First time I seen Tony's Alfa was at Oran Park it was love at first sight. Aussie sports sedans are the hottest cars on the planet the amount of fabrication and engineering that goes into these things is on another level. No wonder a lot of these cars have been running around for 20+ years.
Yet, I'd LOVE a quick ( not too Hasty! ) review of each Car/Driver/# & Ranking, instead of trying to guess who's driving what... Oh, and btw, THIS kind of Racing is 'why' I no longer give a rat's tail about NASCAR. A 'singular body shell' in a Sponsor's rolling billboard is just Boring to watch.
Damn I’m from Germany and I’ve never heard of those cars, the older models are absolutely amazing! I want such a class over here in Germany! Insane to see an Opel Calibra downwunder haha. It surely is rwd or awd now and not the factory fwd right? Or are those all silhouette cars and have nothing to do with the real car? Is it just a plastic shell modeled after the real car?
I believe it's a silhouette formula. While the cars look like Alfas etc they aren't really. Look at the front of the Alfa for instance. I'm fairly sure most are powered by bit block Chevys. The Sports Sedan series has been running for a very long time.
I'll keep this simple. If someone is racing a legit Alfa Romeo in a motorsport. That is now my favourite motorsport. I have a LOT of catching up to do looks like
. . . and while the ubiquitous Chev continues to rack up win after win after win, the little children bolt turbos the size of houses on Barras that win nothing in the real world. The pushrod Chev V8 is 1930s technology released to the public in 1955 & it still reigns suppreme even when heavily outnumbered & totally surrounded by theoretically superior overhead cam engines. The Chev just keeps on delivering while all attempts to overwhelm it fall by the wayside. I really don't understand how that works, but it certainly does work. There's just something magical about that basic 1955 Chev engine layout that refuses to be beaten. The little Chev is just a mechanical miracle.
@@johnbrooks9523 Yes but it's boring and makes a joke of the class. There are other engines that will out perform LS's reliably but typically everyone copies each other. There are several suitable Mercedes race engines and as for turbo's, you missed that Sherriff Nissan putting out 1,100 hp and lapping Mt Panorama reliably, so fast that it got banned. Too many cheap arse engine builders and owners who can't go past anything more complicated than push rods.
@@johnbrooks9523 Cars with DOHC engines have a weight penalty. Engines are based on production engines, but NASCAR engines are also allowed. The top cars probably have NASCAR engines. The capacity limit is 6L, and turbos have an equivalency factor of 1.7, so a turbo engine can be no bigger than 3.529L. So the Barra is too big.
It is fascinating that ye old tried n true pushrod v8 still kicks arse. Having a weight penalty for DOHC engines makes it challenging though. I'd love to see a VK-56 in one of these front runners. Keen to see the big boys face off against the 3 fast rotors at SMSP. That'll be epic.
This is proper racing, v8 supercars is getting boring no such thing as parity its not going happen unless they have a generic car and just slap stickers on it
I used to remember when the sports sedan class was varied and actually interesting and v8 stupidcars didn't exist, that was before cams sold out and tried to appeal only to the bogan market.

nice to see a racing series where they don't just run 4 types of cars in different colours

The Alfa has/ had a Hewland transaxle. It was built like that in the 80s.
This is better than V8 supercars

Way better racing than crapy gen 3 car racing .

It only looks like an Alfa.
What’s happened to Crompton? Maybe he couldn’t afford the fuel or the air in his 2nd hand tyres?
Hmmm, doesn't matter what car it's in looks like, which Chev engine is going to win the race.

I thought that rotary Fiat was doing pretty well?

No SAAB?
An Alfa has never sounded so mean as that
My Dad Chris Donnelly
None of the cars are powered by their own power trans 😂😂😂😂
So? It's not a boring production based series.
