  • A Tribute to Air inter, one of the great airlines eaten by Air France in the 1990's . This french airline used to operate wonderful birds such as Dassault Mercure, Caravelle, Airbus A300B4,A320,A321, and A330 on domestic legs and a few european cities as well .

    Air Inter had a big disaster back on January 20th, 1992. Didn't know until they found the wreckage maybe a day later.
    Flight 148 had crashed into mountains near Mont-Sainte-Odile killing 87, biggest disaster for them.

      In the 1990s Airbus A320-200s had only the small wingtip fences and even then very few A320s lacked them. Nowadays almost all A320 family planes since 2009 have those long winglets known as sharklets.

    This is the only modern video available on internet where the Dassault Mercure is shown in its operational form and is seen taking off. Every other video footage of the Mercure is showing static museum examples or ancient black and white video of the its maiden flight. A video footage of Dassault Mercure taking off or landing (especially landing) is near impossible to find - it is the rarest thing on internet! So far, this is the only one I have found (I have been searching for 3 years!). It is incredible how the French failed to film and document their own product.

    This is gonna be the most 80s looking A320 I've ever seen. The lack of winglets on -100 variant almost looks like a 757.

      It was designed to be a short range efficient 737 competitor. The 737 being heavier because it is able to hold more fuel (So it's structurally heavier to hold a heavier load of fuel) was not as efficient on short range runs. Dessault thought there would be a good market for a 737 sized plane that was more efficient and only for short haul routes. Unfortunately no one wanted it because it could not be made versatile. The tradeoffs using this instead of a 737 weren't worth the inability to go just a bit further if need be. And in the U.S. routes (even considered short 1500km) were not possible in the murcure. Then you also would have to have a new special simulator and specific pilots able to operate it, when there wasn't likely going to be many in your fleet.

    This is the only video I have found on youtube that shows an actual footage of a Dassault Mercure taking off or landing. Most other videos just show a stationary museum plane. I have scoured the internet before ending up here. It is sad that there are no footages of that very rare bird in action.

    Does anyone know where they flew their a300 and a330 planes?

    • @jetaddicted
      @jetaddicted 6 лет назад

      I took IT’s A300s on ORY-LYS often in the mid80’s.

    • @ManxieG11
      @ManxieG11 6 лет назад

      The A300s (22 of them) flew all major domestic routes from ORY and some from CDG, same goes for the 4 A330s. The narrow bodies did inter regional routes, many through a regional hub at LYS, and to the lighter traffic routes from ORY and CDG. Approx 65-70% of Paris flights were from ORY, with CDG operated for onward connecting flights.
