Blue & Grey was originally written by V when he wasn’t at his best. He intended to use it for his mixtape at first. But then Covid happened and they made the BE album, about their emotions on the pandemic, and they felt like the song should’ve been in the album. So if you feel like V has such an amazing presence in this song, then that’s why.
I saw this song live, truly something so beautiful that I’ll never forget. I feel like this is a song everyone should know.

Thanks for this one Luke. I believe it was originally written in English by V as a solo song but they all loved it and it was re-written in Korean and added to their Be album. It was a reflection of V's struggles with depression at the time, something I'm sure all the members have gone through at different times. So beautiful 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The pandemic in particular hit them really hard. They missed us just as much as we missed them. 😢

When V originally wrote this it was to include on his mixtape, but the group loved it so much it became a group song. It is so hauntingly beautiful, sad but sweet. V voiced what he was going through at the time, but I think most of us have had times when we have struggled and felt the same way. This song makes me cry every time - partly because I have felt those same feelings but also knowing that V was in such a sad and lonely place is heartbreaking. Just shows that being one of the most popular people in the world does not exclude you from loneliness and sadness.
Such a beautiful song. When you said "you can't do this to me, Jimin highs and V lows" I knew the harmonies were coming and you were screwed🤣. Those harmonies are sublime💜
Do you know that Taehyung wrote the song? It was during the pandemic, and initially was supposed to be in his mixtape. It contains his emotions and thoughts in the time, lockdown and all. But then they decided to put it out as a group song. And it's beautiful. But that's probably why you feel his voice was perfect for the song 💜
I feel you, Luke. This is a song I can't listen to without crying. I actually usually only listen to it when I NEED a good cry along with Spring Day, they're not in my everyday playlists by any means, because they are too precious to me.
Originally intended to be included on V's solo mixtape, the song was released on November 20, 2020, as the third track on the BTS album BE. It was written and composed by V, Suga, Hobi, RM and other BH producers and songwriters. The song reflects about BTS’ (and Tae’s) uncertainty and restlessness during the pandemic. A slow, tender pop ballad, its lyrics reflect on depression, burnout, anxiety, and pandemic-induced loneliness using the colors blue and grey.
Taehyung has said it himself…he wrote this song as a way to cope when he was feeling the most low. He expresses more about it in his Weverse magazine interview, and I’ll give you the link below, but since you asked for my opinion, I’m going to tell you what I personally thought the meaning is and how much I think it has helped and affected Kim Taehyung.

“I wrote “Blue & Grey” during my hardest times. It was a time when I debated on whether or not I should continue this career.”
“It seemed difficult to enjoy work and the road I was on seemed meaningless. It felt like I was in a tunnel and I couldn’t see the exit. I think it’s correct to say that I couldn’t see the path that I was supposed to be on.”
"It was during a time when work was really hard. I am someone that likes to work when I am happy and want to show my best to my fans but there were so many things I had to do. I’m a laid-back person, but because things got so hectic, I became broken. So it was very difficult for me and I thought about what was at the end of the road that I am currently on.”
V later went on to add, “Success is important, but I chose to be a singer to become happy but why wasn’t I happy now? That is how I started writing ‘Blue & Grey’.”
Near the end he commented on how the song helped him heal his issues. “I once had a problem like this before. It was really difficult back then. But I couldn’t keep carrying these feelings with me, so I felt that these feelings could be the basis for something. So I kept writing my feelings in a note pad and used it to write lyrics.”
“As I continued to jot down notes, I thought about using it to write a song. After writing it, I felt a sense of accomplishment and I was able to let go a bit of my ‘Blue & Grey’. It was one of the ways for me to overcome my problems.”
While concluding he shared some helpful alternatives for those with struggling family members. “When someone is depressed, instead of just saying ‘cheer up’, it’s better to say ‘I see you are depressed these days’ or ‘You can’t feel better now just because someone says to cheer up’. The same goes for ‘Blue & Grey’.”
The feelings he wanted to convey through his curated masterpiece revolved around self-discovery and support. V aimed for fans to feel connected in times of struggle and know that when “You’re depressed, I am too. We are the same. Shall I talk about your feelings in your heart now?’ You want to me happy now, right? In the midst of all this, something keeps coming at you like a wave, doesn’t it?’ These are the things I wanted to convey in my song.”
It's amazing when you think about it that this song was written out of heartbreak and feeling low, something so beautiful came from something so sad. 💜

It's so amazingly gorgeous and always makes me cry as well.
I'm one of the folks who requested this on the poll for weeks, and it wasn't solely to make you cry. Things can be rough, and having a song like "Blue and Grey" in your arsenal can be so healing. On the days when the world seems to hold you back, when you feel so sad that even breathing is a trial, it helps so much to know that these people you admire and care for have gone through the same thing, and this song feels like they're holding your hand and sticking beside you.
Fun Fact: V wrote this song for his personal project, but the boys and the company loved it so much they begged him to let them record it for an album.💜💜💜
At the beginning when Tae sings, Where’s my Angel?’ I knew this was going to be sad because Tae has an Angel he talks to and if they’ve gone he must be feeling bereft and lonely. He has such a unique way of speaking English which I find charming. They all did such a great job that I hope he was pleased that it became a group song. This song makes me want to fold them in my arms and tell them it will be alright. BTS certainly know how to tug at the heartstrings.
You need to hear the original song. The voice melodies Jin and JK, Jimin and V has is so beautiful. Especially in jimin and V's part, i got chills. Seriously, they know how wonderful and chilly the mixes of these two voices is. Everytime they do voice melodies, its always these two voices. Also, same to jin and jk, its just so perfect. I hope we can get more and longer versions of these.💜
I remember staying up the night BE was released, and hearing this song for the first time. I didn't even need lyrics and I was just sitting in the dark crying alone lol I was afraid to read the lyrics at that point but this song is so beautiful.

