- Here is my 3 Days Solo Wild Camping and Backpacking video. In this video I backpack the Carneddau Mountains in Snowdonia. I'm hiking the Welsh 3000's with my 16kg backpacking bag with the aim of wild camping near Llyn Anafon at the end.
I'm solo backpacking and solo camping so I must be fully self-sufficient and take all the camping gear I need with me including all my backpacking kit for cold and wet weather.
The solo backpacking trip starts hiking Pen yr Ole Wen which is very challenging carrying weight. The elevation reaches it's maximum at Carnedd Llewelyn about halfway from my wild camping uk location.
Main hiking and backpacking gear items include:
Osprey UNLTD backpacking bag
Hilleberg Akto backpacking tent
Black Ice down sleeping bag
Big Agnes Rapide SL insulated sleeping mat
Nemo Fillo Elite pillow
Jetboil Flash
Mountain Equipment Lightline jacket
Fjallraven Vida Pro trousers
Salomon Element hiking boots
Rab Capacitor fleece
Thru Dark t-shirt
Day 1 Summits include:
Pen yr Ole Wen
Carnedd Daffyd
Carnedd Llewelyn
Foel Grach
Carnedd Gwenllian
Foel Fras

I've recently begun wild camping in the UK (moved here a year ago from Australia) and hadn't done much hiking or camping before. I've had 2 successful 1 night wild camps, and I've got a whole new appreciation for how much planning and endurance goes in to a trip like this.
Carrying 13+ kilograms up steep mountain terrain, far from civilization, while the weather is ever changing. All while keeping that mental and physical fortitude together.
Great video mate, a lot of respect for what you do!
You know it! Lots of people don’t realise though, it’s certainly not a walk in the park but it’s very rewarding!
Inspirational video. Gives me the drive, confidence and guidance to go solo. Keep these great videos coming please sir
Thanks so much 🙏
Well done great video. Keep up the great work
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the lovely views ⛰️ and all the gear info ℹ️ 😊
No problem 👍
Only ever camped on that side once, looks great. Really need to explore more. The hike up pen yr ole wen looked hard work, think that one bit that puts me off 😂. Glad u just went for a close up on the skinny dipping, was having my breakfast at the time 😂😂. Another cracking vid Andy, atb paul
Especially if you were having a fry up 🤣
@@BackpackingUK 😂😂😂
That's a fair old hike from Ogwen Valley. Did that with the wife in 2016, the scramble up Pen y Ole Wen is fun. Excellent video again mate. ATB, Roger
Thanks Roger 👍
Absolutely awesome! Really enjoy your solo adventures 👍
Thanks 👍
*_Solo camping for 3 days, always healthy and successful, my brother. greetings from Indonesia_*
Thanks for watching from so far away 🙏
Great video. Planning on doing a similar route next month. Tried it in March but just too windy so camped low down. Look forward to the next adventure. ATB 👍⛺️🥾
It was really windy to start off with (you can hear it!) but I was fortunate it backed off as the forecast predicted. It would have been a totally different experience if it hadn’t!
@@BackpackingUK out of interest. I’m assuming you parked up at Llyn Ogwen. How did you get back to your car when you finished?
@@PackBoots Correct. I simply walked back. If you watch Part 2 you'll see I took a different route and camped at Y Garn too.
Fantastic video! What a beautiful part of the world……expertly presented my friend. 👍
Thanks so much 🙏
I really enjoyed this video, hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe ,debs fan xx...
Thanks 🙏
@@BackpackingUK my pleasure you have a lovely channel debs xx
Having spent a night on the Rapide SL (regular wide) myself, I can vouch for its comfort. I used the Alpkit Skyehigh 900 bag. So warm. What a cracking view to wake up to. Haven't been to Wales since my 30s now 55. Dunno whether I could cope with all those rocks underfoot. Nice one Andy.
I'm really keen on trying an Alpkit bag, they get really good reviews!
Brilliant first part to follow up the second part Andy , looked like a amazing adventure
The weather was finally on my side 🙌
Nice one Andy
Looks totally awesome !
What a great spot for a camp and a breakfast !
Cheers Graham
Cheers 👍
Another masterpiece my friend, your channel is simply amazing and just artistic! Great work 🔥🔥
Thank you! Cheers!
Great part 1 Andy, looking forward to part 2 👍👊🥃
Part 2 actually came out first so it’s available now!
Awesome walk and great little spot that camp was, enjoyed the vid , stay safe
Thanks for watching!
Managed to find this place 👏🏼 I’ll add it to the plans
It’s a gem!
Looks stunning, I might have to take a dip after the sunrise. Maybe wander over to the falls
Hi Andy, wow, amazing content, as usual, look forward to seeing more.
Thanks 👍
You really nailed it this time mate , well done 5X
Thanks so much!
Fantastic! What a great location to put the tent up. 5* as you say!
It was a cracking spot. Simply found looking on OS Maps.
Cracking adventure and vlog, thanks for sharing.
Cheers 👍
Truly epic adventure. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring
So glad you enjoyed it!
Looking like a great trip. Good amount of climbing there.
It certainly was 😅
Rate the Sun to watchs, I have a Sunnto 5, not as good as the 9, but the bread crumb trail for GPS has worked really well for me, although I will say the Sunnto app for planning the route isn't the best, I tend to use the os Map app for that. Good Video Andy 😊
I use OS Maps and Strava for my routes 👍
i dont the welsh 3000s last year, we had half our team drop out at ogwen but we managed to do it in 20 hours
Well done, that's a great effort!
Great video again Andy, I’m only just getting into wild camping and hiking and was thinking of going over to Snowdonia as it’s less than 100 miles for me. Just wandering where you park the car as I’ve heard it can be a bit restricted. Cheers
Use the laybys, there’s lots of them!
Random question Andy, do you have kids/family? Just wondering as I am desperate to do something like this and wondering how you fit it in around work and family etc? Cheers pal and thanks for more great content
Yes, wife and 7 year old daughter. It’s a challenge! For these 3 days I made use of the Easter holidays so went for these 3 days and immediately went on a family holiday after. Everyone’s happy 😁
Hi there, what is the ‘Slide straw filtration system’ ?
Lifestraw 👍
What bag you use? How many liters?
Subscriber from Philippines
64L 👍
So what are you thinking of that Osprey UNLD backpack?
Really comfy and I love the clamshell design. Crazy money though! The Osprey Atmos is very close but a fraction of the cost. That’s where my money would go.
How do you know were you are allowed to camp?
In theory you’re not, but if you get high out of the way you should be ok.
What is the pack you are carrying?
Osprey UNLTD 👍
What watch is that?
Suunto 9 Peak Pro. I think RRP is £419.
More outside adventures, I need to get out after seeing this, building a camper at the mo but I need to down tools and get that solitude with a view 🥾⛺️⛰👌🏻
We’re hiring a camper next month, can’t wait! It’s obviously not the same, but I get to share a similar experience with the fam.
Enjoy, will you be filming it? If so it would be a good thing on your channel, there’s a few hikers turning to campers for some film content
