That is a triple action knife. Also called a jacobs ladder sometimes. Originally made by Fred Perrin (you can still find them as they werent that pricey and it is still made) with later the knife being made by Cold Steel in their knife called the Triple Action. It is a unique technique that can be worked with a simple motion once you learn the angle.
Used to have a cold steel triple action years ago, but I sold it and haven’t found another since (when I could afford to buy one at least) so seeing a modern production knife with the same fun opening mechanism is always cool! Hopefully we can see one in a nicer steel, but if not it’s still a neat conversation starter
Roberto Ottonello is an Italian custom knife maker. This is his design and it sounds like it is being mass produced now. I have an original made by him a few years ago when about 5 of them made it I to the country.
The Dragonfly is massed produced in China. Roberto Ottanello still makes custom versions. Knife Purveyor has a Phil Boguszewski custom of this style of knife, for $1450.
I juts got one of these today and there is no lock up at all. Is that normal or just my luck? I guess there isn't too much to lock up with stainless on stainless. Maybe I'll see if I can't exchange or return it. I also got it from Blade HQ.
I'm a big fan of AGA Campolin, their Zero (tactical leverlock stiletto) is I think the best modern, high-grade take on the classic 'Italian switchblade' pattern in the world right now. Their traditional stilettos are great too, though I prefer Frank B's aesthetics. Anyway I haven't toyed with this thing yet, but as I understand it it's a sort of reissue on a design that's been around since the 1960s. Very similar to CS' Triple Action, except the Triple Action was deeply flawed and quickly pulled from the catalogue; both for their very soft aluminum handles and because CS advertised it as something it really wasn't. Let's been honest, this is an impractical gimmick -- and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not a hard use tactical/defensive knife. Regardless as someone who loves the retro/vintage stuff it's nice to see all these classics coming back and being reissued with modern materials and engineering!
There is a video from years ago with the original, and you could close it similar to the way you opened it. Maybe they made the lock up too tight? But you could flick the lock bar out and the blade would follow it back.
Just bought the stone washed one today, the satin one was sold out. Hey u arqiued a benchmade 32 with box an all, on the blade it said 382/500 frist production. What's something like that worth? Around 300 maybe?
You can find true Ottonelo hand made in Italy for 100€ more than this one. I don’t know if the cost difference is justified. Ottonelo is a famous Italian knife maker who designed this knife.
I’d definitely be carrying one of these in a leather slip as a secondary knife. There’s no was I could use that as a primary knife. When you carry full ti folders almost exclusively, this would feel flimsy compared to my xm18, SnG, Arius, etc. that I’m used to feeling in pocket. It’s a really neat design, a bit gimmicky even.
Great interesting knifes but there is a flaw where if you don’t swing it open properly the tip can catch the bottom latch and dull/chip it from constant abuse
Got one impressively fast from PVK, and I love it. Its one of the coolest knives, if not the coolest knife, in my collection. Its something that should only be carried in a small watch pocket, or some small pocket that will keep it closed. I wear Proper tactical pants, so not a prob for me. I have a pocket thats perfect for it. Super duper worth the 65 bucks I paid for it.
I can say that we have a very similar taste when it comes to knives. I was totally obsessed with Kizer Mercury - that's how I've found your chanel 😁 Now I'm waiting for my AGA Campolin Dragonfly and... here I am again! Cool video again, brother!
Nice knife, fun deployment. Once again, I think there is way too much emphasis put on blade steel. I love the super steels but they are not necessary to enjoy a blade as long as you know how to sharpen. Grandpa didn’t have super steel in his knife !
This looks as fun as it is dangerous, but if somehow gravity knives were legal in NY, then I’d suggest this should be kept in a leather slip to keep it from opening in your pocket.
😂 I saw this knife on one of your shorts and I have seen it one other time. I searched for this video so I could see a review on it and when you said 440 c I was definitely 😢.
I was holding this knife in my hand when I got this video alert 😳😳 By the way, if you move your hand quickly in one motion it will open (doesn’t look as cool as the 2-motion, but it’s quicker😎)
This one looks like a butter knife to me! Also STOP BREAKING THE INTERNET!!! that one lady in the Superbowl commercial couldn't but no you put one one video and it either sells out in minutes or you break their website!!!
Most people prefer pocket clips on pocket knives. And I mean about 99.9%. I know this factually because of the total views/comments on this channel and how astronomically rare it is for someone to prefer not to have a clip. If it works for you, more power to you 👍
@@JasonKent-n3j I live in rural Kansas. Everyone around here is a "county boy". Everyone who carries a knife and a gun has a clip on their knife or they carry a fixed blade in a sheath attached to their belt. Please. Don't try to teach me.
I’m just saying we carry a gun but we just put a knife in our pocket because it’s not a primary weapon it is a tool to be used at work. That’s why I carry a simple 940
@@JasonKent-n3jthere's a disclaimer in the description of every video I upload that says "knives are tools, etc". Its at the very bottom of the description. - I don't carry knives with the idea of using them as a weapon. To me, they are tools. I prefer a clip because it allows me to use the knife as a tool in a much more convenient way vs rooting around in my pocket.
what a load of BS... safety, pocket clip, steel choice... just accept the thing for what it is. there is no need to americanize everything. Reate EXO was perfect without any stupid pocket clips. if its "too dangerous" its simply aint for you. don't ruin it for others.
Really a shame its 440C, I was actually considering this one. Love the locking mechanism but I want to carry a knife that is cool, and functional, and with my experience with 440C, it dulls like pretty darn fast, and anooying to resharpen because of how easily the steel grinds away, the burr keeps flipping from one side to another, making it hard to apex even with a strop.
This knife isn't really that new. People are such sheep and this channel doesn't add value to people that really use knives. This is a pocket jewelry/fidget channel

