I went to a local Toyota dealership on a Sunday and parked my 2013 SR5 next to a 2023 Limited and a 2023 SR5; the difference in build quality was glaringly apparent. The redesigned 2022 & 2023 Tundra has a cheapness that is just hard to accept, especially at the prices being asked. I presently own two Toyotas and was considering purchasing a new Tundra; however, the quality of the new Tundra models isn't up to the standard I expect from Toyota.

I got 23 platinum trim. Seems spot on. No observable defects. No trim on windows like some models. Maybe that's the difference but the mfer seems spot on. Just drove it 450 miles over the weekend on short road trip. Solid. No sqeeks or rattles.

@caseysaunders2137 I would hope so. My 2006 Golf with 210,000 miles doesn't squeak or rattle.

Fast forward to 2024 and the Tacoma is nearly as bad. The worst part is that Toyota boosted MSRP's $15-20k higher like we wouldn't remember that it was just 2017 when a Tacoma TRD Pro started at $42k and now that's 2024 Tacoma SR pricing.

Solid points. Toyotas QRD philosophy is basically nonexistent on the Tundra. There are a lot of RUclipsrs that reiterate what you’re saying. Many of them had bought the new redesigned Tundra and experienced what you’re saying. This truck took so long to develop and this is the best Toyota can do? IMO Mike Sweers the head of design and development needs to go. He’s out of touch with the consumer and failed. I was looking for a new Tundra back in 18 I was looking at replacing my 07 I emailed Toyota asking about the redesign? Emailed me back saying it’s coming soon and even asked what would I like on the new Tundra. I had like many high hopes but got tired of waiting. Bought a new 2020. Glad I did.

I have tried to like the new tundra. I rented a 2wd sst and drove it for a week. It felt like an overgrown Tacoma to me. I like the Tacoma and I like the tundra more since I got to spend time with it but I don't think it compares to the old model. The cabin is smaller and fuel economy was only 2mpg better than the old tundra 4x4 5.7. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will make a midlife change to address the issues. Until that happens I will keep driving the old tundra.

I don't think Sweers had nearly as much control as he would like. Toyota forced this truck through and slacked on supplier quality checks. The big misses are less headroom and legroom, lower payload, larger turning radius, really, really bad programming for the infotainment system, plastic bumpers and several assembly problems that have been documented. I would never expected this many problems from so many areas from Toyota.

This appears to be the bashing channel! I recently purchased the 2023 Tundra and I love it. Most enjoyable truck I have owned. Ive had Ford and 2nd Gen Tundra and liked both too.
I primarily use my truck to haul my dirt bikes and tow a trailer.
With this 3rd Gen I like it as a commuter vehicle because its so much fun to drive. It's easy to find negatives and bash things and you would think one positive comment would be said? Nope? Use your common sense... may not have met your expectations but this thread is out of control. Truck is awesome and I am so happy I purchased it.

My 2023 tundra platinum hybrid was a mess. From whistling windows on the highway to air suspension riding on the bump stops from the factory. Had it for 8 days and had enough. Sold it. Owned a 2004 tundra for 15 years and it was really good. This gen is extremely disappointing for years 1&2.
I also have a 2020 highlander that needed to have the fuel tank replaced, the sender replaced, the drivers side window control switches replaced, and the rear hatch struts all before 30k miles and under warranty thankfully. Toyota isn’t what it used to be. Still less issues than other brands, but not what it once was.

When you buy a Toyota customers want liability durability and lasting power. I left safety out because I believe that’s a given. What we are seeing here with the 23 tundra is that the quality is going from worse to horrendous. These twin turbo engines are a time bomb of an engine that at some point have catastrophic failures that will cost the owner a fortune. This new generation of tundra (2022-23) is putting nicely a disaster.

I test drove the F150 and Silverado 1500, and wasn’t highly impressed. You can pick apart any vehicle if that’s your intent. @@AgentGeo From the perspective of someone trying to make a decision... can you list the problems you had instead of just saying you had problems? I currently own a 2022 Silverado Z71 Trail Boss 5.3 V8 fully loaded truck and I've never been more disappointed in a truck in my life! The fit and finish, glitchy infotainment system, noises, creeks, popping in suspension, paint issues, 2 recalls so far, 2 unexplained dead battery issues (this is an every day driver with no mods whatsoever) 3 times no start for no reason, poor fuel economy from what's stated, and all complaints are backed by many other owners. My Silverado only has 2245 miles on it. Not even an oil change yet with all these issues.
Ford Eco-Boost motors are having unreal amount of burned up turbos... and how they rate Dodge as #1? Dodge is notorious for poor resale and quality. I wouldn't touch that company if they paid me.
then vomiting it up with zero detail.

