    I would like to make a couple points as an owner of the original RP600m’s as well as some more neutral sounding diy speakers and various amplifiers.
    most people who shop for klipsch speakers never pay list price ( I paid $377 at Best Buy)as they frequently go on sale.
    you never mentioned synergy between speaker amps and preamps. In listening to these did you swap out equipment (class a for ab for d)? Perhaps inserting and amp or preamp with a warmer sound would bring up the midrange and lessen your fatigue.
    I don’t know but something about your review just came across like you enjoyed dishing out criticism of these a bit too much.

      If you have to fix your speakers you bought the wrong speakers. Seriously, a budget speaker that you can't use with the gear you already have is a fail. Ever wonder why you can find open box Klipsch's whenever you want? Hmmmm.

      "Perhaps inserting and amp or preamp with a warmer sound would bring up the midrange and lessen your fatigue." Sounds like you don't understand how these devices work, but you've watched lots of videos with people preconditioning you to believe such things. An amplifier amplifies the signal. It cannot "bring up the midrange". If you really think it can do so, please tell me how it does it.

      @@Jon-nz3dm some manufacturers tune their amplifiers to have a certain tonality. Most won't fix glaring issues, but there are some out there that may reduce certain traits of certain speakers (or enhance others).
      Of course it's better to get speakers that don't have as much a problem in the first place.
      And there are certain traits that cannot be fixed via tonal balance.

    • @Jon-nz3dm
      @Jon-nz3dm 2 года назад +1

      @@RennieAsh I agree, you should really never buy a speaker that you think you need certain equipment with to "get the right sound/balance". Especially since most of those changes with various equipment are placebo, so long as the equipment is in proper working order and of a certain quality.

      Reviewing speakers is difficult because there is what is objectively good (meaning, quality polar response and the like) and then there is personal preference as to what sounds best. Part of what sounds best has to do with how loudly you listen because your perception of dynamics and detail changes as volume goes up and down.
      IMO, I think going for an objectively better measuring speaker and EQ-ing to taste is the better way to go.

Live music, including acoustic, is very "fatiguing". I've heard a lot of soft, well mannered ELACs and they don't have any presence, no body, no "life" to them. Klipsch speakers when used for music rather than home theater are critical of amp pairing. Simple tube or lower powered class-A amps are what bring out the strengths and smooth the rougher edges. The amplification used here was not mentioned. Reviewers who loved the 600M's - such as Steve Guttenberg - drove them appropriately. There is (almost) no such thing as good or bad speakers and amps. There are good and bad systems.

      @@gaborozorai3714 I think a lot of reviewers feel a pressure to put out positive reviews, if they aren't then they will not receive more products to review and that can stop the cashflow.
      This is essentially the fault with the hi-fi press, it's basically made to make money for a lot of people above all so this is also why it's not very scientific.
      And then it's likely when people get sort of brainwashed by the corporate system they will read that their product is fine, so obviously it's fine. Obviously. A well received product can then become a sort of status symbol, you bought something great. Ain't that great?

I have listened to ELAC's, Q Audio's, JBL's etc. and for me I totally prefer the Klipsch sound(although I hate the Heresy). I have the 600Mii's set up with a Cambridge Audio AXA35 amp and CXA35 cd player and I love the sound. I think the amp is a good balance with these speakers and don't find them fatiguing or sibilant at all. Also, I find the bass to be very textured. Then I looked at the prices and though: heck, if my ears were used to $1,000+ speakers, I'm pretty sure the 600Ms would sound lacking in comparison. And, for $1000+, those other speakers BETTER outperform the Klipsch, especially the speakers worth $2k+! Not everyone is lucky enough to have the budget for creme-de-la-creme speakers. 😅 No envy here. 😃😇 I haven't been able to buy RP-600Ms; but I did score a deal on some used RP-400Ms some time ago. For $200, they sound fantastic! For an extra $1000+, I'm pretty sure I can find plenty of speakers that will leave the 400Ms in the dust. I'm another that cannot tolerate sibilance, no matter how minor, it ruins everything with music replay and also dialog in movies, making singers/actors sound like they have a lisp, and makes cymbals sound absolutely horrible, its also the most aurally tiring defect a speaker can have, and no amount changes of amplification or DSP will rid a speaker of it, if it has it.

    Based on my experience with the Wharfedale Denton 85, the amount of treble could be a matter of how you connect the speaker to the amp. 1) Single wire cross connection made them sound fatiguing. 2) Using only LF (jumpers to HF) improved things but something was still 'off'. 3) Bi-wired or bi-amp brought the treble down and made them sound balanced. Of course, it could be just a flaw with the Dentons but maybe playing around with the connections will help sort things out with the Klipsches too.

