This song was originally written by James "Bo" Bohan, Don Goodman, and Mark Sherrill. It was first recorded by George Jones for his 1990 album You Oughta Be Here with Me. Don Goodman is one of my favorites, and Billy Contreras on the fiddle used to tour with George Jones. I felt like this would be a perfect cover to do while we were down in the mine for the Dick Clarke New Year's Eve session. This was an active mine and we were required to wear the hard hats. Yes, I do have a big head. Lol I appreciate all the support. Talk to you soon.
But you do it 3 times better.. I'm from Alabama where the Fort Payne band lives. I've been playing music over 50 years. And you are great! You are welcome to come here anytime. My neighbor. Retired from music and has a 5 year old recording studio if you ever want to look into it. Something for you to think about. But anyway keep up the great work you and your friends may choose. It's not the same studio that the Alabama band used. It's Much better. And it's only a block from where I live. 😊 ..
You know why I like you and support your music? It’s not because you can sing, play the guitar like no other, or come up with great songs. There are plenty of other artists that can do that too. It’s because you stayed true to who you are and didn’t sell out for the almighty dollar. Just like almost every single person has in the music industry.
There are a myriad of artist that haven't sold out. It reminds me of a story. When the Clash were accused of "selling out," Mick Jones replied, "I'm pretty sure a sell out is when there are no more tickets."
Being poor doesn’t make you any better of a person than a rich person. Wealth only amplifies the affect you can have on the world around you. A good person with means can make much more of a difference than a good person with nothing. Think of the parable of the Good Samaritan, there wouldn’t have been a story had the man not had enough wealth to share with the travelers.
@@Andrew-cs1td The Good Samaritan was amazing because in those times if you helped out a criminal you suffered the same fate as them so helping someone you didn't know was very risky. You were putting your life on the line helping someone you didn't know. That's why it's such a good story. They put their faith in that helping someone was better than not. Money is corruption. I'd stay "poor" and do things and I think that would carry a lot more "weight" than doing things with money that never works. Look at Mother Teresa? I respect Chris a lot for not signing a deal with the music companies. Right on Chris! God is good!
@ money is not corruption. You can do good or bad with money, and again had the Samaritan been poor, he could not have helped to begin with. Money only amplifies your morals. If someone is “corrupted by money” I’d wager they were “corrupt” before getting money as well. Mother Teresa used the foundation of Catholicism to fund her charity, again would have been much less effective without the wealth given to her cause.
It just doesn't play out that way in life, that those with money have greater power to do good. Being rich does grant you more power to move resource and material, but less power that comes from the humble intelligence of being connected with the earth, community, and lifeways that generate long term survival and balance. There's a cost to wealth hoarding, and it happens in your spirit and your intelligences. Hoarded privilege separates you from this earth. I do justice work - the people who have the most privilege, while well meaning, often cause the most harm and have the least lived intelligence to show up and do the work in a good way that actually generates community survival or "positive change" if you want to phrase it that way.

My granddaddy was a caol miner, got the black lung but kept on keeping on up until his 90s, what a giving and loving man he was. Cleaned out his shed out back and kept his miners helmet and a few carbide lamps… sure miss that man and Granny too!!!
Keep up the great music my man!!!
That powerful, soul filled, raw type of sounds is unparalleled! Absolutely AWESOME rendition!! You, sir, are a real one!! You've never sang a song that I didn't immediately fall in love with! My husband, children, and I really enjoy your music. Thank you for sharing it with us!
So, as we stand by, as we wait, we the people are standing On our knees. We thank you, Oliver Anthony, for speaking truth, for standing in the forefront pointing to the God of the Universe as the only HOPE FOR AMERICA. REVIVAL, ITS TIME!
Finally, someone singing this song I want to listen to!!!
Thank you. My people are factory workers, loggers and service workers. We all work hard and get paid more than a dollar can give you. Respect and providing for your family and helping neighbors. Nothing better. Love and proud of my people. Love the layered sound from mine. We have heard singing from Mammoth cave. It's a haunting sound but pretty. Thanks, Oliver! Happy New Year, and bless you and your family.
Love your version of this song! Well done!
I just wanna go out of my way to appreciate those people whose comments and good wishes encourages me and I hope to bring you guys so much entertainment
Damn the sound inside that mine really sets the tone for this sone, one of my favorites growing up
My dad picked up a stray mutt, just jumped in our van one day while we were fishing by the river. He named it Red, and often called him Ole Red. It makes me happy to hear your version of this song. Keep being true to yourself and bringing real music to real folks.
I'm a coal mineral from VA and let me tell you have many jobs but this job is a one i million man that will succeed and not get killed or can't handle it
Excellent, my grandfather started in the pits on his thirteenth birthday. All the best from the Rhondda valleys.
Even if I'm not a huge fan of a particular song - I'll always watch, and like his videos. In a world where celebrities are fine with steering their fans the wrong way for money. This man is a gem. No money can buy this man. It's more than 100% of celebrities today. God bless Oliver. Wishing you and your entire team continued success
Oliver you are the soul of country life GOAT. Keep doing what your doing the blessings you get are exactly what you give back in your music!
Great job! I like your version of this song better than Blake’s. You have such a fantastic voice gravely at times and it is always so powerful!
My family were coal miners here in Southern Indiana. Seeing you giving your concert at the bottom of a coal mine brought back a lot of memories of my dad and my uncles. Thank you so much for that.
Many Blessings to you, your family and your band in this new year. Keep on rockin’ in your soulful country way. You are definitely one of the best in today’s country music.
Much love,
💗 Debbie
Thank you for the kind words, Debbie. It means a lot to me.
The original recording was by the legendary Hoyt Axton…..fun fact: when Blake first moved to Nashville he lived and worked on Hoyt’s property……the rest is history
Best cover I've ever heard of this great tune.
Absolutely love his voice , doesn't try to hide that Southern drawl. I'm a proud Southerner and proud of his talent
Not really a country fan but there's something about this guys authenticity. He isn't trying to impress to make deals. He's just doing what he enjoys.
Love this! My Daddy was a coal miner. I appreciate you and your music!
Love, respect and God Bless ...from a fan in whats left of England, UK.🏴🇬🇧
