This song was one of those in the movie “Saturday Night Fever”. In fact, if I remember correctly, the song was in the very beginning of the movie when John Travolta was walking down the street. A lot of The Bee Gees songs were in that movie.
Aaron Todd they wrote song A Chain Reaction -Diana Ross it became one of her biggest hits, also did the backing vocals to it, they wrote a lot of songs for different artists.
Yep this song was originally set for the Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta. That's actually where the white suit comes from, you can tell if you see the picture of the movie. In the beginning of the movie John Travolta is strutting down the street with a can of paint. It also came in the sequel to Saturday Night Fever which the movie was called Stayin' Alive. It's when Tony (John Travolta's character) auditions and lands the lead to a Broadway show. At the end of the movie this song was played as well after Tony finishes the debut show and struts out down Time Square to this song. I love The Bees Gees. May Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb rest in peace.
A masterpiece of a recording .... the Bee Gees vocals are stunning ... Sounds as good today as it was back in the day. It's no wonder the Movie Soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever sold over 50 million copies, and it was a double album.
Hello Mark it is meanwhile 66 million CSPC sales - that means SNF is the second best selling album of all times and best selling soundtrack still today worldwide 👍 chartmasters.org/2017/04/cspc-bee-gees-popularity-analysis/65/
These Aussie Brothers and John Travolta defined a genre with Saturday Night Fever. Love the entire sound track to that movie. An I dare you to sit still through this entire song. Now I need you to sing more than just a couple of words. Come on and give it up. NOW as for that little mini-John Travolta...… I was on the floor!!
I met Barry Gibb at the Grammys two years ago when they honored the music of the Bee Gees with lifetime award. Extremely kind-hearted. Also, this music is on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever
The reason I watch your reactions to our (old people) music is that you do not interrupt every 30 seconds to give your opinion on what you're listening to. I find that more respectful. Plus, I really like you.
I am 84 years old and still loving this cracking song! Just discovered renaissance man and have spent last six hours listening to his choices, especially when he plays the Brits!
The fantastic, awesome Bee Gees.. The harmony and the songs that they wrote... They were the super group of the disco era.. RIP .Maurice and Robin Gibb..
Most airplayed song around the globus - every 20 seconds - this plays everywhere around the world and for sure it is the most iconic song of the 70´s decade. It’s an indelible cultural hallmark. None of that happens if that opening scene, is set to any song other than “Stayin’ Alive. I can’t imagine one single production tweak that could make “Stayin’ Alive” work better. Everything is exactly where it should be. “Stayin’ Alive” is one of those songs that sounds like it’s always existed. It’s crazy to think that human beings had to make it up out of nothing. It’s a part of our shared cultural heritage now - one of those pop miracles that just never gets old, never wears off, never loses its charge. It remains alive. And indeed one of the most covered pop songs in history
The funny thing is everyone thinks it's a super upbeat feel good song when the lyrics are actually tell a depressing story of someone who's life is going nowhere and he's asking for someone to help him.
Michael Mommsen Beautifully said! As someone who was a teenager in the 70’s, I appreciate how you describe this song. I listened to The Bee Gees faithfully during that time (along with Led Zepplin, etc!) and their songs never fail to bring back good, and some painful, memories. Thank you! 🥰
My generation has the GREATEST music! I went to awesome concerts. Eagles, BeeGees, Tempations, most of Motown. Wow. What a great Era and man we danced!
Grew up in this time, dancing disco. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was all them. Wow all of the school dances disco, the hustle. Polyester everywhere. Wow, blast from the past.
Barry Gibb "I'm a woman's man" and back then I was one of the many millions of women that wished he was this woman's man. I saw the Bee Gees on their very first tour in 1968 (yup, I'm that old) and Barry was gorgeous then - but nothing like as fabulous as in he became in the Saturday Night Fever day. It must have been hard for Robin and Maurice to have such a tall, dark, handsome older brother (and younger brother Andy was a close second in the looks department)
Great song, great to skate too. Fun fact the Bee Gees spent some time in Australia, Redcliffe, Queensland and began their career here in Australia. The song was from a movie starring John Travolta “Saturday Night Fever”.
Loved roller skating to this song when I was a kid.miss those days.i have baby genius on VHS,that little boy looks almost exactly like my nephew when he was that age,it always freaks me out when I watch it.

BOOM! You hit the good stuff Ty. The song is from the film Saturday night fever starring John Travolta and plays over the opening credits. The film clip you showed is a parody of a famous scene from there, where John enters a clubs dancing competition. You’re in lockdown right? Watch the film and use up a couple of hours visiting the 70’s! Back here in the UK, every girl loved Barry and those that didn’t wanted his hair! And huge controversy when the video was played on Top of the Pops ( a musical tv institution here) and parents caught a glimpse of Barry’s tight trousers......😳 Happy days!🥂

Thank you for not interrupting the song 20 times. Bee Gees forever.
Barry's range is out of this world.
He also produced and I think wrote islands in the stream by kenny rogers. Dolly's part was happenstance,

Just a great song. Doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are or what type of music you normally listen to and it’s been timeless.
The harmonys of these guys are incredible, long before the days of autotune etc, etc.
Barry Gibb was awesome I absolutely love the beegees my dad owns the greatest hits and this song is classic and I love it

I WAS BORN IN 1960. MY MUSIC WAS MOTOWN AND DISCO. STAYIN ALIVE IS ALMOST AN ANTHEM FOR THAT TIME. LOVE THIS
Barry was certainly looking mighty fine. Excellent dance song. ❤️🌹❤️
That song reached number 1 in 1978

The Bee Gees were truly multi talented singers and writers and wrote many hit songs over decades songs for other performers.Amazing!

...but they were still famous singers. I’m sure they didn’t miss much in the “woman’s man” department. 😏
I happen to think Robin was a real looker too. He did age so well, whereas Barry looks the same, only older. But Robin was a cutie.
Sorry, typo, Robin DIDN'T age well.
@@jenenegreen4731 I ADORED Robin and loved the songs he sang lead (there were just a few)
This is one of those

The BeeGees as a whole pretty much personified the 70s disco era
This song defined the disco era.
Tragedy is my favorite. Barry’s voice was hilarious. That’s a good thing.

There were jokes that they could only reach those notes because their jeans were so tight 😂
