What an unbelievably astounding group of musicians. Ringo is a tremendous drummer, singer, and legendary person. His choice of musicians to make up the band really is " All Starr". If the millennial group would pay attention to the gift of fine music, they could actually claim they can listen.
I don't get the criticism of Ringo. He's closer to 80 than he is to 70. I don't know many people who still work a full-time job at his age! I like seeing him enjoying himself with his friends and showcasing the astounding talents he puts together onstage all at the same time!
It's not about his age NOW. He was NEVER a good drummer. Period. He sucks. I think that back in the day, Starr was the dude who happened to have the drumkit and his parents let the Beatles use their garage or something. That's why they kept him. He was an awful drummer. I highly suspect that 80% of the drum work on Beatles albums wasn't Starr at all.
Ewout Honig he didn’t join them until just before they hit big. Pete Best was the original drummer. So, no...he wasn’t hanging out with them because his parents let them use their basement.
I took a bus from Baltimore to Pittsburgh just to see his show last year. It was one of the most unforgettable experiences I've ever had. His legend status is well earned.

A historical concert because in addition to Ringo (Beatles) there were Steve Lukater (Toto) Gregg Roolie (Santana) Grahan Gouldnman (10 CC) and Colin Hay (Men at Work). It doesn't happens every day to see one of the Beatles on stage one of the founders of the Santana band that played in Woodstock.
@@JanBulin I never heard him do any of David's parts on Africa, in the 2000 summer tour Bobby was there for those parts as Jeff babko couldn't do them, and from 2003 to 2008 Greg phillinganes did those parts.

Richard Page's voice is just so prefect on this song! He can hit those high Tones perfectly! Toto should totally have him singing the Chorus on their concerts!
Yes, you are right about that, I think it was Not a helpful touch. The guy can play but stepping through bunch of notes almost random is out of tune and out of timing to me...
I started looking at some of Toto's videos because a tune from the 80's suddenly came up my head, Stranger In Town" and I dig that video! (It inspired me to start learning After Effects after sitting on my computer doing nothing). Damn it was Toto! Don't recall having it in my best of Toto cd. Then I came to this video- Ringo on drums as guest - no it's his All Star Band with Toto in his band, and Billy Joel's sax player. And I vaguely remember that Togo may have been an opening band for Yes at one time. Really underrated! This band has some awesome vocals, the way The Moody Blues used to harmonize in the 70's. Great stuff!
Absolutely right....this is Ringo's All Star Band featuring Billy Joel's sax player and members of Toto. Todd Rudgren is on stage as well. This was at the Ryman Auditorium where I saw them one year ago. Richard Page sounds great, remember Mr. Mister? They played 'Kyrie' also and it was great!

What a great concept Ringo's had with bands past and present-starting with The Beatles- the ultimate. He's a Beatle, but compared to Sir Paul, he needed to have All Starr bands to attract audiences. And some of the greats like here. Doesn't look like you could go wrong with any of the lineups. And Ringo's some cool songs of his own. I don't think son Zak, when not tiring with The Who, would be on any of his All Starr bands. Ringo would feel intimidated drumming next to Zak. He picked up with Keith Moon left off
It's only Steve Lukather in this, the guitarist from Toto. They are starting another tour tonight in the US as well, starting with an 8-date run at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Toto have been touring the US the last few years as well - they just completed a tour with Pat Benatar, where they killed it! Don't miss them if they ever come near you!
I'm not certain but I think he was touring with Billy Joel for many years. He's multi-instrumentalist but probably best with saxophone. Amazing musician.
Steve Lukather sounds absolutely amazing! I know it's Paich's song, but Steve really does a great job singing it. Richard Page is also wonderful in this. I get to see them in November and I can't wait!
I just seen Ringo and the All Star Band in Binghamton, NY on September 18th. The show was amazing! Ringo and the rest of the band have definitely aged well.

I typically listen to a song once or twice, then move on to the next but, when I heard Richard Page belt out those high notes, my spirit came alive...I cannot lie, I must have listened to this a dozen times...God blessed that man with an incredible voice, it lifted my spirit like nothing before.
What an excellent live version of this classic song. In my opinion this is the best sounding All-Starr band that Ringo has ever put together. They sing one great song after another. Thanks for posting this video.
I saw this line up at The Lyric Theater in Baltimore. One of the best concerts I've ever attended. Folks dancing in the aisles and in their seats. And singing every word. Having Rollie in the lineup gave us Santana and Journey songs. I encourage anyone to see the all star band if you can. If you don't have a good time at these shows then there's something wrong with you.
I was so into this song before my baby boy was born, which for some reason I haven't payed attention all these years. Now it became his first birthday theme: Africa! Thank you Ringo and Toto!
It's great to hear Richard Page singing lead in the chorus. Did you know that he was offered the job as lead singer of TOTO back in 1983 when Bobby Kimball left the band?
Also, of note, is the fact that Richard is singing the lead totally by himself. Kimball used to do that, WAY early on, but lately it's been double by one or more singers. Like, Kimball with Tony Spinner at one point and then Joe Williams with one of the backup singers. So that's impressive on Richard's part. Also, I'm pretty sure David Paich and Kimball sang that part in unison on the album cut but Paich decided not to do that live for whatever reason.

Lukather, Rundgren, Rolie, Richard Page (who can still can sing his ass off) Greg Bissonette & Billy Joel's wood/brass winds guy, Richie Cannata.....Only a former Beatle could pull together a band like this. I saw this lineup of Ringo’s All Starr Band back on 23rd March 2013 in Brisbane (which coincidentally was 50 years to the day the The Beatles recorded their debut album). Bass player Richard Page was from Mr Mister, the keyboardist was from Santana, Todd Rundgren on guitar, and Steve Lukather. They also played Hold The Line and Rosanna that night. Magic.

I was at a Ringo concert and his All Star Band in June 2018, it was great. Ringo, 78 years old , sang and played for more than 2 hours.

He was actually offered the position as TOTO's lead vocalist back in the 80's but turned it down because of his band MR.Mister
He was actually offered the job when Toto’s original singer Bobby Kimball was fired, but he declined.

That's true but he was also offered the job as lead vocalist of Chicago but turned them both down and stayed in Mr.Mister
