      Erin, it would be great to see a Klippel analysis of one of Danny's upgrade / fixes on these models. from his CLIO measures his upgrade improves it a lot, but the Klippel clearly measures more. Amir's analysis showed the upgrade to be far superior. Would be great to get your assessment of Danny's system too if you can get down there and see/hear it

    I modified my original RP-600Ms by changing the tweeter cap from 3.9uF to 10uF which eliminates the dip at about 1.5KHz. I also changed the resistor from 9.1 ohms to 13 ohms which lowers the treble by about 2.5 db. These changes are easy and inexpensive, depending on the type of cap you use.
    I recently purchase the RP-600Mii and I like the sound of my modified original RP-600Ms better. Punchier bass and more balanced.

    To me, Klipsch is a speaker that does well for transparent screens in theater projection, so it makes sense that the cover on the M II complements it. I will use M IIs as the mains and Ms as the surrounds.

    I would love to see a review and measurements on the RP-504C II, especially since I still can't find anything on the first version either... I have a 5.2.2 RP-8000F, RP-504C, RP502S, Prime Elevation, 2x SB-3000's, setup run by a Marantz AVR currently. I think I'd be most interested in the difference for the new center channel first, in hopes that it would make voices and everything else sound even more natural, and hopefully even improve the dispersion and response a bit... I would even be willing to possibly front the cost to buy and ship it from Audio Advice or somewhere similar just to have it measured and reviewed for the internet to see. 🍻

    The main improvement of the larger horn provides better control down lower than the smaller horn. The smaller horn to flat baffle to box edge is a more gradual change to the side box walls than the vii which jumps right from horn to box side walls.

    I think these speakers, and likely especially the larger dual woofer center channel versions of these, would do quite well behind a large acoustically transparent projection screen, maintaining dynamics and efficiency, overall enough detail for movies, etc

    I used to have the version one and four music it sounded really good. The only reason I switch from those speakers is because a high percentage of my listening in the room they were in his home theater and an extreme dynamic situation they got harsh. In all Barron and it was the 8000 series powers that really got harsh considering they were the LCRs. These were my sides around so it wasn’t as noticeable.With how good the version one was for music I would like to hear the version twos.

    Hey Erin ever thought of doing something like top 10 in ear room response speakers on your site ? So we could easily sort the cream from the crop. Or maybe something like a graph comparison tool, where we could compare different speaker measurements directly on the site ? If you keep going at this rate, there is soon gonna come a time, when there will simply be too many speakers to go through on the site, to find that good one with great all around measurments. Or maybe some sort of scoring system, i don't know. An active and passive category for loudspeakers and subwoofer would really come in handy too. I'm just thinking out loud here and forgive me for going offtopic. I did enjoy the review like always :)

    Good review, the better linearity was noted in other reviews, so you are on the same page in that regard. Previous reviews I saw on the 500 with measurements said it did not have the dip that the 600 and others in the series 1 had; it was the most linear out of the box, FYI. The RP600 and the predecessor RP160 were wildly popular, not sure the 5" version was anywhere close.

  • @swllz
    @swllz 2 года назад +11

    As always, prefer your reviews over others due to the substances (measurements) you provide. Klipsch stated that they made voice coil for woofer 60% bigger. It also looks from your side by side picture the new woofer cone is slightly bigger.
    Both Robinson and Guttenberg both praised v2. Dynamics is the major attribute that both of them praised for both v1 and v2, is that a characteristics that Klipsch has over other speakers? Robinson also provided a FR curve for his v2 assessment without any explanation.
    Guttenberg is a good salesman, his praise for v1 helped Klipsch sold more v1. Klipsch may send him v2 for review.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh 2 года назад +1

      I think the woofer appears larger because the chamfer which starts at the top of the cabinet now extends all the way to the bottom on V2, where on V1 it fades out to a sharp edge.
      They do this because the new waveguide is larger, and having the old V1 design would look messy

    • @swllz
      @swllz 2 года назад +2

      According to Erin's measurements of THD, v2 is 8 db cleaner that v1 at 500 to 600hz region when playing at 86 and 96 db loudness, that's an improvement of woofer, even if not every one can hear it.

    • @veeclash4157
      @veeclash4157 Год назад +2

      @@swllz There's a noticeable dip in V1, that's no secret. It's nice that V2 fixes this, the real question is does that fix in the dip worth upgrading to brand new speakers.

  • @TylerStout
    @TylerStout 2 года назад +3

    Nice review. I did watch Andrews review and from what I remember he made it sound like the treble was more subdued than it appears in the data, think he's more referring to that 7khz region. He liked the speaker a lot more than the v1. His reviews have the chapter markers so you could just watch the part relating the sound which appears to be only about 5 minutes.
    Enjoyed a lot of the different data that you provided for this. Is it possible you could include multiple estimated in room responses for more speakers in the future as 0, 15, 30 I think would be very interesting to see.
    Also I'd rather see their center channels measured over the smaller bookshelf. So my vote would be rp600c v2 and rp500c v2 over rp500m v1 and rp500m be. Waveguide/horn mtm centers are kinda of the gray area from your center channel video (which was excellent) so more data and that I think would be helpful for the community moreso than seeing the 5" bookshelf.

I think that tweeter may need to be thought through again if your sensitivity measurements are right (and I have no reason to think they aren’t). People always call these ideal with low watt tube speakers (which I love) but something may be left on the table if the output is too low - in direct opposition of their past marketing.

