I was teenager in Asbury in the 1980's. It was a pretty scary place back then. Amazing how nice it is today!

Asbury Park was the greatest place to go as a young person in the 60's and 70's. My family stayed in Bradley Beach during the Summers and I walked to Asbury Park every night to partake in everything she offered.

Yeah I lived and work there for a contractor that was going to revitalize the whole area.. everybody glosses over that.. ocean Mile project. 300 ocean avenue.. somewhere in the long the line some political figure didn't get paid off .. the contract was blackballed in the project was shut down.. I still have the pamphlet and all the architect's rendering.. the first building was two. Beautiful high-rise buildings on ocean avenue... The casino and the carousel would have been restored.. I could go on and on this community lost out big time.. this contractor has turned.. other communities around that .. I could go on and on but at the end of the day this community lost out by not. Insisting this project be completed.. this is my humble observation and opinion,.

What a pile of crap. If you look up list of most dangerous cities in New Jersey....Asbury Park is in the top five if not number one. P.S Asbury park was in it’s day a wonderful place.

    Asbury sucks now
    Nothing on the Boardwalk
    6 flags killed it

      Six Flags. Sure, Jan.
If a single amusement park in the pine barrens had the power to kill a thriving coastal resort, Belmar and Point Beach would have spent the last 40 years as ghost towns.
Municipal myopia - stretching back to the 19th century - is what killed it. And municipal myopia is what continues to keep it from moving forward.
AP Council: "Our unemployment has been hovering at 30 percent for much of the last century. We've got find a way to create new, sustainable jobs for the people who were born and raised here."
Asbury Partners/iStar: "Hi. We're new in town. Can we take the few parcels in your tiny community that are available for development and build condos and apartments on every one of them, thereby eliminating any chance for economic stimulus and job growth? Oh, and if it's not too much to ask, we'd also really like to leave that giant, sad-looking ruin at the south end of the boardwalk in it's sad-looking, ruinous state for an indeterminate amount of time that will probably last longer than your children's natural lives."
AP Council: "Anything you want! Just say the word!"
