  • Having recently attempted the Welsh 3000s Challenge and sadly failing right near the end dye to safety I thought I would compile a short video on some things I learnt from doing this amazing walk.
    There are 6 points covered:
    1) Food
    2) Walking Poles
    3) Recce
    4) Lifts
    5) Mental Preparation
    6) Ambient Light
Looking forward to trying this route again in June 2022!
Have any questions about the route or area I'm walking in? Why not get in touch via Facebook?

The challenge is from Snowdon summit to Foel Fras summit, the getting to and from those points isn't included in the challenge, so it's actually 22 miles and more like 2800m total ascent, last time I did it I caught the train up Snowdon and descended Foel Fras via Llwytmor and Aber Falls which is the shortest descent back down to Aber Falls at just 4.3 miles, so that makes a total of 26.3 miles and 2800m of ascent including getting up and down at the start and end, always helps to make it as easy as possible as the actual challenge is already difficult enough! Also one last tip, the trigpoint on Foel Fras isn't the summit, the actual summit is about 70m away the trig point!

Take light gear.. even waterproofs.. water is a must
But stash some in the valleys.
We had good weather.. only had a few chocolate bars and a roll in the vaynol.. you must be fit.. we jogged the tops.
    Our marathon running helped.
Just over 11 hours including quick stop at the pub. Started at the far end finished on Snowdon. We were very lucky good visiblity and we knew most of the tops already.you must be fit and aware of the dangers

Thanks for this, I've just started with my planning to lead a team across the welsh 3000s in June 2022, do you plan your start time to be on Snowdon summit for sun rise?

Good luck. Do u have a date for next month? I'm trying again in July after failing last year with a knackered knee. Got to Ogwen in 8 hours but was just hobbling. Bristle scree did the damage.
