That's a great story! It is really something special to meet such a jazz legend in the city and casually ask to show you some tricks. If anything, that would be the major reason for me to move to the US.
I grew up around a lot of outstanding musicians Gospel,R&B,Jazz ,etc I used see T.Monk,Stevie,RayC,Q,DukeEll,BillyPreston.. and on & on...I too was Unaware of this Gaint.. While you can't really compare musicians... HIS MUSIC is the most MOVING I've EVER Experienced...just my View...what a beautiful SOUL!
Barry Doyle Harris (December 15, 1929 - December 8, 2021) was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, composer, arranger, and educator. He was an exponent of the bebop style.
RIP, Dr. Harris. Thank you for sharing the joy of jazz with all of us for so many years. Saw him play at the Jazz Bakery in LA many years ago. Ended the set with "Nascimento," with everyone in the audience singing and clapping along. We were all one.
Thanks for this wonderful upload. I just read the news that Barry Harris died today...we've lost another giant in his field. I have such huge reverence for folks who are well into their senior yrs. who are still practicing their artistic or academic pursuits.
Among the best top-ace pianists since the 1950’s. It’s lovely to see him playing and enjoying the tunes upon which he masterfully improvises. A real treat to see this master pianist at a live-gig swingin’ happily away. Enjoy & Cheers!
Barry Harris, chills!!! Rip 🙏 The excellence of Jazz. ❤ Thank you also, for this Strahinja at Dizzy's NYC . BARRY HARRIS TRIO. What a singer Alexis is !!!!!
Great respect for you Barry Harris my man, not many people of the skill of your generation around any more. I wish i had the money and time would last just a little longer so i could see you. much respect for you Barry Harris.
Great, great man. I'm in UK and had to look up 'Dizzy's'. Just three years ago I maybe could have aspired one day to travel to NY and go along and listen to such wonderful music. The Dizzy's website bears those two dread words 'temporarily closed'. Nothing temporary about it. The bastards have banned human joy and it's not coming back unless we make it come back.
God bless you Barry, a great man, and so musically cool. Thanks for for the many enjoyable nights at Bradley's on University Place.... feel so blessed by being so close to your positive vibes.
Trying to transcribe the cadence from 4:52 to 4:57. After the B7 with G# on top I wrote a melody of B-E-C-B-D-Bb-A with a C#7#9, Bb9, A9, G#9b5, F#7, F9 under it. Thoughts? Amazing interjection between a V-I.
He reminds me of the great Cuban jazz players father and son Chucho and Bebo Valdes . Check them out playing a classical piece arranged to jazz in Fm named ‘la comparsa ‘Amazing
I really love and enjoy every thing he does and encourages me more on trying to get to play as him followinfolg the same path as the so called JAZZ pianist wonderful
Ha, i just saw the trio at the vanguard, the whole time the bassist had these gaping wide eyes like a guy across from him at a poker table just pulled out a gun. So tense. The drummer by contrast looked like a buddhist monk sitting peacefully with his eyes closed on a rock flowing without any excess. And then you have barry half having an orgasm singing “SKIDDLY AH BUH BA BOOP DEEDLE APBA DOO BA DAA”. Finest trio around.
Does anybody know what the sub pianist is while Barry is singing during Em-Barry-Harris-Able You? Barry says the name at the end at 41:57 but I can't catch it.
Great playing. I wish they’d turn the vocal mic down while he’s playing piano solos though. I understand he vocalized through them, but I don’t believe that was intended to be so present in what the listener hears.
Rest In Peace to an absolutely beautiful soul. Thank you so much for everything Barry Harris.
Yes, thank you Barry!!
What a GIAND musician , teacher and human ! Rest in peace Mr. Harris !

Around 1954 I saw Barry play in Detroit and asked him about a passage in "Un Poco Loco' which he showed me how to play it.
That's a great story! It is really something special to meet such a jazz legend in the city and casually ask to show you some tricks. If anything, that would be the major reason for me to move to the US.
Don Preston are you THE Don Preston from the Mothers??? If so, then hey! you are a legend :-)
Hi Don, Aren't we lucky to be from Detroit? It's too bad that not everyone can be from Detroit.
Memories are like treasure that grows when you share, thanks for sharing yours - we are all a little richer.
Jesus Christ yall are old 1954 wow
THIS is jazz music! R.I.P. maestro
I honestly didn't know he was even alive, much less playing still! A true living legend and we're lucky to have him!
Jazz pianists play until their last day on Earth 🙂
A living legend, for sure.
my teacher here in sydney australia studied with him in NYC in the 90s and taught me all he taught her. love it!!
He passed away this week just a few days shy of his 92nd birthday. Perhaps you have seen the outpouring of grief and appreciation on the internet.
@@howardherrnstadt7367 Thank you for letting me know, although I'm sorry to hear it.
Rest easy, Barry.
Go and join all your friends from your good ole’ days. We will keep you alive in our hearts here.

The Master!
Agree with the crowd at 25:29 - line absolutely slapped
@Andrew H It was good
I have had always the impression that contrabass players move their hands as they please, giving us the idea that they are on an upper level... BOH!!!
To Barry with Love
I still play the small chords Sir.
Thanks so much for sharing !
Rest easy Legend, and hey thanks for teaching a Cat.
Show lessons live! Thanks!
5:57 Ray disagrees with Barry

loool, hilarious little spot
Took five listens to hear it. Then it’s obvious. I guess my ears aren’t equal to these guys. Funny. Keep playing. The audience won’t hear it.
I wanna touch rays hands.
😂
조타아~~~~~♡
Rest in peace
The bassist is pretty good too.
❤
legend!
This is great but the concert with Russell Hall was amazing too.
2:00 wow
Who wrote the tune at 27:12? I absolutely must have those lyrics so I can sing this. OMG
Anybody know the piano player backing up Barry on his singing, track 6? thanks!
First song sounded a little like Misty That bass player looks like he is mad. LOL
Nah, he just playing that jazz bass so stanky that he can smell it.
Ha, i just saw the trio at the vanguard, the whole time the bassist had these gaping wide eyes like a guy across from him at a poker table just pulled out a gun. So tense. And then you have barry half having an orgasm singing “SKIDDLY AH BUH BA BOOP DEEDLE APBA DOO BA DAA”. Finest trio around.
The first song sounded like a mix of different jazz songs lul
A Noghingale Sang In Barkeley Square. It was quite verbatim.
Does anybody know what the sub pianist is while Barry is singing during Em-Barry-Harris-Able You? Barry says the name at the end at 41:57 but I can't catch it.
How does one spell the name of the pianist who played Em-BH-able You?

I heard it called Paradise
On most days of the year I’m so happy about not living in America. On the rest of the year I wish I had the chance to meet my heroes.
Grace… wa
Grace… in walked Barry. Grace… up.
I wish someone looked at me the way the bassist looks at Barry :,(

If it's not in suggested, try directly on my channel. It's there. Cheers!
@@StrahinjaBoljevic Oh, Thanks Guy~ I like Performance in Dizzy's for jazz musician, have a nice day
Great playing. I wish they’d turn the vocal mic down while he’s playing piano solos though. I understand he vocalized through them, but I don’t believe that was intended to be so present in what the listener hears.
The vocalizing is intended, and invaluable.
?
Thought he started with misty haha
A Nightingale Sang In Barkley Square. It is a Standard.
Bass didn’t need no vocals
