I am curious to see if the exam objectives change for the "SecurityX" vs the current CASP+. I didn't take the CASP+, but instead went the CISSP route since it was a more established and industry recognized certification. The rebrand doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Only time will tell if it pays off or not.
Another great video, Zach!! I love all of your videos because you offer real-life, real experience, no BS Advice based on your many, many years of IT and Tech experience. I'm not a big fan of Comptia Certifications because they have lot of pros and cons! I have A+, Network+ and ITIL Certifications from CompTia, and they worked when I first got in. Now, they aren't very useful after 8+ years in IT!! I'm taking a CCNA and AWS course at my local technical college, so my next progression is Network Engineering and Cloud Technologies.
I honestly don't see any issue with this rebranding. CompTIA already has advanced certs like the Pentest, CySA, and CASP(now the SecurityX). Them adding a few more doesn't seem bad to me...plus they deal with a lot of Government agencies and maybe those agencies are requesting advanced certificates in the place of degrees or other credentials.
Also about the price...I agree, who would pay for an advanced cert if you are advanced...but you could apply that thinking to the A+ and Net+...who would pay for it when they are outclassed by the CCNA and Cloud certs...which are cheaper than both and more valuable
Since when did they start calling the CASP SecurityX?
@@cmartin8093 Just now...like today
While I understand what you're saying, I don't think it's necessarily fair to criticize CompTIA for attempting to compete with other companies in the "expert" level certifications like ISC2. Specifically because ISC2 is competing directly with CompTIA with their new CC certification, and their SSCP which directly takes a shot at Security+ and says its the more advanced version, which is honestly debatable.
At the end of the day, I think its just them exploring a new avenue of business. Someday, if CASP+, or I guess SecurityX now, catches on the same way CISSP has, its a success for them. If it doesnt, they'll still always have A+, Network+, and Security+ to fall back on.
I agree. Plus im an ISC2 candidate which has a lot benefits. I was thinking doing the Free entry level cybersecurity certification training.
Totally agree.
@Michaeldickerson98
Where can I find the free entry level cybersecurity certification? I'm interested.
@@honeychick4ever280 He's referring to Certified in Cybersecurity from ISC2.
@@cyberproaustinThank you😊 Have an awesome day😊
Totally agree, from being an entry level certifier to being a competitor in the big leagues. I believe that this new moment of cybersecurity is a supply/demand business and certifications as well.
Thanks for covering this topic, I was surprised about these news when I saw them
You’re welcome. I was definitely surprised lol.
Did Elon buy Comptia? What kind of name is SecurityX?
I’m Dead 😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
how is this different than ISC2 releasing a their CC to get into the entry level space? these orgs are competing with each other.
CompTIA is supposed to be for 1. who is new and 2. what is new. For 1, it's the A+, N+, S+. . . For what's new it's like when something is hot in the field and people who have been working in the field want a primer on it before jumping into it (right now like cloud and cybersecurity with Cloud+ and CySa/Pentest+ respectively). . . the certs under my number 2, usually disappear with time and have their content being pushed into other certs (for example mobility+ which is now spread out in the A+ and Net+). . . my opinion on the Xpert series. . . it says it's for advanced people, it's more than likely going to be taken by beginner folks (like me) trying to "prove" more advanced level skill despite not having the years required.
thank you for sharing! Just got my Security+ Certificate from CompTIA
You are not reading it wrong. It is a money grab!
You are spot on with everything your speaking about.
That’s good to hear. I thought I was maybe going crazy.
Wow! May I ask where you got your shirt? When searching I come across some weird websites.
Wow! Thank you for covering this topic. I was unaware.
I dunno man. Honda & Toyota started out being pretty good for entry level generic cars. Then they both expanded their lines.
MSSQL Server was the same.
Why not for the IT Cert industry too?
Someone is trying to compete with ISC²
Dope T-Shirt!
Thank you, I was super stoked about it.
How about thier very own CASP? (Btw, thanks for the TCM Security hat again!)
Lol. You are welcome!!
Let's watch this video once again after the Xperti series is released...
I completely agree, I don't see the value in these proposed certs. Looks to me like it's just one more thing CompTIA is doing to increase revenue without providing appropriate value.
I see the value. There are too many fakes trying to enter the industry on padded resume's alone and not because of their true work history and/or their true knowledge and security expertise
@@gilgilbert5866 Wow, 10 month old comment reply, I had to re-watch the video to know what we're talking about. I'm at a loss for how you think these are going to prevent "fakes" from entering the industry. These aren't industry entry level certs. If you're meaning more specifically for positions higher than entry level then I guess the assumption is that CompTIA is going to do a better job of vetting work history than an employer would for mid-high level positions? I'm totally open to these certs having value but I'm not following your logic. Moreover, things like the CISSP exist so this isn't something novel filling a hole in the industry. Quite frankly, I can think of a list of things for which there are certification gaps that CompTIA might have done, but instead it seems they're trying to take a bite out of existing pies.
Look, I'm just going to level with you and call a spade a spade. The problem I keep seeing in the industry is hiring managers not having a clue what they should be looking for in a candidate, let alone how to screen them for competency. No cert is going to fix that. All I see a cert like this doing is increasing odds for old farts (like me, incidentally) by screwing over people under 30. If experience is so valuable it can stand on its own and there's no need to lock demonstrations of knowledge behind some arbitrary gatekeeping of X years in Y industry. If someone will hire a person with a CASP+ and zero experience for a senior position, the problem is the people hiring, not the cert.
