  • Sylvius Leopold Weiss for whom Bach is likely to have dedicated the majority of his lute compositions is probably one the last great German lutenist.
This Fantasia in C minor was written in Prague in 1719 and is well known from the guitarists. Like a prelude or a fugue, the arpeggios almost improvised in the first part, contrast with the contrapuntal writing of the following allegro.
Sylvain Blassel performs this fantasia on an Erat harp (around 1830).

    Beautiful rendition.
Do you also play the baroque triple harp?

Why can't harpists play harp repertoire that already exists? Why do they think playing music for other instruments advances them? Especially if you have to play it at half-tempo or on a strange instrument?

it has been said a number of times by different people, "they did not have our harp, but we have their music". harp literature was not widely created centuries ago because the instrument was limited. also many composers created music that can be played by many instruments. further, do you have the same criticism for instruments transcribed to other instruments, or is it just harp?

Harp repertoire sucks and is very limited. Talented harpists get bored very quickly with our selection of music so they either compose or try new things on the harp.
