I recently gifted a milestone birthday quilt to my brother ( a tradition) and took a picture before gifting. I usually wash quilts before presentation to be sure all colors are fast but was unable due to a washing machine issue. I gave him a sheet of care instructions and 4 color catcher sheets. Luckily my niece is familiar with them. And quilts do shrink quite a bit if fabric not prewashed. And I don't usually prewash.
I will remind him again that I need a picture of him with quilt. I always think about a quilt journal of finished quilts and documentation. Time to start.
I usually attach labels to important quilts but aren't all quilts important?
I attached 2 labels to the back of a wedding quilt that was from the wedding save the date postcard photo and the beautiful invitation that happened to complement the actual quilt. And the info you recommended. Great ideas.

I have taken a photo of each quilt I made but only put labels on quilts I gift. I guess I should put labels on all of them. I also post my quilts to a FB album on my page, I've learned to put the name of the fabric line and the pattern so I can go back and reference it if needed.
One thing I've also done when gifting quilts is to include a small bag of replacement or repair fabric- extra pieces of binding, backing, and some of the piecing fabric for repairs of tears, stains, etc.

Happy birthday, Mary! These are wonderful tips. I have several ways that I document my quilts. This video is interesting to me because I am planning on making a video that shows how I document my quilts, hopefully I will be able to create it later this year.

Since I am still pretty much a newbie, these are great tips!! Thank you so much! I have only made a couple of grandkiddos quilts thus far and have always placed a label on them. I usually take pictures because I save them on my phone. Happy birthday month!!

Thank you for these tips, Mary! I’ve been using a three-ring binder with sheet protectors-after completing a project I take a picture, print it out, write down all the details, and place the photo/info in a sheet protector. 😊

That is GREAT! It's so helpful just to be organized! That sounds like a great system!

I have two methods for tracking my quilts - one is a 'scrapbook' of all my quilts where I write the fabric/pattern/start and finish dates etc and I add a photo. I also track all my quilts in a quilt inventory spreadsheet, because I want to know which quilts I've made and where they went to.
