      It's not about his age NOW. He was NEVER a good drummer. Period. He sucks. I think that back in the day, Starr was the dude who happened to have the drumkit and his parents let the Beatles use their garage or something. That's why they kept him. He was an awful drummer. I highly suspect that 80% of the drum work on Beatles albums wasn't Starr at all.

    I started looking at some of Toto's videos because a tune from the 80's suddenly came up my head, Stranger In Town" and I dig that video! (It inspired me to start learning After Effects after sitting on my computer doing nothing).
    Damn it was Toto! Don't recall having it in my best of Toto cd. Then I came to this video- Ringo on drums as guest - no it's his All Star Band with Toto in his band, and Billy Joel's sax player.
    And I vaguely remember that Togo may have been an opening band for Yes at one time.
    Really underrated! This band has some awesome vocals, the way The Moody Blues used to harmonize in the 70's. Great stuff!

    • @specx2010
      @specx2010 8 лет назад +4

      Absolutely right....this is Ringo's All Star Band featuring Billy Joel's sax player and members of Toto. Todd Rudgren is on stage as well. This was at the Ryman Auditorium where I saw them one year ago. Richard Page sounds great, remember Mr. Mister? They played 'Kyrie' also and it was great!

    • @designerlarry
      @designerlarry 8 лет назад +1

      specx2010 sure to remember Mister Mister, mister! Is he Toto's original vocalist from the studio album?
      What a great concept Ringo's had with bands past and present-starting with The Beatles- the ultimate. He's a Beatle, but compared to Sir Paul, he needed to have All Starr bands to attract audiences. And some of the greats like here. Doesn't look like you could go wrong with any of the lineups. And Ringo's some cool songs of his own.
      I don't think son Zak, when not tiring with The Who, would be on any of his All Starr bands. Ringo would feel intimidated drumming next to Zak.
      He picked up with Keith Moon left off

    I saw this line up at The Lyric Theater in Baltimore. One of the best concerts I've ever attended. Folks dancing in the aisles and in their seats. And singing every word. Having Rollie in the lineup gave us Santana and Journey songs. I encourage anyone to see the all star band if you can. If you don't have a good time at these shows then there's something wrong with you.

    I was so into this song before my baby boy was born, which for some reason I haven't payed attention all these years. Now it became his first birthday theme: Africa! Thank you Ringo and Toto!

    It's great to hear Richard Page singing lead in the chorus. Did you know that he was offered the job as lead singer of TOTO back in 1983 when Bobby Kimball left the band?

    • @jaggass
      @jaggass 8 лет назад +18

      That's true but he was also offered the job as lead vocalist of Chicago but turned them both down and stayed in Mr.Mister

      Ironically, Toto also considered Jason Scheff at some point before he replaced Peter Cetera in Chicago.

      Also, of note, is the fact that Richard is singing the lead totally by himself. Kimball used to do that, WAY early on, but lately it's been double by one or more singers. Like, Kimball with Tony Spinner at one point and then Joe Williams with one of the backup singers. So that's impressive on Richard's part. Also, I'm pretty sure David Paich and Kimball sang that part in unison on the album cut but Paich decided not to do that live for whatever reason.

    ......Probably one of the best Ringo Starr All-Stars ever assembled. Just look who makes up this band. Lukather, Rundgren, Rolie, Richard Page (who can still can sing his ass off) Greg Bissonette & Billy Joel's wood/brass winds guy, Richie Cannata.....Only a former Beatle could pull together a band like this. Hail Ringo!!

    I saw this lineup of Ringo’s All Starr Band back on 23rd March 2013 in Brisbane (which coincidentally was 50 years to the day the The Beatles recorded their debut album). Bass player Richard Page was from Mr Mister, the keyboardist was from Santana, Todd Rundgren on guitar, and Steve Lukather. They also played Hold The Line and Rosanna that night. Magic.
