Great guy i saw him play everytime i could and was never disapointed. Absoloutly the best. So glad i was around to see him.
What a great find!
Fantastic, and very interesting docoumentary. I am a Springsteen fan from Norway. I spent my summer vacation in New Jersey in 1983. I was 18 ears old and was completely in love with the sound of Asbury Park. I remember seeing Bill Chinnock in concert at The Stone Pony. The place was packed, and Bill and the band put on a tremendous show. When I look back on it I consider myself very lucky to have seen him live. I remember George Theiss was in the audience, he was on fire!
Bill had incredible energy on stage. He ruled the crowd with his incredible songs of people, places. and things like emotions, anger and rage. He could go on stage from a soft lyrical phrase to a loud in your face yelling but into the air. He was theatrical in his music. People came to dance but to listen with intent to his stories of love and lost. Bill was fantastic. I would travel with my sister who opened often for Bill. Great fun! The musicians were all really together. The synergy was papable. I was so sad when I heard he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. So sad it took our King away. I loved watching them them play together. Miss you Bill and your rock and roll music! You were the best!
Thank you so much for putting this together. I saw Bill many times from The Red Stallion in Carrabassett Valley, to the Solon Hotel, the 9 1/2, the Kit Kat, and The Loft. From age 18 to 24 he was huge to me and continues to be this day.
So lucky my older brother turned me on to Bill. I got to see him twice down in the Village in the early 80's. His music, man, his music was just so perfectly rock n roll. It just spoke to me. I am grasping at words but I don't think there are any that would do him justice. My brother got to be buddies with Bill and he even called me on my 16th birthday. Too cool. Thank God we still have his music, but man what a tragic loss.
Saw Bill many times in the 80's....loved his music and his live shows were awesome! I have been trying to get a cd of Dime Store Heroes as I only have the album, but have had no luck finding a copy. Thank you for posting the documentary!
Some of the greatest moments of my late teen life were spent dancing and being part of the amazing energy of Bill's performances at the Red Barn in Monroe Maine. I think it was 1975 and 76.
Me too, and the Show Ring in Brewer.
We would see Bill every time he played at the Jersey Shore. Remember standing in front of him kicking his leg at Big Man's West.
Excellent doc! I have always felt that I would have followed Bill and His Band everywhere, like a DeadHead, had I been able. NOBODY's shows had my feet MOVIN, nor my heart RACIN, like Bill's. He hand-picked some of the best mates, who made that unmatched SOUND with him. I played 'at' bass, compared to his bassists! Drummers extroardinaire, and cats like Sam and Harry, who SWUNG hard along their journeys with him. I would have had a hole in my life without him, and his music!
Wonderful documentary - beautifully done - now I am a new fan - hoping to learn more about songwriting from this hometown hero...
iI was bills roadie dime store heroes. I still have a scar long story.
Great tribute! Really well done! What's the song playing just before the 25 minute mark?
