    Forget GT3 cars, this is a full-on 500bhp GTE racer, and the very Aston Martin Vantage that won the GT title in the 2016 World Endurance Championship. DRIVETRIBE's Editor-at-Large Jethro Bovingdon straps himself in for some fast laps of the Portimao race circuit in Portugal

    Aston makes the best front-engined GT race cars in the modern age. The GT1 and GT3 cars all delivered and were always well-rounded & competitive. Assetto needs one of these ASAP.

      I would say MotorTrend does some things a lot better, but they only have a few uploads a month and a much bigger budget. I would say DT is definitely killing because they have great editors, great cars, good reviewers, and most of all, a generous amount of uploads.

    My first ever experience of Le Mans was in 2017, watching the Aston's being hammered round the track and the noise they produced I instantly fell in love with the AMR team and the Le Mans spirit/ atmosphere. I then returned in 2018 when Aston had a disappointing race with their new car which is a shame. Let's hope they can turn it around, bring on the 2019 season.

    • @PaganiZondaF650hp
      @PaganiZondaF650hp 7 лет назад

      They should stay with their elegant GT cars. Astons are mainly DBs, Zagatos and One-77s. The race cars are also cool. But the GT12 and GT8 are a joke. They are no where near as good as track-focused cars like 675LT, Speciale, GT3 RS or any other normal super car like 650S, Turbo S or Huracan. Yes, they sound cool with the titanium exhaust and the bodywork looks good, but they are just a end-of-production special and not what AM is good at. The Vantage V12 S/V8 S with the mild bodywork, color contrast and exhaust suits AM better

    I saw 1:55 on the timing dashboard. Indeed he was barely scratching the performance that was available in this car. He was cornering like how he would in a very well mannered road car and not really taking advantage of the aero. Chris Harris was getting 1:55 lap times in road cars on road tires.

    • @clicheguevara9917

      True, yet he's done pretty well at driving a Mclaren P1 GTR. I'm not blaming him. I'm just saying he left a lot of time on the table because I do believe the car has a lot more to give, which is also a compliment on the car.

    excellent job @ Lemans. ( guessing Aston''s budget maybe half the big factories, Porsche, GM, Ford.) and not a cherry picked design like Ford. of course the 'moving adjusted regulations' seem to make the cars pretty much equal and thus the cars themselves irrelevant. heck, maybe enter a modded accord !

    • @MisterDillPickle
      @MisterDillPickle 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I was just trying to point out the cause of the hype.
      Personally, I'm glad Ford won Le Mans as I greatly appreciate Ford using racing prowess to promote cars compared to using unregulated 'lap times' for every promotional material like every other manufacturer (looks in the general direction of VAG).
      On the other hand, I'm also glad Aston got the championship as the Vantage will probably be replaced in a few years and such a beautiful car deserves a few more trophies during its lifetime.

    • @69houyt
      @69houyt 7 лет назад

      Collins T the series uses performance balancing. You could enter a kia picanto and get the same results.
      The aston has been around since the dark ages but gets massive allowances on weight and air restrictors for power.

    • @Night_Diver81
      @Night_Diver81 7 лет назад +12

      ESPN Jeds So this Aston here is a track only racing car. Its not road legal. A Basic Porsche 911 is a capable sports car but wouldn't see wich way this Aston had gone on Track. A McLaren P1 is an incredibly capable HyperCar, but still a road car... and over all would still be slower on almost all race circuits, (Save for La Sarth wich has incredibly long straights). And dispite another commenter saying only the tires are different.... That couldn't be further from the truth.

      Essentially Ford are in the WEC as a publicity stunt. The road car was only released so they meet the rules and race. They are outspending everyone else in a 4-year period to win, but aside from Le Mans, where they sandbagged, they haven't done all that well, beaten by Aston in the WEC and Corvette in the American IMSA series.

    Just one question for anyone that has been watching WEC for a long time.If the RSR has a flat six and the aston has a v8, wouldn't mpg be a lot different. Does that mean the aston martin needs to add oil more often than the porsche during races?
