Bucket of water is the best weapon, pour it on flat land and push any mob back. Its even more a treat with depth strider boots to gain advantage in maneuverability

I've noted that the only way to win is to immediately build a dirt tower at spawn. There is no other way.
I’ve been playing since beta and oddly enough all them years ago that was the advice my friend gave me, first day, build a big tower back to spawn
And honestly if your not using cords and back when the world looked more the same everywhere it was a good bit of advice

@justrosiep5904 beacons, in put in a 3x3 block of iron/diamond/(emerald?) Will let you have a status buff (depending on the size of the ore block temple) you can have infinite haste, speed, regeneration (in a certain radius). It's pretty useful

I'm kind of ashamed but proud that as I child I used to play like the Mojang guides unironically, Pillar at spawnpoint was a must, crafting a bed instantly, getting full diamond before nether, building a shelter around the portal, etc.
i also had the guides, but they were much older versions that ended at "the horse update" from 2013. even then I mostly used it for help with remembering the manual grid recipes that were exclusive to the pc version and absent from console and pocket editions (which used a simpler recipe book style system, similar to terraria), as an alternative to having the wiki open in my browser or on another device
