Amazing Talent; Clifton Hicks is one of todays Greatest banjo players and American story tellers; He should have his own television show to share it with America. No Doubt About It.
🎉The banjo is great. I have to learn that drone feel with voice and banjo. A few years ago, I put down my banjo studies to go to a more melodic clarinet from my high school days. Did a few events but now I am ready to come home to banjo.
Wow! I haven't visited this great song in several years, and each year, I learn more and more about this fantastic little instrument, but its pretty clear to me now that NONE of this information was true. The tuning is positively Open-C (gCGCE) tuning, and the tuning was NOT down a half-step or more, as was indicated here. Any-who, play-on, James! ;-)
… (Methinks) don’t assume. Both are great but his style is solo. Rhiannon usually works with a favorite percussionist or percussion style accompaniment .
gCGAD. Actually he's tuned down half a step, but those are the intervals - from open C tuning (gCGCD) tune the second string down to A. The piece is in D, based on mostly fingering the low C string up to D.
You brought the 3d string down to match the 4th string? Right? Then you only slide on the 3d string? I just listened to your Relative Tuning Part Two again;
Someone below posted the following entry regarding Clifton's suspected tuning for this song . . . "gCGAD. Actually he's tuned down half a step, but those are the intervals - from open C tuning (gCGCD) tune the second string down to A. I would kill to know the proper tuning for this great song, and perhaps Clifton will be good enough to chime in at some point to provide it, but if you listen closely enough, I think you'll realize that it cannot be gCGAD.
Bruder Goriel Thanks Bruder! I appreciate your feedback. I was kinda hopin' that Clifton himself might be big enough to pipe-in with some pointers on his tuning for this song, but apparently not. It must be considered some sorta "proprietary" (ultra-secretive) kinda deal?!@#$%&?

Such an incredible song! This is an amazing recording. The dreamin pup is awful cute, too.
The banjo is down-tuned from gCGAD.

Did anyone notice the dog sleeping on the couch under that coat 🧥🧥🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great style!!!
Greetings from a banjo student of Catalonia!! :)
Great video. Brutus steals the show. Do you ever get out to Utah? I'd like to book a show if you do...

Beautiful playing on a beautiful instrument; what kind of banjo is it? Deering? Saga? Gold Tone?
Dominick John Diglio That is a Weymann built around 1890 or so.
+Clifton Hicks Looks a lot like my Washington from 1895(said a search). - just an addition to the trivial deck.
Beautiful! What tuning are you using?
What tuning are you using here?