I cried my eyes out when this song came out during the pandemic. I think it was the release so many of us needed.

Such a beautiful song and every time I hear it I cry. The vocals and lyrics just hit me right in the heart. And knowing that V felt this way always makes me sad.
About their enlistment....I am so fucking proud of them going. Yes...it's hard for Army, but in the West it's normal to have a few years between albums and 2025 is right around the corner. I know they wouldn't leave us just hanging there, they prepared a lot of content and we are getting so much music from them. And we will always have at least 1 or 2 members with us. By the time JK is going, Jin will be back!! Meanwhile I pray that they will be safe but I do think that this truly is what they want because they also see serving in the millitairy as an honor. We have to respect that. Please be ready to give Jin your support tomorrow and stream "The Astronaut"!! He deserves to go knowing that he is well loved!!

Taehyung wrote this during the pandemic and he said he wasn't sure anyone would remember them... or that anyone would care about seeing them again. They all went through a bad time in the beginning. He sang a piece of it - the original version, on In the Soop 2 in the summer of 2021. It was really sad. But he said he felt better after he wrote about it. 💜😇💜usa
BE has a special place in my heart as it was released on my birthday. The album tells the whole story of the pandemic with so much emotion from feeling down with B&G, to a reality check with Life Goes On, to jumping up and getting positive with Stay, and everything in between. I love it.💜

I absolutely adore hearing the boys sing Blue & Grey together (this with Zero O'Clock are my more recent tear jerkers) but I realllly want to hear V's solo version of this & hope it's included as part of his solo album.
This was Tae's beautiful lyricism after being inspired by what Namjoon said about the world seeming to be grey during the pandemic! It talks about anxiety, depression and all the burnt out feeling one goes through during this phase. Phew, give BTS a chance to make us cry and they'll make us bawl....in a good way though!! And the harmonies between jk and jin and then tae and jimin, there's nothing more heavenly sounding than that. They take you to another realm with the emotions they bring with their voices.
I think next you should give 'heartbeat' a listen. It has stunning vocals and is one of their long-forgotten songs that never got performed 😢 Another one in the list along with louder than bombs!!!

Thank you for this reaction. I am 69 and have experienced the loss of parents & the loss of a dear brother. Plus a lot of other gut wrenching things. My emotions have become somewhat immune as I have aged, but Blue & Grey always brings tears to my eyes. Taehyung is my bias so this strikes even deeper. 💜💜💜

I can count on one hand songs that make me cry, and the first time I ever heard this I sobbed for twenty minutes. The lyrics just resonant so hard with me.

Love this song, I cry a lot when I first listen to it. But in this MTV Unplugged ? It was even more emotional, their voices are so crystal clear, so pure ... And guy, I love your reaction, your emotion and your reflexions. All the discography of BTS is meaningful, because through their music and albums, they share their growth, thoughts, and history. But they find a way to make them universal, they transcend their personal storylife and struggles and made them relatable for everybody. So, I agree with you, this sad song hurt twice, one because we can all related to this mood, twice because we know that BTS express their own feelings and raw emotions. One day in your video, you said "no one hits me like BTS do. They have a way of connecting with you, a way to reaching into your chest and just wrapping their hands around your heart"... This sentence get struck in my memory, because it's so true !

I've not been about much due to ill health but I try to keep up with all things BTS so yes, the news hits hard but I personally am so proud of them. I will support them in everything they do.

I've dealt with depression for years, and never before has a song captured so well what it feels like. I became ARMY when the BE album dropped, and this song is largely why. This is one of my absolute fav BST songs, but I can't listen to it often because it really hits me. Not sure why now of all times, but watching this just now gave me the idea to get a blue question mark tattoo.

Oh, Luke, I always hate seeing you cry. At the same time I love that you are so willing to be open with your emotions. And there is something beautiful about watching the way you get lost in a song like this. The absolute awe, even as tears are falling, perfectly reflects the beauty and emotion of the song.

So many of their songs are based on experiences in their lives, it does hurt to think they have faced such sad times, in this case, especially V, but it is the most stunning song-their voices, as always, take us to a special place and this is a sad one and the tears fell. I guess it suits the mood for all of us right now, knowing they will all be enlisting in the military soon. It is something I know they are doing for it is their duty to country, so an admiral thing for them to be doing, but it also scares me. These 7 young men (they aren't "boys" anymore) have lived together as brothers, worked and played hard all of these years-as trainees and now idols-ones who have become the best in the world, and the idea of them walking into the military and a regimented, controlled, harsh lifestyle, the likes of which they have never encountered before will not be easy for them. The isolation from each other will be so painful for them, I have to think? The physical demands will be a challenge for a few, I fear-Jin and V more so than the others, I imagine, but it will be hard for them all I have to think. JK & Jimin will fare the best, no doubt, but facing all of these things alone, without their brothers, will be difficult. I hate to think this could change them being such a very different life-one they will find so foreign and perhaps cold, if that makes any sense? I know they will get through it, but I just pray it doesn't change how they see the world, or destroy the bond they have. I hope they know we, their ARMY, will be here for them. 😔💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
