    Hello! Big problem with my Fenix8AMOLED: I bought the watch for running but since I'm also a scuba diver, I took it for a test. After 3 dives between 90 and 120ft with no deco, the watch started to bug and then turned off for good. Garmin sent me a new watch and... after 3 or 4 dives in the same pressure zone with deco, the watch started to bug just like the first one. I'm glad I have my MARES dive computer, what is wrong with the FENIX8 waterproof??

      Hey Eric, thank you for sharing that with the Active Ideas community! You're not the first person ive read to have serious problems with the Garmin Fenix 8 during diving even after some of the updates. It's a shame the software is this unreliable and tbh.. as far as diving is concerned.. a genuine safety concern.

    Does anyone happen to know if this fix is still thanks to a Beta firmware upgrade or has it been implemented in standard updates since? The reason I ask is because I've read that Garmin disables dive modes if you're running beta firmware.

      You legend ❤️ Diving still works and most of the cold exposure features have been fixed.. I no longer experience complete shut downs or restarts but the watch still definitely slows down drastically to the print where scrolling through data screens or even trying to pause a workout doesn’t work. It’s cold in the UK at the moment and the Fenix 8 is still showing weaknesses

      You bring up a great point! I actually tested out the dive function too.. it’s working. Unlike many reviewers I’m using public software and not “special” beta software.. in beta software the dive function is disabled for safety reasons. I’m happy to confirm that on public software this cold water plunge bug is fixed AND diving is working 🔥

      I have a fully in depth Suunto Ocean video coming in about 2-3 weeks. I’ve been testing it since launch .. it’s great.. has a lovely weight to it and battery life is supreme. No crazy software bugs on it either 👍🏽 Many people didn’t like that it didn’t have a compass 🧭 feature during diving like the D5 but this has recently been added. If you can find a deal on it, it’s definitely worth considering

    Hi, have you had any experience with the depth gauge and water temperature measurement while the watch was on your wrist? Are they accurate (or very close to accurate)? Or is the water temperature measurement affected by body heat?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 месяца назад +1

      Both the depth sensor on the Fenix 8 and the water temperature sensor are super accurate. The Fenix 8 has gone through strict independent testing in order to get certified for recreational diving. An insane level of accuracy is needed to achieve this! 🌟
      As for the temperature sensor.. body heat will affect measurements outside of water. But from my testing within water.. body temperature has had no effect off accurate measurements ❤️ Hope this helps mate 👊🏽

      @grundschul-mathe-profis2773 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ActiveIdeas Thank you very much, that helps a lot and sounds really good. Since that seems to work, that leads to a follow-up question. Do you know how quickly the water temperature sensor determines the water temperature? So do I have to be in the water for at least 30 minutes or is it much quicker?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 месяца назад +1

      @@grundschul-mathe-profis2773 you ask some really great questions! So I would say within 3-4 minutes of water submersion you’ll have a 99% accurate reading. And after maybe 5-10 minutes 100% accurate. Good flow helps.. so if you’re in the sea or a river you can just sit tight. But in an ice bath I’ll move my hand around a little to speed up the readings

    Garmin’s yet to say how a firmware update fixed the cold water crashing that had been happening.
    This inherently reads like a hardware issue that they are masking, but really hope that’s not the case. Otherwise we’ll see more durable components coming in the Fenix 8 Pro or next rev.

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s a tough call! It definitely behaved like a hardware issue in my initial testing but I’ve really put it to the test (activities outside of this video) and truly haven’t been able to get it to crash because of cold water.. saying that.. now my watch has been crashing post activities, so not sure what’s worse 🤣
      I’ll keep an eye on it 👍🏽

      @JasonRaneses 3 месяца назад

      @@ActiveIdeasYeah, it’s unlike Garmin to drop new products in this state.

    I’m also getting post activity crashes when saving. It’s happened twice now when saving long runs. Also after restarting the watch it doesn’t recognise any vo2 max data. It doesn’t crash on 1 hr strength workouts though 🤷🏼‍♂️. Really frustrating the amount of bugs this watch still has after 6 weeks of release.

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  3 месяца назад +1

      Save your money and get the 965 is the best advice I can give to 90% of people. My only issue with the 965 was durability, within a week I had the screen all scratched up. It’s also hard to find screen protectors for the 965 because it has a protruding curved glass display. I guess the Fenix 8 (51mm) would get you more battery life too. Apart from that.. these watches are, as you said, 99% the same in terms of features. All the best Matt! 🧡

    Even if this has been fixed, they are still suffering from increased battery drain, improper sleep recording, incorrect navigation. I don't know whats going on with their development and QA team, but I totally lost faith in their 7 and 8 series devices and for that same reason, I've put my brand new 7X Pro SS into the box and waiting for proper software for it, until then, I will continue use my 6X. And if this continues, I will sell 7X Pro SS on the secondary market and look elsewhere (coros, suunto, etc).

      You’re not wrong here mate 🧡 I have lots of questions too. Garmin are undoubtedly the market leader but companies like Suunto/Coros are currently pushing out far superior software in terms of stability and reliability; this blows my mind with the resources that I assume Garmin has. I honestly think they’d benefit in getting these watches to testers waaaay earlier than they’re currently doing so they can be FULLY tested for the use cases that they’re designed for. I think they’d also benefit in getting watches to a wider demographic of testers so that all use cases can be covered.. just seems obvious for a product launch as massive as this. The last thing you want is Joe Rogan (a massive Garmin Fenix Fan) with his 20 million listeners talking about how buggy the software is 🤣
      The Fenix 6X though.. what a watch! WAY ahead of its time. The durability, battery life, reliability. I loved that watch.. not surprised you’ve gone back to it! If you like the vibes of the 6X you should check out the Suunto Vertical Titanium. Gives me a similar vibe.

      So weird how some people have had loads (I’m still getting loads of bugs) and some are getting none. I think it might be batch related.. and user dependant.. I cold plunge in daily life so posted a video a month ago about it crashing when I got in the ocean. My napping still doesn’t work, my metronome doesn’t work, navigation is still unreliable, I’m experiencing the post-saved activity crash and only getting 3 days battery life at the moment 🫶🏽
