attacked, thus stopping wheatley literally prevents nuclear war)
The game takes place at least a few decades after half-life 3 (if it comes out). If the nuclear explosion did happen, whoever still exists (and may have advanced tech and plenty of resources that the combine dug out for them) will be more like “why did Chernobyl happen there just now?”

TBH, even if it exploded in Michigan, by this point in the timeline most of humanity is either dead or dispersed, so there probably wouldn't be anyone with the knowledge or authority to launch nukes

Portal is a gem when it comes to electronic music. And I love electronic music.
The soundtrack change when you get thrown towards the platform with spikes pointing at you has alarms blaring, in what I interpret to be Wheatley's "heartbeat". It starts slow and steady, indicating how calm Wheatley was when he was about to kill you, confident he had already won. However, when you escape his trap, the alarms start blaring. The alarms start firing faster and faster, indicating his panic when you escape, genuinely thinking he had you cornered. Obviously, it's just a change in pace to get the player hyped but I thought that was neat