    • @AgentGeo
      @AgentGeo Год назад +6

@@jasonbodie586 Sure. I'd like to preface the rest of this by stating that the Raptor has always been my dream vehicle. That being said the TRD Pro was great initially but after about 4-5 months of ownership some little things really started to bug me. 1) mine developed wind noise from the moonroof and driver side window, 2) cheap plastic interior had already started to crack (driver seat side), 3) squeaky center console (DIY'd that), 4) rear window weather stripping would not align properly, 4) very poor turning radius, 5) high pitched humming noise coming from the hybrid regenerative braking system that toyota claimed was normal (this drove me nuts)...to mention a few. The one that really took the cake was the noise from the braking system. It truly made the driving experience unenjoyable for me. Still was a good truck but for $70K i expected better. Yes i know the Raptor is more expensive, but it checked all the boxes and like I had eluded to I have always wanted one. Hope that helps:)

Gotta say, I almost 100% disagree with everything said in this video. I truly hate pickup trucks but my wife's tundra has been one of the nicest ive driven and definitely been happy to own it so far. Handles extremely well for a truck, mileage is decent for what it is (averaging about 18.5 city and highway mixed). 4H and 4L work fine. it hauls what we need it to just fine, and the fit and finish we felt are really nice (good quality leather, no rattles or misaligned body panels). But those were crazy times my son and I went to 5 dealerships and only saw to 2 sales people in a few hours. lol. Here we go again. Picking on the Tundra. I own a 2022 1794 Tundra and I love it. Yes, it does have some issues just like every other truck out there. I had the Turbo Issue as well. However, it was fixed and is doing well. The gas mileage is way better than the old Tundra. I used to own a 2018 SR5 TRD Off Road and yes it was great, but terrible gas mileage. This new Gen definitely does better in power and mileage. You just have to know how to do it. You do great reviews, but let it go man.

Way better? I've watched enough videos on youtube including my man Tim Esterdahl at pickup trucks/suv talk, and he never got above 16 mpg average for city the entire year he owned it, and averaged 18-19 mpg highway for that year as well. He just sold it and has a video talking about the poor mpg.
That's the thing about the 2022 for us 2nd gen owners, when you calculate entry cost and performance and long-term costs with two turbos, two cooling systems, and all the issues that come with the first 2-3 years of a new model, you aren't going to make your money back until around the 200,000 mile mark. I'm a long term owner of my vehicles (10+ years). I had a 2002 Silverado, then a 2012 F150 Lariat. The latest GM gas engines (EcoTec since 2014) are prone to lifter failure with mass failures / high repair cost. I loved the F150, but it suddenly turned into a money pit at only 82k miles. Sure it was 10 years old and I fully expected things to fail like alternator/belts/radiator, etc, but in the span of 6 months both IWE's failed ($3000) then the Trans took a major dump ($2500) - Molded Lead Frame. Both issues I feel should be recalls. When I was told the molded lead frame part literally had NO ETA, which implies 10's of thousands of others are having the same failure, I jumped ship to a 2023 Tundra Platinum. I see no fit/finish issues whatsoever. It's drives great, feels solid AF, and tows my 5000 lb trailer smooth as butter. I'm trusting in Toyota quality and this will be the 3rd Yota currently in a stable of 5 total vehicles.

I LEASED 2023 Tundra and put about 500 miles on it and had my transfer case and front differential replaced .. It took over 3 months to replace the parts, because the truck model was new .. The Dealer was very helpful and gave me a TUNDRA for a loaner ,also the TOYOTA CORP. gave me a compensation package for the inconvenience ... I've been dealing with Toyota for 40 years ,because i been treated with respect as a costumer very good service.. I said to TOYOTA CORP. that i hope this is a millstone QUALITY MUST BE PRIORITY... They wanted me to purchase it, said NO not yet there is to many moving parts like 2 extra rads , hoses , electric motors , sensors , fuses , relays , wiring , turbo wastegates, twin turbos, ETC like i said just to many thing that can go wrong ... The question is how many Miles will you get before MAJOR things start to FAIL WILL I GET 250,000 MILES BEFORE REPAIRS ... These Trucks are not cheap NOWADAYS ....

None of what Toyota did with this new gen makes sense: They went from having the biggest Double and Crew cabs to shrinking both, they went to a turbo V6 that gets negligibly better gas mileage than the previous gen, their rear bumper is USELESS, the plastic is cheap, the infotainment is spoty, and they're not best in class torque or HP.
So glad I got my '21 Tundra. People buy Toyotas for reliability and simplicity.

I am in the market for a Pickup, need to do occasional towing of a horse trailer and compact tractor, but will mostly be using it in daily commutes to my office. I have owned and driven Lexus GX and LX SUV's since 2003 and beside a few quirky things, found them to be the most reliable vehicles that I have owned, certainly outperforming my Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon Denali by a long shot. But the new Toyota Tundra simply fails to resonate with me, too many engineering misses, flimsy plastic interior, horrible rear tailgate and bumper relative to all domestic manufacturers who are innovating ergonomics to make bed access an easier task, but not Toyota. The look of the Tundra is also rather polarizing with that front grill. I much prefer the aesthetics of the
out-going model. It looked beefier, more robust to m,. The front seats in the out-going model also felt superior, sturdier, if not also more comfortable. The rear of the 2021 Crew Cab also appears to be more spacious compared to the 2022/23 models. If you are going to eliminate the V8, replacing in with an inherently less reliable V6 Turbo, you better get significantly better gas mileage, and the the Tundra also fails in this department, only netting an improved fuel economy of 2 mpg. You can say, well the 6 cycle turbo produces higher Hp and torque compared to the old, indestructible V8, but does it really matter. Toyota could have modulated the V8, even put a turbo and hybrid system on one and produced more torque than the 6 cylinder engine. Tow with these 6 cylinder engines and watch fuel economy drop to low single digits and I would wager a bet, long-term durability and reliability towing with a 6 would suffer compared to an 8 cylinder engine, simple common sense.