    Is it normal to enjoy v-shaped frequency response? ASR claims that people enjoy a flat response the most. Now I have tried flat speakers, but if I EQ down 500hz to about 1500-2000 down a bit and boost the highs and lows a bit i I get a sense of clarity and higher realism.
    I never set out to boost the frequencies like that, it just ended up doing that by trial and error knowing little about speakers. When I hear speakers like RP-600M, i tend to enjoy them immediatley, I looked up the frequency response after having listened and low and behold it didjnt have a flat EQ, it has lower values where I usually lower the frequencies on flat speakers and boosted highs... Not sure what to think... Although bright and they will hurt my ears, I can EQ the highs off when I need that...

  • @IliyaOsnovikov

    Erin, I wouldn't say that distortion is pretty much the same. The newer model has significantly lower distortion thru the most of a woofer range. For example, at 600 Hz the first speaker has THD about -35 dB, but the second has about 10 dB lower distortion at that frequency.

    -BEST Technical Presentation as Yet on the Klipsch 600M II. You confirmed Technically what we "thought" was going on with the 600M's. The response is essentially more "FLAT", No Dip where the Tweeter Takes Over --- essentially it's a True Main Speaker and the Broader 'Horn" makes the Higher Freq's less Directional in a Room. We happen to like that --- Klipsch HORNS are Great Tweeters, bit on Bright Side, However, WHEN WE SEE A C-8 NOTE (4800 HZ) ON A PIANO...WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR, THUNK! i HAVE 19 YEAR OLD KLIPSCH MAINS WITH HORN TWEETERS, AND WOULDN'T GO ANY OTHER WAY. AND I love that they're "Broadened The Room Acoustics" with RP-600M'S, made the Highs less directional. Thinking of an Upgrade...It's time.

    Having to find always equalizers to increase highs in all existent speakers I hope those will work out of the box and without the need of an equalizer..... I love V shape sound.... I have a 300W per channel power amp and double subwoofers so don't care about sensitivity.... I will make them sing like Pavarotti on a C flat note....

    Great review Erin. I for one am pretty happy with the original RP-600M and likely to keep them around for a long time (using them mainly for music listening). For their price, I think I'd rather not spend the money for a next generation upgrade but perhaps something put that money elsewhere. Sort of thinking along the lines of the KLH Model 5 or another floorstanding speaker over the bookshelf speakers. Either way, I'm liking the fact that your review as well as others are delivering a message that while the RP-600M II are an improvement over the original version, the original RP-600M still has a lot going for it.

    Great review. Enjoyed the comparison with measurements. Question, how does the 600M V2 model compare to something like Elac uni or Keff with concentric driver regarding soundstage?

    • @BastianUllr
      @BastianUllr 2 года назад +4

      I’m big fan of dual concentric and I’ve had Kef, Tannoy, Fyne, and Technics. I still have concentrics and regular. Why? Because I can haha, but concentrics have a really nice imaging accuracy. Even at low volumes. They shine if you have to sit close to them. If you sit far, they are much more alike other speakers as long as it’s well designed for dispersion between tweeter and woofer. It’s not a must, but it’s nice. I still have a dual concentric.
      Concentrics have a nice dispersion pattern, but directivity changes with design and that alters the Interaction with the room, which alters the psychoacoustic perception, which alters the imaging perception. It depends of what room you have and what would work best in your room.

    Nice job. Real sensitivity data not just taking the manufacturer’s spec and parroting it. Also honesty about bass from a bookshelf speaker. People that say they have much bass below about 60 or 80hz are delusional. Thanks again.

      I think they look great, the new horn and rear terminals. I like the Klipsch sound. I had the 160m’s which are a little bigger. I liked them but I like my Canton 7’s better(not really a fair comparison). I’d be more interested in the 6000m towers in piano black if they decide to eventually produce those. I love the Klipsch sound to be clear and could live with them if I didn’t already have the Cantons.

    I've had the older rp160m they were the model before it was renamed the 600 for scream years now. I now own the 600ii and if you have the 160s no brainer easy upgrade! I was not able to compare them with the 600s. I've only had these a bit and I do like the sound they are bright but I'm sure with some time they will settle down. My 160s were the same way and now the sound good but nothing like these new ones. If you are on the fence I highly recommend them. Got them on sale for 419.

    Thanks for all your hard work on this Erin, this was really interesting and very helpful. I would actually be interested in a RP-500M v1 vs. v2 comparison if you can swing it, and I would also be interested in how they compare to the 600M's, as I am considering these for my surround and rear surrounds speakers. The 600M's are a bit big to mount on my walls, but also don't want to lose any performance going for the 500M's... So I hope Audio Advice is able to hook you up... ;-)

      I don’t think you’re see the full potential of a speaker when it’s used as a surround speaker. In that use case, you’ll just be wasting money on the 600. Get the 500 or even a 400. Fronts/mains is a different story

    • @BrendonHeld
      @BrendonHeld 2 года назад +1

      Yeah I think you guys are right... and of course the more practical solution would be the RP-500SA's, as they would mount better on the wall and take a lot less space, but there again... I'm worried I might be missing something with the smaller form factor... how do you guys feel about the RP-500SA's instead of the 500 or 400M's? For what it's worth, I have the RP-8000's and RP-504C for the front stage...

    People go ape$hit over power amps that don't meet specs, but no one bats an eye when Klipsch claims 5-6+ db sensitivity in their specs over actual measured performance. I find that interesting.

    I think it’s rough to upgrade to the V2 so soon after release as you’re paying full MSRP and Klipsch are imo good bang for your Buck speakers due to their constant sales like the RP600M V1 being obtainable at $350/pair. But $750/pair for the V2? That’d make me consider going for something else.

    With these actually being at 85-86dB how many real 89dB speakers aren't even considered when people are looking for efficient speakers?

    • @ErinsAudioCorner

      0 degrees is on-axis; the speaker facing directly at you. The speaker facing out into the room (not cross-firing across the side of the room) is what I mean when I say "toe-out". :)