Thanks for the info. I saw this and immediately thought of Fred Perrin. Cool to know this is his design!
I still have my triple action from like 20 years ago
I have owned this custom Roberto Ottonello knife for a few years. Very limited production until recently. Very fun fidget knife as you can see!

You can get a Fred Perrin as he originally made it and they are pretty inexpensive too. The Perrin is what inspired the triple action from Cold Steel
Just like my Cold Steel Triple Action! I got it in mid 2000s. Fun knife design!

8 minutes, sold out!
Sounds bout right !
In this case it's been sold out, but yeah that's usually how it goes though.
I’ve seen these at bhq for weeks already. Pretty sure it’s been sold out for a while

"I don't think I want..."
-You opening that blade-
"I WANT !!!"
I smiled when you got it right for the first time
440c is perfectly acceptable if it's done well.
I ordered the VG10 core damascus variant and its is only like 5 dollars more expensive... I believe it can be good for snack/utility/toy EDC
Just bought the stone washed one today, the satin one was sold out.

@@squarepusher645 Anything lol, it's novelty and just a cool piece
Everything you just said is my case too. Got mine from PVK also, arrived crazy fast, and I have tactical pants so it carries well

Cool video again, brother!
I carried it once. I used the small inner pocket on my right hip. It wasn’t as sketchy as I thought but still wouldn’t recommend for an EDC.
It looks like some skateboard tape and a pocket slip would help.
Old school stamped brass designs for better grip?
I got one off of Etsy few years back, Steel Art boutique. Roberto Ottonello is the designer I believe.
I commented in the short that it needs a pocket clip. Glad to see other's share my opinion.

Cold steel triple action !
Fred Perrin makes a similar knife that I bought for about $35, model FRD3F2.
57€ where I live.. agree that I would not carry.. but some knives get a place in the collection for the novelty factor :D
Really wish this was made in Italy but it’s definitely cool none the less
It looked like a harmonica when you first showed it. Still does a little when closed.
Remette has a gravity knife as well
I just got one of these. It's a great & fun fidget knife.
Imagine how cool it would be to find this gem at a sundown marketstall on the edge of _your_ world, in the 1800s, as an adventurous sailer! 😁
Love mine.
That is not always the case . I bought this knife a out a year ago and is in M390.
Get a cold steel triple action if you can. You'll probably love it
This looks as fun as it is dangerous, but if somehow gravity knives were legal in NY, then I’d suggest this should be kept in a leather slip to keep it from opening in your pocket.
Gravity knives are no longer illegal in NY, Gov Cuomo changed the law
Reminds me of a Balisong knife. Very cool!
I've got a Reate EXO m on the way and I'm stoked. I've been burned by Frank Beltrame before but that's cool.
I think putting a button lock in it may make it pretty cool
I just got mine today
Whatchu think??
Can't put it down, super fun to fidget with
@@slydwynder81 I’m going to pick one up as soon as I get a chance!

Atropos knives are also like these, I own one and its fun
That knife design came from a custom knife made by Roberto Ottonello.
I looked this up a week ago and it was sold out everywhere.
Gone lol danggg that was fast
should have got the Cold steel trifolderr
Cool factor, 12/10. Do I want this one, yes, and just for the Cool factor
If you want to check out a Cold Steel Triple-Action I would be happy to send mine in for review. Let me know 🙂

Id love to see a mechanism like this with some more premium materials, and a bit more personality. Still a pretty, and very fun knife.

Ill be honest, ive seen similar looking fit and finish at $12 gas station knives. It just looks like a bunch of bent metal.
