Jump King is only as difficult as it is because it has extremely poor conveyance. Probably deliberately but it doesnt make the game any better designed for it. There's a reason so many games use changes to poses, the special effects like glowing or flashing and getting brighter/faster, and so on for charge-up attacks/jumps/etc. Especially when its got varying stages, like a charged shot in mega man x or the jumps in Jump King. Its so the player has something that tells them how charged up they are - Jump King has absolutely nothing like that, which makes it exceptionally difficult to figure out the timing of jump charges.

A rage game can have extremely good, and ultimately fair, game design - it's just very unforgiving and hard. It's not a matter of "walking into a rage game and saying its badly designed", it's pointing at bad design and saying its bad design. Being a rage game doesn't excuse bad design, and neither does doing it intentionally. Games like Jump King rely on bad design to cover up for lackluster puzzle design and a lack of level elements to provide actual difficulty, and if you simply added a visual cue to tell people how much their jump was charged anybody could beat it in about five minutes.
This was the first Jerma stream I watched. He kept playing, and telling himself he wanted to stop so bad. He kept playing for 6 hours. His noises just kept getting worse. What an experience. Worst streamer ever, seriously. He doesn't ever listen to his chat.

This is one of my favorite Jerma streams to rewatch. He asks "why do we do this to ourselves," and I think it's because of the thrill you get from watching someone overcome an impossible task. That's probably why these kinds of games are still so popular: because you get this insane sense of accomplishment for defeating this bullshit challenge. When all the odds are against you, the victory is that much sweeter
