I bought a used 6505+ today and everything seemed fine when I tried it out. I mostly tried the lead channel which is what I play only in my band and I just checked that the clean channel was working. But when I got home and started tweaking I noticed that the clean channel did not give any volume except maybe a 1 on the volume knob. I could turn it all the way up and hearing only minimum increase in volume (no I was not turning the pre-gain). After all, my lead channel works perfectly but then I discovered something I don't know how. I think I turned the amp off and removed all my pedals and just tried the direct input of my guitar and started it in the clean channel. Then suddenly the volume was back to normal and went to really loud, but I still couldn't get the "bright" and "crunch" switches to produce anything different. Now when I tried to switch to my lead channel all the distortion was blocked and the sound was also very diminished like before. So I turned it off again, plugged in all my pedals and started it in the lead channel this time and again it was back to only working as it should on lead channel and very low volume on the cleans when switching. Sorry for any grammatical errors, I just hope I cant get some help to understand this. It will be very annoying to play clean riffs that won't be hearable with the rest of the band.
Ive always liked Marshalls and Mesa Boogies for years, they were the standard for quality amplifiers for me. Ive always knew about Peavey and 5150 1 and 2 and the subsequent supplement of them with the 6505 and 6505 +. I never understood why people liked these amps so much. And then metal players only playing them made me only associate the amps with like inarticulate muddied distortion. But I gotta say im coming around now. And to know not only the channels but the crunch option on the rhythm channel is Footswitchable, that makes a biggggg difference.
I got this amp because everyone was using them and their albums and live sounded great. Well I got the amp and hated how muddy it was. I changed the power tubes to a different brand, did the bias mod so I could adjust the power tubes to my liking. Then I tried a few different brand pre amp tubes and all of that muddy ness was gone. The crunch channel can get some pretty thick cleaner distortion tones that I couldn’t believe! It’s a great amp but I will say it’s very touchy if you don’t have it set exactly where you want it the amp will sound very different some people don’t agree but I am a tone chaser so I notice the smallest differences. It took me a while to get it to my perfect tone which I could only say it’s a mixture of a Mesa and a Marshall. It also needs to be cranked up a bit if you want it to sound best not so great if your playing it quietly
Lead sound sounds like a half cocked wah pedal, I could not stand it and returned to the store.People complain about clean sound of this amp,but I tried accoustic simulator pedal through the clean channal ,and it sounded awesome.
You don't need to waste your time expressing your dislike for Eddie and his playing, you could have just asked your question and left it be, please control your urge to insult and don't take this personally, but that is bullsh*t
Ryan Lane I agree, E V H is one of the greatest hard rock and metal guitarist. That fool doesn't know how to explain himself, all he had to say is I can't stand Eddie Van Halen but his guitar playing is great and maybe I could agree with him. To me E V H is just great musically and performance wise just saying bro.
I saw Richie Castellano live with Blue Oyster Cult. Amazing musician.
I see why boc wanted him!
Wow so cool for you! Thanks for having to let everyone know that bit of pointless information!

I wish you guys still sold this amp new.
Put an mxr 10 band eq pedal in the effects loop, it’s unreal power

You’re wrong both channels are perfect
expressyourselfist i was going to bitch at you, looks like i already did
so is the combo amp the 120 head have the same tone or not. i mean the bright switch helps. brights up the tone
Sounds bad ass.
+Nikki Stitch no the combo is a 60watt version
Evh is the best!
Why is the bass on 10 on the lead channel? Lol
Because it doesn't have an 11.
Man, clean sucks so bad, lead outstanding.
man needs to relax on the lows lmao sounds like shit. I feel like he's memeing though
Sorry, but i prefer Marshal with valves
The 6505 and 6505+ have valves.
Osvaldir Marques Fatia Yeah, the peavy is an all tube head, which is, what i'm guessing, you meant by valves.
Tubes = north america... Valve = british
I hate EVH and his playing, or that type of music but how is the 6505 or the 6534 for standard pop, rock and hard rock?

EVH=G.O.A.T.
