Can we just appreciate how they programmed the music to skip to the drop right as you jump through the portal? It really makes your escape feel amazing.
The game has a lot of moments where the music changes depending on where you are. Just shows the attention to detail the game has.
It's called invisible sound design. There are a lot of parts in the game where the music changes as you do interactions

I love the placement of the portal in this so much. It forces you to watch the steel plates slam into the platform as if it were a cutscene without actually locking you out. It’s entirely cinematic but you never lose control
Absolutely, so often this happens in valve games and it’s never by accident. So much thought goes into this, and just like VFX on tv and movies if most people don’t even realise then that means they did a great job.
Still to this day this is one of my favourite jokes ever, the execution is on point.
The icing on the cake is the Music name and Achievement.

What gave it away?
People who replay the game after years of waiting for another portal-related game to come out: Isn't this the part where he kills us?
You can just feel how much fun the dev team probably had while making this.
If you go back when he asks you too he says "Wow I wasn't planning on this. Could you just jump down that pit there?" And if you do he says "Oh WOW didn't think that would work!"

I love this scene.
It is better with the achievement because it pops up and writes it with huge letters and gives that so satisfying sound of "you won something you will never use in your life"
I didn't find it that funny until I got the "The part where he kills you" achievement.
I love the detail of the map being stupidly simple and crudely put together because Wheatley made it from scratch
If you actually come back when he says "come back" then you get a unique dialogue interaction.
You get an achievement for jumping into the pit
When I played this for the first time, the part where he killed me killed me on the first try.

I liked the part where he kills me.
This gets even funnier if you listen to him when tells you to jump. He is genuinely surprised you feel for it. You get an achievement for it. Or hell his reaction for when you return when he asks you come back. This game is hilarious.
Almost as good is what happens if you actually go back when Wheatley asks you nicely to come back.
This is one of my favorite parts in portal 2. The parts where go behind the test chamber are portals strongest aspects because you are using the portal gun in a practical setting. There is no cubes and buttons only escape. I wish there was a full game of going behind aperture with the portal gun or alternately a game that uses the portal gun practically like this
The entire underground section is decimated to that. That’s the most explorative this series has ever gotten.
Portal 1's second half of the game is literally that.
The fact when GLaDOS says: THIS IS THE PART WHERE HE KILLS US. And the sentence pops up makes it even funnier

Fun fact: the thing that flings you into chapter 9 is actually a beta faith plate, and it's bounce animation doesn't work because it was removed from the game
The timing of this is a little off on modern hardware, because when the game was released people generally didn't have super fast Internet connections. So you'd get the achievement notice and audible chime a moment or two after the chapter title appeared as a perfectly timed continuation of the joke.
