- A DIY pickleball pickup tool. It's great for practice sessions or pickleball machines.
1" PVC pipe
3" PVC coupler
Zip ties
Small bolt
Any cheap material - I used canvas drop cloth
Two extra large hose clamps
Needle
Unwaxed dental floss
"and Bob's your uncle!" ha ha ha ha - great sense of humor!
I watch way too much British TV LOL
The zip ties get beat up and break due to ground contact. This is solved by cutting a groove with a grinder or file so the tie is recessed from the bottom edge.
Great tip!
Going to modify mine with the "zip ties" in the coupler. I have a Toro lawn mower grass bag on mine. I did not make it myself, I bought it from a friend. Like the handle idea also.
Did it using 4" butt conncter for 11 in softballs -worked great !! Thank you very much!
Awesome!
hey thanks for this. I am planning to use this mechanism for one of my robot project that pick ups ball in the same manner.
Yooooo, that sounds wild LOL
Great idea. I was looking for an idea for the picker part. Inexpensive. Just perfect.
Hope it works out well for ya!
Brilliant. Thank you we will be packing these for our pickleball club in Australia!
Awesome! Tell my friends in Brissie and Melbourne I said "hello" ;)
Thanks, my husband is placing the zip ties now.
Great idea. maybe use fabric glue instead of sewing it and or maybe just a laundry bag that already has a cord. I like it ... I’m going to try it.
Super inventive and clever!
Appreciate it!
Great video, thanks. You def. don't need that many zip ties but I'm making this baby!!
If you are going to kill it, why not overkill it?
Love your creative hack!!! Thanks for sharing. The link for the bungee cord idea didn’t work, so if you made one that way please share a pic.
Well, I've just kept replacing zip ties as they break off...it hasn't been a big enough pain for me to actually try the bungie method LOL.
What an awesome idea! I developed a hip injury not from playing pickleball but from picking up the balls. Pretty crazy when you think about it but its a type of repetitive strain injury that becomes very prevalent with age. Why buy a remade pickleball retrieval tube when you can make this easily and simply right at home. =)
Oof, sorry to hear about the injury. Hope you heal fast with your new picker upper
great idea! I recently broke my wrist so I'm stuck in a splint. Enjoy still giving to courts to see friends. with this I can busy my self picking up balls. thank you from a 70 yo PB enthusiast ! FYI: broke wrist falling from a ladder, not PB accident.
Sorry about your wrist, but it's good to hear you are are back on the courts...even if it's only just helping out!
awesome
Glad you found it useful!
dude, awesome. can i buy one from you !! i will venmo you. NOTHING is like this on amazon and everyone needs the ball picker upper to hold more than just 15 balls !!! i need 40 ish
@infomercialguy LOL. That's why I put this out in the world...in the hopes that folks more motivated than me can help out making these LOL. I believe in you, it's not nearly as hard as you may think ;)
I found that after some time the fat square ends of the zip ties started to crack and break. I'm wondering if using two or three 1/4 " bungie cords stretched across the opening of the tube would work better? Or metal clips?
I just keep a few extra in my bag, so as they pop off i just throw another one on.
I used just one bungee and it worked fine: photos.app.goo.gl/oqbEKXMaFkgqHynY7
The balls do not push past, even with the single bungee. Note that mine is just the 3" pipe, not the larger coupling. I think the larger hole of the coupling makes it slightly easier to use - larger target.
@@jmogyoro I think I may end up trying this trick myself; I have some bungee cords...might as well :)
Does the design work for tennis balls or just pickle balls?
🤔 I'm not sure. I would assume it would work fine for tennis balls, but I've never tried them.
Or use a snow shovel.