I'm studying for my CySA+. Now I'm wondering whether I should take that one or BTL1. I got Net+, Sec+ and I've been working as Information Security Analyst for 4 months.
You make good money?
@@martinruiz4029 not yet cause I just broke into cybersecurity. So they didn’t offer that much to start with. But I’m planning on applying to other companies and see if I get closer to 6 figures.
This is because you still have HR people and those in charge of hiring and reviewing hiring that still struggles with not having a piece of paper from an "institution" saying yeah, he/she knows what they are doing. Not to mention there have been some people who have been caught "fudging" their resume. And yeah a bit of a money grab. But at the same time I understand your frustration.
I totally concur with what he's saying. If you already have years of experience, that is your validation. If you want to put out new certs, let it be worthwhile and not this.
That’s what I’m saying.
Maybe they know entry level certs are dying and maybe certs are dying two!
Well as long as their not replacing the entry level certs I’m good with that
And this is why I continue to trust your opinion! Years of experience on the job should be your validation lol I understand getting entry level certs for validation to help gain entry into a tech job but this just sounds like a cash grab from CompTIA.
CompTIA needs to fix their current certs, exams, and study material so they're lined up and apply to the real world better.
I'm trying to get Net+, it's grossly bloated, and the PBQs are messy. No one subnets from memory in the field.
The Network+ was interesting because they mentioned subnetting but very few people, myself included, have seen it in any form on the exam. My complaints about bloat and unnecessary information is with the Security+. It's so broad and has so much information that I struggle to grasp all of the information even with 2+ years of experience and my A+ and Network+
"I am an adult", love it.
No you have to choose!! Jk
I remember I first watched your videos I had 0 certs, I have comptia a+ , Project +,Network + Security + cysa, pentest +, SSCP, AWS CP, AWS SAA, LPI essentials most of these are from WGU. I honestly don’t want to look at another cert once I finish WGU,
I would say following your channel has been dope for the career.
If comptia wants to really compete as a vendor neutral cert provider, they need to provide affordable sandbox learning environments like an acloudguru, cybrary, etc. Otherwise I see no value in a majority of their certifications when there are vendor specific competitors with similar or cheaper priced exams that also provide ways for you to get hands on with the technology.
Rebranding from CASP+ to SecurityX is awful. CASP+ is hardly recognized but SecurityX is even less recognized.
As a recent Graduate , basically studying to take my CompTia Security + ,like should I or will the 2024 new certificates be more important to employers due to "business matters "?..hmmm
Finish Security+. GovTech likes it, and these "X" certs will take longer than you think to get integrated.
I have casp+ and this was Xtremely stupid. I wish they didnt do this.
Do you have a job in IT or doing RUclips full time teaching about IT. I bet you make more money in IT than all your teachers and professors did.
Follow the money...
If they continue offering the original high-level-entry-level certs, then I don't see why not introduce other certs. Who knows, maybe they'll be of use. Many people can use them as refreshers. Others may actually learn something new. Education is always a good thing. That being said, I respect your opinion. Looking forward to more discussions on this!
It's a money grab, though, and can be used to lock people out.
Jesus dude, you've lost a ton of weight. You look great! Good job!
They for sure just trynna grab some money this cert doesn’t even make sense
no thank you...... "multiple years of experience" is called real world work experience............ comptia can shove it. no more certs...... it confuses so many people
It's a money grab.. and unnecessary.. they will add no value. Expereince in the field will always validate an "Expert" IT pro.. I am new to the industry and find this unsettling
This is for the 10x engineers to boost ego 😂
Heck yeah. They need more validation.
Yeah dude, reminds me of all the new "expert" SANS courses that rolled put this year. I'm tired of the money grabs. I love what CompTIA did for 8570, but no one generally cares DoD side outside of Sec+, and CySA+. GCIH and CISSP have a lot more visibility and respect than CASP+ because of everyone who brain dumps that test.
cash grab...
🤷♂️ lol
Wouldn’t waste m6 $$$ on it
I thought this was a different kind of video like man I’m just now studying to get my Comptia a+ lol they whipped out an expert level course but if you do got a job why would you take this ? I just need to land my first gig and I wouldn’t need to take this expert course 😂
YOUR RIGHT they don't know what there talking about here !
Because the Cert game = $$$$
I do like that they are adding more certifications. All businesses are incetivized to make money so to me its not that big of a deal.
I will say that im not too big of a fan of the securityx certification. That rebranding to me, seems it will make the names of certifications confusing to myself and also employers.
Sounds like this narrator is scared now that he won't be able to acquire the CASP+ after all. Now onto a much harder to pass new exam, SecurityX. Resume's do not validate one's knowledge, that's for sure!
This is by far the dumbest thing I have heard in 2023.
You cant be vendor neutral and expert. That is not how this works.
I genuinely don’t understand why this is anything to be upset about.. let them try to compete in that market.
What if they end up putting out a great cert despite being known for entry level certs?
What if the cert is useless and nobody cares for it?
What does it matter, they clearly have some vision , why not let them try without popping a blood vessel ?
CompTIA cannot compete with even associate's degrees and it is just a gimmick. TOTAL waste of money.
Money grab
After completing the Google Cybersecurity Professional cert, I wish COMPTIA would do a similar approach. I walked away from that cert with a portfolio, something I didn't even know I needed. I'd pay $50-75 a month for a course that would eventually lead me to a DoD 8570 approved cert. If cybersecurity needs more people, help us break into it from an entry-level, THEN we'll go after the Xtra Xperience. X.X.X.