      Interesting. I have the Denton 80th and went through several integrated amps (two NAD's, Rega Brio) before finding the one that brings out their richness: Arcam SA10. This is the sound that reminds me of my youth in the 1970's spinning lp's.
      The two Dentons with a REL HT 1003 subwoofer cover the frequency range, give articulation and warmth without being analytical or wearying. Just nice music.

      @@stephenbailey9969 I've never heard the Denton 80th, but reading the internet, they allegedly sound darker then the Denton 85th. Before I bi-wired the 85th, I regretted not buying the 80th instead.

      @stephenbailey9969 2 года назад +1

      @@cremersalex I've heard that description of the 80th. It was interesting that right out of the box they sounded OK, but within a week became dark. After a hundred or so hours use, they opened up beautifully. They are capable of accuracy and dynamics without being too bright. To get the woofer operating at its best, your amp needs a bit of oomph down to 4 ohms. The Arcam does that while adding some richness in the tones. Keeping the back of the Dentons about 18 inches from the wall helps the bass from becoming muddy.
      I listen mostly to jazz and classical music and don't feel the need for a different speaker with the Denton/REL setup. I had thought at one point about upgrading to the Lintons, but my Denton/REL setup is less expensive and less obtrusive.

The attack speed and capability is great. I went to Klipsch because of the late-night TV articulation of the sound.. can hear a lot more than with soft domes, without turning it up loud. Music, they are fun and EQ'able and with that said, I also have a different set set up as an alternate B speakers..for longer listening or to switch to. I know your vid is about music only, but so many of us do not have the space for a second listening room, and the stereo also has to be hooked up to the rest of it.. yes the TV. You’re absolutely right the SVS primes, the newer Polk Reference series, the Elac you mentioned, are all going to be more linear and clinical.
    However, the reason so many of the uneducated “masses” as you say, like Klipsch (especially the more refined RP or RF series) is because they don’t sound refined or linear. Many people like that characteristic. They enjoy upper mid and treble clarity over possibly more balanced and boring. You can still design the smiley face to be more subtle, which Klipsch has done. Way better while watching movies too, for dialogue.
    Give me a horn loaded speaker over a silk dome any day of the week, for example. It’s not for everyone, but many prefer it. You lose some body and nuance, also some soundstage too at times, but the newer Klipsch has done a great job at finding balance and refinement while not losing their signature sound.
    Your viewers obviously are apt to agree with you. They’re your viewers.

    Good honest review Ron. I also liked your sound clips video. Recognizing that the best way to appreciate a speakers strengths and weaknesses is probably to live with them for a while but this is not an option for the average Joe. This is why many rely on good honest reviewers like you to give us a heads up when required. Of course not everyone is on a quest for accurate sound reproduction. For example some like the smiley face and/or impressive sounding speakers. But for those who like a wide variety of music and like to do critical listening or even just like to relax in front of their speakers for long periods of time without experiencing listening fatigue, accurate sound reproduction is a must have. Keep up the good work!

    I think Klipsch made great product voor marketing to a special group but not for sound quality. I listened to your soundclips on my stereo system in comparison to other speakers soundclips and their flaws are apparent in the midrange and bass. Female voices sound screamy also. Soundclips on you tube are not completely without flaws, but you make excellent ones with special equipment and the power to spot differences is in the simultaneous comparison that make alle speakers equal. I think the Klipsch are good for (live) rock music but not for other genres. You are the only reviewer I know of that also gives “bad” reviews. We don’t have to agree but you explain the characteristics with speakers and can demonstrate it with soundclips. Compliments for that! Other reviewers follow more the line “ all speakers are good but different and it depends on your taste” I think they are afraid of not getting demosamples from the manufacturer anymore.I have nothing against Klipsch, I also find the kef meta overhyped, they have good qualities but you need a subwoofer due to the lack of bass.

      looks like you need a better soundproofing for your garage. maybe it will help with your muddy sounding. as it was clear with me

    This is refreshing. I always hate when a reviewer only reviews equipment they like. Although, lets be honest, its up to us to understand what a reviewer is describing and decide if we like that sound or not. Hearing a reviewers overall thoughts does help put things in prospective a bit but That overall thought is really just a reviewer saying what kind of sound they prefer. After enough of those opinions u as a consumer can decide how much value u put in a reviewers opinion but you still need to understand how they describe the sound. Thats a long winded way of me saying, Nothin' but respect to you and your ear Ron

    I have no doubt whatsoever that your thoughts on 600M II are correct. I also know it's not night and day between the original 600m and the newer 600m II.
    first I think they were way overpriced at $649. ( as of this moment they're priced at $419.) only a few pairs left in stock... while the older model 600M ebony black is priced at $399.
    my question is considering the price drop of $200. which version would you recommend.? if any. Thanks
