I LOVED this game. So many memories. I always liked the soundtrack. @13:48, that frikkin River Race. I could never figure out how to paddle properly. Ended up using the turbo controller to cheat out a win.
omfg ive been trying to find this game for fucking years and years and years and years. I couldn't remember the name of it for the life of me. I finally found it. OMFG the memories. I feel like I want to cry
What's funny is I loved the TurboGraphx-16 game Bonk's Adventure. 🎮 It was a classic side scrolling adventure game that was just FUN! It was creative, didn't push any agenda, you just BONKED SHIT and had fun doing it! It wasn't until I was watching the Entire Sega Genesis/MegaDrive library.....all 4 hours of it...lol. But when I hit the C's and Chuck Rock 🪨 🎸 popped up, it was like getting smacked with a rock. I remembered the crazy music. There was a f**ked up looking band in the intro screen. It was like a real BLAST from the PAST! I had forgotten how epic this game was, or even WHAT IT WAS. So many games back then, but those complete libraries they show are perfect if your missing a name for a game? Or can't remember a title or something, anything? It is a Godsend. Watch the Genesis, SNES, NES, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. You'll need some time, these aren't 30 minute videos, but they are perfect for finding old games, names you forgot, or saw once or twice! Check em out!
Beautiful graphics, incredibly catchy soundtrack, and awesome gameplay with lots of variety and some wicked looking bosses. One of the most underappreciated platformers in the Sega Genesis's library!
@@Chubzdoomer I'd love to have seen a SNES version too. Other than obviously having a smaller horizontal resolution/view, as per usual, it could have shown everything we see here. And it could have had more/nicer colours, proper multi-coloured semi-transparency, smoother/nicer background gradients, additional background layers, smoother screen tilting effects like seen on the dinosaur section at 5:41 and swaying tree at 21:09, etc. It could have been very cool on SNES. Alas, it didn't happen, so Genesis is the way to go there.
The Aim of The Game Rescue Chuck and Defeat, The Meanest Brick Jagger Anyone Has Never Seen as Junior Travels Through Some of The Greatest Prehistoric Adventures of His Career!
i think this game might be a rare gem in Japan. According to Amazon Japans website, theres a cartridge of the game for sale that costs ¥268,780 wich translates to $3200.85 .
I love the distinctly european cartoony yet shaded aesthetic of the Amiga/Atari games from that period. It's a shame the style has been lost over the decades.
Omg I loved this game as a kid, I used to rent it ALL the time! That squid/kraken guy, for some reason, was my nemesis. I had a harder time with him than the main boss of the whole game!!!!
FeeDBacKMKII I agree. Nowadays everyone is on the consoles for up to 6 hours and it's such a loss of time. A good couple of hours you could get the job done. That's why I still prefer playing these games as they are not so time consuming.
@20:22 the tunnel looks great but moves so fast., you cant really appreciate all teh graphics.. For instance, those squirrels look pre-rendered, but you can't really appreciate that.
The Chuck Rock games and the Bonk's Adventure game are perfect examples of how games were by far more fun, way more entertaining, and how they were actually CREATIVE! Chuck Rock was a goof, but a big lovable goof. Son Of Chuck, was a perfect sequel. Again Bonk's Adventure, another goofy looking character that IMO was a perfect mascot. Cute little guy, BIG HEAD, and a great background and cool story. In my opinion it's games like THIS that have caused retro gaming to be better that new consoles. With the exception of the Sports games especially⚾️🧢⚾️Baseball⚾️🧢⚾️ I'd take a Sega Genesis & a TurboGraphx-16 anyday. Fantastic game. However the makers of classic Mario are the supreme designers of platform games. They have distinct colour pallettes for foreground and background elements.

No, it is one of a few that's pretty damned nice though, along with the SNES, NES, SMS, the Game Boy, the PS1, and the Saturn. Different people have different opinions on best console really, depends on what you grew up on that plays an important decision of what you consider the best.
i wished crap like this didn't appear on the Genesis/Mega Drive console it should've been an exclusive for the Amiga computer and Amiga CD32 it would be better if they didn't put Chuck Rock games on MD and SNES
This game had some funky music. I feel the nostalgia just listening to it.
oh loved this game as a child.
you love it now haha you puff

One of my favorite Mega Drive soundtracks.

let it all out
This game has a great soundtrack for a Mega Drive game. I really dig the groovy 'Butterfly Grove' song. >B)
So much parallax and line-scroll effects. Impressive stuff.

I remember at Costco in the 90s they had tvs by the store entrance advertising Chuck Rock 2.
YES!! YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! Man, so much fun with this game. I just love this game.
I love this game, it's not too difficult and the baby is fun.
back in the days when computer games were fun and not ultra time consuming.
exactly you turn of a game played for 40 mins and was done than you still had time for going out home work and other stuff

Sega said "we want BONK for our system too!!!!"
Son of Chuck was born
Nobody wants a Bonk for their system.
Maybe a Bonk with 50 line-scrolls per level and rotation effects
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539
thanks nerd
It was an Amiga/Atari ST game first… then ported to Sega MS + MD/G

it was typical with some port from amiga to mega drive
was this a mega drive exclusive?
Alexander Bustamante no it was a port from amiga with descent game playing
It's already on this channel, Mega Drive version (was there a SNES version?)
David Richard no
Better graphic than amiga, but sound is worse.
exactly
But songs are better in Mega Drive version 😉
(subsequently Sneed)
3:21 ....what?!
I can't help it, I just never could get warm with this game. It just doesn't reach up to Chuck Rock in terms of the game's charm.
nope, it's amiga porting.
sega mega drive is the best console ever
No, it is one of a few that's pretty damned nice though, along with the SNES, NES, SMS, the Game Boy, the PS1, and the Saturn.
Different people have different opinions on best console really, depends on what you grew up on that plays an important decision of what you consider the best.
my opinion.
You know you screwed up when the Master System version is better...
ok game but lacks the charm of the first
Sneed
Master system or Game Gear Title theme was better than Mega Drive Version.
Reminds me of leps world
Master System version is incredibly better.
i wished crap like this didn't appear on the Genesis/Mega Drive console
it should've been an exclusive for the Amiga computer and Amiga CD32
it would be better if they didn't put Chuck Rock games on MD and SNES
snob
It was on Amiga CD32 and Amiga iirc.
Actually it was good on the SNES and so was the music
Good graphics, bad sound.
i don't think i've ever seen an uglier protagonist..
Yes you 🖕😏
