@@michaelshepherd885 Who fucking cares? Who if not those boys (often girls incl.) proved again and again and again that they can play no matter where, studio or live? May they live long and never ending prosper.
I noticed they don't show Mike at all, he seems a lot thinner and he stays in one spot and just sways back and forth. I bet he was already sick and trying to stick it out. Such a shame when such a horrible disease hits younger people with so much life to live still. In Mike's case, so much talent left to give.
Did Tony sing the chrous of Africa? I think it sounds like a live version of 2003, because in Rosanna Bobby sounds different. And yes, I know that erverything is playback
I am pretty sure they recorded this live and then used it for live tv playback. The entire piece is on a summer edition of the single bottom of your soul. It bets doing a playback to the studio version of a ancient cd.
Love this band and this medley but unfortunately this is not them playing as there are no mics on the drums and they have no stage monitors or in ear monitors at all. Not their fault, it was probably the producers.
No need to download I've allready had Toto live Paris 1990, Live in Amsterdam and Fallin' in between ;-) I'm just very surprised about the position of the pickup selector. Take a Musicman with EMG stuff on the neck pickup, play a CAE 3+ and hear the sound... it sounds like a boosted Hendrix, but not as heavier as this video.
Have anyone looked at the korg oasys and triton? No powercable, no jackcables? Simons drumset isn't miced up and. But I will give you that SOME OF the vocalwork is live!
Mike was having trouble playing bass too cos of the numbness in his hands and the fact that his cognition was faltering. Really sad, you can see the stress in his face
Voice yes, guitar playing I don't think so. Look at Lukather guitar pickup selector (2:16-2:26), the Musicman is on the neck pickup. It's impossible to have this sound with a single coil neck pickup. I think they have recorded a backing track specially for this meddley and they sing live on it.
it's pre recorded... before the show, they don't just play an recording from 1982 ;) luke misses the mic at one point, no mics on the drums, keys have no jacks ;)
major f*uck ups happens to the best sometimes... and on tv, you don't want that :)) and the best clue here must be that Luke uses an electric guitar on Bottom of your Soul...
I think we've already covered that - and by a much kinder poster than you. Perhaps you should read the other comments where I eat my words. I was simply tired of people writing 'ugh lip-synching!' as if it's a slight to the talent of this band. I know them well and if they've pre-recorded this session, it's for a reason and not to simply cop out from playing live - which they always do with great aplomb!
I this is live - Greg owns the worlds first battery-driven Korg keyboards in history and also the first to keyboards in history to be completely wireless (output). Simon is always sharp on the drums - he's one of the worlds best drummers, but in this case, he is playing a standard (small compared to Simons usual) without any mics. In Bottom of Your Soul, Simon snaps his fingers which is just as loud as the snare drum? The vocals are live I'm sure, but nothing else here is...
mauvninG And you're a clueless dumbass. Toto always plays live and yes, you can have wireless keyboards. Are you really that clueless? Look at Lawrence Gowan's keyboard he uses with Styx for example. Also, you don't need the a huge kit to pull off these 3 songs, especially when you're Simon Philips.
ATalkingBadger you are clueless. The instruments are playback. There arent even cables pluged in ( not even cables going to wireless packs) and the drumset is not miced up.
ATalkingBadger I believe Lawrence uses wires for his keyboard as well. There may be contacts in the bearing which allows it for its infinite rotation. Not quite sure what the situation is for Greg’s keyboard here.
Why do people keep talking about playback and lip synching here? I know Toto like the back of my hand and all three singers are LIVE here! It's so obvious; there are too many natural vocal glitches (when Toto use ANY kind of pre-recording it is always technically PERFECT, there are no 'bum notes'!) I don't know enough about drums to comment on those here (but Simon seems pretty damn sharp on them if he is 'miming'!) Steve's guitarwork is not from any album version I'VE ever heard - he's live!
for some reason it doesn't sound like tony it sounds like Bobby recorded before this he was always able to hit note's in studio but not live in his last few years of toto
Stephen Mountenay-Henhawke Then one of 2 things happened: 1. He hit one of the many pedals on his pedal board and switched from distorted to acoustic. 2. Tony Skinner was playing off of the stage. You must not know much about guitars, but I can make my Ibanez Destroyer sound like an acoustic guitar. It doesn't take a guitar expert to do that. However, Steve Lukather is THE guitar expert. Don't ever doubt him or Toto.
Never even NOTICED the lack of jacks on the keyboards - well spotted Eagle Eye! I guess if it's only recorded before the show, it explains the lack of polish vocally. Didn't know they did quick show recordings beforehand, thank you for filling me in, I stand corrected! Can't see why they'd do that though as they're exactly the same live - and then there'd be no missing of the mic either! Maybe it's in case of major f*ck ups!
The great Mike Pocaro. Rest in peace!

Yep I noticed that too.

LOOOOOOOL XDDDD
For real that’s exactly the expression he makes and I fully understand him 😂

I think Ian Gillan and Bobby Kimball have the most powerful voices in rock history.
True, chorus in Africa is fake here though.
I agree with you Joseph Enrique 100%. Especially Bobby Kimball.

Africa/Rosanna/Bottom of Your Soul
Smallest kit I ever seen Simon play. lol
Looks like the TV show provided it for him. It looks pretty damn cheap, looks kind of ironic to see him play on it.
i came here to say this
I was thinking the same thing! Funny to see him on a 5 piece, but he could make a child’s toy set sound GREAT!!!
Sounds like Tony’s backups though he’s not there.
