Hey Wendy, Thanks very much indeed and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I bet it's great to get on the water and get a unique view of the wildlife. Thanks for watching, All the best Rich 👍
Rich you smashed it with the the copper hawks !!! Unreal footage !! Loved that sequence!! Mate I always say this your field craft is second to none & your post brings that alive ! I hope people take that on board what you’re doing ! Class 👍👏🏻🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥
Thanks Craig, Yeah they were a real treat to see all together! I hope so too mate, if a few can adopt some better ethical ways then it's a win in my book. Cheers Rich 👍
Hi mate, great to hear from you and thanks for checking it out. Nice lot of species that day, not always the case, lol... Getting to that time my friend, going to miss it! Cheers Rich 👍
Hey Andrew, Thanks for finding me on RUclips and I hope you enjoyed the video. Nice one, where are you living? It's certainly a great pace to live and I much prefer it than Toronto. Cheers Rich 👍
Wonderful stuff! What a beautiful place to just sit and wait with your camera for all the wildlife to come along. Really enjoyed this one. So nice to see the birds and wildlife over there. It's a grey, damp and murky autumn day here on the Dorset coast so the super blues and greens of the sky and foliage in your footage really cheered me up! Look forward to more from here!!
Glad you enjoyed watching, it was such a pleasure to sit back and relax and watch nature unfold around me and the species I saw was also very lucky! Sad to hear it's not nice down in Dorset but I'm glad the weather and my video brought a smile to your face, fingers crossed the weather will get better soon. Thanks again Rich 👍
Great video Richard and a great selection of birds.Popped up to Meare Heath in Somerset to see some Marsh Harrier’s and Bittern, but wasn’t lucky this time. But great to be out.
Thanks for watching Mark, It was lucky find that day! Darn it, that's a shame but you can't always get results as you well know, hopefully next time my friend. Cheers Rich 👍
Brilliant video today, Richard! Excellent photos and video scenes. That was amazing to see those 3 hawks in the one tree. Great find! We were at one spot along the Ottawa River last week and were amazed to see 18 Great White Egrets, a few Great Blue Herons, various ducks, Canada Geese and other smaller shore birds, all in one spot! I have never seen that before. I went home with a lot of editing to do that day. The migration season is beginning now, so it's going to get pretty busy out there. Have fun with it.
Hey Phil, Thanks for checking in on my latest video. Yeah the Hawks were a real star of the show and so nice to see them healthy and actively hunting. No way, 18 GWE's, that's a pretty good count of a stunning bird. I bet you did, lol... That's always the not so glamorous side of Wildlife Photography, stuck at the computer! Cheers R
Thanks Jon, lots on offer that day but as the season progresses it will get less and less as you well know! Beautiful Trees and starting to look lovely now in the fall. Cheers R
Congrats on finding such a beautiful spot, hopefully you will get to see more of those beavers. This is just my experience, but I’ve found beavers to be more active out of the water (eating/grooming), in the late evening - but maybe that’s just because I’ve not been up early enough 😊 Worth a look though? What a great spot, so many fantastic sightings. Another wonderfully relaxing video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Dee, Yeah I hope so they were a joy to photograph, thanks for the info, it's always great to share tips amongst ourselves. Thanks for watching, as always great to have you following the channel. Cheers Rich 👍
Hi Richard that was truly fantastic video the amount of wildlife you got there, you have definitely got to go back to this place again and again, to see the so many amazing birds of prey just fantastic, being in such fantastic location it just looks like that place has it all, three Coopers hawks in the dead tree seeing the osprey was just fantastic, certainly worth sitting in one for an hour like you said as you can tell I was truly amazed at the amount of wildlife there one of your best videos well done Rich thank you for sharing it with us.Martyn
Thanks Martyn, It was a special day and although it started off slow it certainly picked up nicely. I'm sure it won't always be the case on each visit but thats what makes it so much fun, you never know what will turn up. My pleasure, have a great week my friend. Rich 👍
I've dreamed of this 200-400 since its launch. I've just purchased a R3 (awaiting delivery), but maybe next year I'll buy a good used 200-400. There are no comparible RF lenses aside from the uber expensive 100-300.
Hey Stu, Nice one on purchasing the R3, you won't regret it as it's a superb camera and I just love it! I also love the 200-400 for its versatility and reach upto 560mm with the tele engaged, especially for video use and when out all day using various landscape shots and with wildlife in the environment. Hope you find one, you won't go far wrong. Cheers Rich 👍
Good stuff again m8, keep at it, I'm sure you'll get an osprey fishing there, not easy to track them diving though, but eye AF is a game changer, good luck, & mon the ospreys !
Thanks mate, I'd love to just see it! Something that you've witness so many times but I bet it still gives you a massive buzz! I bet it comes into play so much better with the advanced eye AF, I know it does with other birds of prey. Cheers R
Beautiful work/video Richard. You had a very successful few hours at that location. I mentioned two other spots in Ottawa to you on your FB post. Mud Lake in the west end and Nepean Creek Storm water ponds on Colonnade Road. Just other places for some variety
Thanks very much Jim, I really appreciate that. I had such a superb morning there nice and quite surrounded by nature in all it's beauty, it really is such a wonderful place to go. Thanks for giving me some other locations, I've heard of them but I have yet to go, will hopefully soon. All the best and maybe we might bump into each other down there one day. Thanks again for watching, all the best Rich 😀👍
Another cracking video mate,we had an osprey pass over last week while I was down at Portsmouth heading south, and our local breeding hobbys left for Africa last week. Winter is just around the corner.
What an awesome location! That looked like a pretty perfect way to spend a day. Our ‘local’ Osprey seems to have moved on now. Was great to see it though. Keep up the brilliant work 😀👍
Another great video. I am really interested in your setup for this video. How do you find the 200-400mm f4 in lower light levels? I am looking to buy a second hand one for sport and wildlife.
Hey John, To be honest I love this lens and was so glad I purchased it. To have that zoom range from 200mm upto and including the 1.4 x gives you 560mm on a FF really does give you plenty of options and for video it's superb. The quality of the glass is obviously superb but I've not tested it fully in Low light as I'd likely use my 300 f2.8 or my 500mm f4 but I will be sure to give it a go and see. It's fast, great IS and optically it's sweet! I don't think you'd go far wrong with one and prices are still pretty good. Cheers R
@@RichardBirchett Many thanks Richard, I really appreciate that. The second hand prices seem reasonable for such a high quality lens. I'm looking forward to your next video.
Hi, Thanks for watching my video. I'm still thinking they are Coopers but I am not expert here in Canada, they seem too long in the body for Broad Winged Hawks and the eyes not quite right and the heads on these birds are much smaller. The only other it could be is a Sharped Shinned Juv's but I've not seen many of those, I've got a good friend who's a raptor specialist so I'll ask them to have a look. Your right though, it would be a better find, lol.. Cheers Rich 👍
Loved it-made me so sleepy it’s just beautifully relaxing xx
Yeah, had that effect on me too, lol... xx
Great to see some beautiful shots at my favourite location to kayak and take photos. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and commentary.

The three Cooper’s hawks were magical! What a fortuitous encounter!

There needs to be an 'I'm jealous ' emoji !!!! Fantastic video and lovely stills. Can't believe you got the Pied Billed Grebe. Wow.
Lol, Thanks Peter such a beautiful location with lots on offer! Great Grebe, are they quite scarce there? R👍

Nice video. Your 3 young hawks are not Coopers, but some Buteo-specie - I believe they are Broad-winged Hawks (a much better find than Coopers....)
